To be longing for the next big thing after Gin

Sweet holy, I thought I was sick of Prosecco. But this current Gin craze ..... just going on tooo long.

I love a GnT - we sure can all agree that Fever Tree is a Good Thing - but please bring an end to this apparently bottomless naff drinking.

Please, sherry, Buck’s Fizz, anything, just get here quick.

A good Rum cocktail - dark and stormy - decent rum, ginger beer and lime.

Tattybear16 · 23/11/2018 19:28

Loads of good rum cocktails including, Pina colada, mojito, Daiquiri, mai tai and planters punch.

Fashion trends in alcoholic drinks is a ridiculous concept that I don't understand.

Since reaching adulthood, I have enjoyed a glass of champagne or of dry, pale rosé wine, while an amaretto sour has long been my cocktail of choice.

This just does not change for me because some type of booze has become trendy! I have always hated the taste of gin and considered the taste/texture of prosecco inferior to champagne. Their PR status does not change my views in the slightest. It's just odd.

StealthPolarBear · 23/11/2018 19:33

Yes I totally agree. I like some I don't like others. I suppose if you vaguely like them all then you might be tempted by a novelty gin or whatever.

Patroclus · 23/11/2018 19:34

White lightning with a splash of Iron-bru. Drank that for about 2 years as a whipper snapper.

claracluck78 · 23/11/2018 19:34

Another long term gin lover here. Honestly hate the new sweet liqueur style gins that cater for anyone but genuine navy strength gin drinkers.

I ache for the days when Bombay Sapphire and Tanquaray seemed posh - you knew where you were when the options were simple. I am NOT a fan of 50gins to try when 45 of the buggers are basically aimed at the Prosecco Princess Parade.

And I'm feeling old now!

StealthPolarBear · 23/11/2018 19:35

Lol patroclus

Honey Jack Daniels with ginger beer and lime is rather yummy.

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 23/11/2018 19:38

Thunderbird for me everytime 🍸

apintofharpandapacketofdates · 23/11/2018 19:41

Been drinking gin since waaay before it waa ever trendy.

I'm a bit of a purist, enjoying Hendricks and Tanqueray.

Only flavoured Gin I'll drink is Whitley Neils 'Blood Orange'

The rest are boggin. Gin doesn't work with berries or tropical fruit imo

LadyOfTheCanyon · 23/11/2018 19:45

Ahhhh Thunderbird.

Always the blue label one though. Never the red for some reason which is now lost in the mists of the eighties time

JillyArmeeen · 23/11/2018 19:51

Nobody has to drink gin but in my local it's gin beer or wines, no other spirits. A small wine is £5.
I did try a gin and tonic last week and quite enjoyed it..
Im a brandy drinker myself. Always with coke so just go with the cheapest..
Rum I'm not sure. Could be the next big thing. Don't think I'm too keen. Did have some lovely rum in Prague so would be open to trying some.

MamaLovesMango · 23/11/2018 20:02

Bombay and tonic, with ice and lime, in a cold, cold glass. That’s proper. It’d be classed as boring now.

I used to prefer prosecco over some champagnes but it’s been cheapened now.

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 23/11/2018 20:04

I'm not a big drinker but I've always loved rum, especially dark, spiced rum. Looking forward to lots of new types!

MuttleyLaugh · 23/11/2018 20:06

I like dark rum, and drink it on its own, as if it were brandy. White rum, no thank you, and we have quite a posh pale yellow one which is only drinkable as a mixer with orange juice.

shamalawa · 23/11/2018 21:53

I LOVE a rum. Oh dammit am I going to become coooool?

Also enjoy a GOOD tequila (don julio reposado) sipped yum yum

DoubleNegativePanda · 23/11/2018 23:08

I like gin fine, and rum is ok although it'll give you a mother of a hangover.

I do love whiskey the best though. At a works do a couple weeks ago everyone was ordering margaritas, or French 75s etc. I ordered an old-fashioned, and the nice French 75 girl sitting next to me asked if it was any good so I offered her a sip. I asked what she thought and she croaked "it's a bit strong, what's in it?" Pretty much just whiskey

BeachtheButler · 23/11/2018 23:51

Muttley I agree. Dark rum or nothing (Woods for preference).
