To be longing for the next big thing after Gin

Sweet holy, I thought I was sick of Prosecco. But this current Gin craze ..... just going on tooo long.

I love a GnT - we sure can all agree that Fever Tree is a Good Thing - but please bring an end to this apparently bottomless naff drinking.

Please, sherry, Buck’s Fizz, anything, just get here quick.

I’m a gin drinker and will be one long after the current craze. It’s not the proper gin that piss me off it’s all these sweet flavoured ones invented for people who don’t like gin but want to be part of the cool gin drinking crowd.

Davidlives · 23/11/2018 18:51

I don’t like vodka either stealth.
Just gin or wine for me please

AcrossthePond55 · 23/11/2018 18:52

Mmmmmm, Sailor Jerry spiced rum. Delicious. Beats Capt Morgan all to hell.

Where I live, we're in the midst of a mini-Port revival. Port bars popping up here and there. I'd forgotten how much I like a nice glass of really good port and a chunk of good quality dark chocolate.

But I like my tot of gin, too. Variety is the spice of life.

Sitranced · 23/11/2018 18:54

Rum. Went to a trendy rum bar in Brixton last weekend with about 100 different bottles behind the bar. I was in my absolute element, DH not so much.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 23/11/2018 18:54

If it's Gin it's Plymouth or Bombay Sapphire with full fat tonic and lime.

Simple and not frigging hipstery bollocks.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 23/11/2018 18:55

Decent Rum is Ron Zacapa.

BonnieF · 23/11/2018 18:56

I really, really hope whisky isn’t the next drink fad. I just couldn’t cope with the sacrilege of seeing some clueless cretin putting ice, tonic or (god forbid) coke into their glass of Talisker or Ardbeg...

ZeldaSpellman · 23/11/2018 18:57

I fucking hate gin. We have around 25 different ones at work, plus a thousand tonics and garnishes and giant fucking ice balls. It's all any one bloody orders and I hate making them. The gin craze is a pain in my arse.

Tonight I'll make over 100 G&Ts and none of them will be a gordon's and slimline.

I wonder how a rum craze will go.

BumDisease · 23/11/2018 18:58

Strange that gin comes in all these weird and wonderful flavours and they all somehow manage to taste like cat's piss...

Loopytiles · 23/11/2018 18:59

I still like prosecco. Dislike gin and almost never drink it.

Whiskey seems unlikely as it is very strong and, unlike vodka, rum or gin, is hard to make into long drinks.

Growingboys · 23/11/2018 19:01

I'm counting down til DC bedtime when I'm pouring myself an enormous gin.

But loathe Prosecco so know what you mean.

YesIDidNameChangeForThis · 23/11/2018 19:02

I hope the Gin craze never goes away..it's fab and very drinkable. Except for Ophir, which is rank. Alcoholic Tikka Masala. No thank you.

Loopytiles · 23/11/2018 19:02

With gin, some people will ooh and ah over specific ones, tonics, accoutrements, burnt orange bits or whatever. Irritating. And PITA for bar staff.

At least with prosecco you order or are offered a glass and that’s it!

HowlsMovingBungalow · 23/11/2018 19:04

YesIdid - I made the mistake of being taken in by the pretty bottle of Ophir - Fucking HELL! It's turmeric hell water. Disgustingly undrinkable.

Trills · 23/11/2018 19:05

You'll have to MAKE something be the next big thing

Do you know any "influencers" who might be persuaded to start drinking Frangelico?

(I like Ophir)

DontCallMeCharlotte · 23/11/2018 19:07

We had a sherry club back in the nineties - must be time for a revival. It's bloody lovely.

Spanglybangles · 23/11/2018 19:12

I do enjoy a G&T as well as some of the flavoured gins, have a batch of raspberry gin underway in my wardrobe. Hate rum and whisky. Am a vodka girl at heart and shall be starting a large kilner of pineapple vodka soon, in time for Christmas Grin

YesIDidNameChangeForThis · 23/11/2018 19:13

@HowIsMovingBungalow

It's the third circle of hell in a bottle. "Shudder".

Ohshitwhatnext · 23/11/2018 19:14

It's going to be Blue Nun.

Sallystyle · 23/11/2018 19:15

I am not fed up of gin. There are so many to try and enjoy.

Pink and violet gin is lovely. I can't stand prosecco though.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 23/11/2018 19:15

Big gin stand in Debenhams in oxford street today, flogging all the various flavours to the masses—-I used to love gin, the trendies have ruined it for me

MamaLovesMango · 23/11/2018 19:16

The gin craze has well and truly brasses me off too.

I’ve loved the stuff since my first drop at 14 18 and have become quite the connoisseur over the years. What the gin craze has brought to the gin loving people of the world is loads of crap flavoured gin that tastes like squash (specifically for those people that want to be ‘in’ but can’t handle the real stuff) and 100s upon 100s of identical tasteless gins in fancy bottles with hipster names.

I can’t wait for it to go away so I can have a good well made G&T without having to have a discussion about it.

YesIDidNameChangeForThis · 23/11/2018 19:17

@U2HasTheEdge

Get yourself a wee "aviator " cocktail next time you're out..Gin, lemon juice and Violet liquer, with a maraschino cherry. It's the dogs.

Delatron · 23/11/2018 19:18

What are we having rum with? I don’t like coke? Straight on the rocks? Any good rum cocktails?

BramRang · 23/11/2018 19:22

I came here to say rum. It's my partner's favourite drink and in the last year I've noticed loads of new varieties popping up to buy him (even pubs tend to have 2-3 varieties these days rather than just a captain Morgan's). I love a good Sailor Jerry's myself (or Jailor Serry's as I've been known to ask for...).

A fair few rums are good on their own, but coke is the obvious mixer
