It’s Christmas party time. I’ve got fat this year and look shit in everything.

What the hell am I supposed to wear that doesn’t look awful. I feel shit in everything.

Can the fashion gurus help? Everything lovely looks awful on me. Help.

I'm similar size and shape. I find these dresses really flattering especially with net petticoats underneath.

From Amazon less than £30 cotton/spandex mix, really comfy, black kitten heels. Always gets commented on. Feel really confident in it too

RedPandaMama · 23/11/2018 21:18

Have a look at fullerfigurefullerbust on Instagram, she wears everything from 16-22 and is a great example of being bigger but still having an hourglass figure and big boobs! I'm a 16-18 hourglass (huge thighs but J cup boobs so balance out) and love her for style inspiration!

Chocolatebourbons · 23/11/2018 21:19

Surprised the weight police haven't been on this thread yet.

OP have a look at Scarlett & Jo and as per pp's, Simply Be.

MrsTerryPratcett · 23/11/2018 21:25

Boobs are your friend. Find something that does good things for your cleavage and doesn't highlight your bump. Tight skirt, loose baggy top off one shoulder works for me.

Titsywoo · 23/11/2018 21:27

Pepperberry has some great dresses www.bravissimo.com/collections/dresses/

CrookedMe · 23/11/2018 21:31

I'm not mad keen on those 50s style dresses, I don't think they look very modern or young.

I think the pic posted by @Unicornandbows is great, and I want to know where it's from! Grin

Titsywoo · 23/11/2018 21:33

I actually think I'm going to buy that Jessie one - looks very flattering. I'm the same size as you OP but 4 inches shorter and still look pretty good - I tend to wear shapewear to pull in the tummy as it's a problem area for me too.

Mammylamb · 23/11/2018 21:33

Oh Yes. I know the feeling OP. I can’t offer advice (I’m actually thinking of not going to the work night out because of this). But I am reading this thread with interest

Titsywoo · 23/11/2018 21:42

I think the 50s style dresses are flattering but quite a niche look. If I turned up at a party in a dress like the one shown above with net petticoats my friends would ask if I thought it was fancy dress! I like the more simple tea dress style but it's not really a xmas party look.

glueandstick · 23/11/2018 21:52

So many ideas. Thank you.

I’m addressing my weight but that doesn’t help a party in 10 days. Really did spend a year eating my grief....

Not sure the 50’s style is me. I’m not overly confident and a bit ‘horsey’ so not sure I’d feel comfortable in it. Will order one to give it a go though!

Can't go wrong with black and sparkly. I have about five of them! Here's me in one of my favourites (have name-changed for this thread!) - I'm a size 20. The cardigan is silver cashmere, great for getting from taxi to venue etc.

Evans have quite a nice one in: https://m.evans.co.uk/en/evuk/product/clothing-7810902/dresses-6931372/black-and-gold-sparkle-wrap-dress-8057662?dual-run=evans.co.uk&geoip=noredirect&cmpid=ppcplaaUKip&utmmmedium=cpc&istCompanyId=b60a50db-e373-4ec2-aca8-9fa395e9832d&istItemId=-xtwppmrqpw&istBid=tztx&gclid=Cj0KCQiA597fBRCzARIsAHWby0Hqrv6NMNzVBgd0CzA4U5MCZ7u438rbFhCjrnC0Mmp4Q8mzVsBVbEYaAq6iEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

@glossier - you look amazing. I wish I looked half as good as that.

Can you arrange a hair cut/blow dry the day of the night out? I always feel much better once that’s done. I second FFFB, she’s the woman in the polka dot dress above.

glossier · 23/11/2018 22:16

@glueandstick You are lovely, but honestly I am a fat and lumpy frumpy mum most of the time - black is just very flattering! Here's another. One's from Evans and the other is Monsoon I think. My other top tip is M&S bodyshaper tights - they really smooth you out but are also very comfortable.

MrsTWH · 23/11/2018 22:23

Ok, I’m very similar - 5ft7 and a size 16/18 with a tummy (but sadly my boobs aren’t big enough to even it out!).

Look for something with a deep v-neck or wrap style that drapes over the tummy. Is it a dress you want or top/trousers/skirt?

ReflectionsofParadise · 23/11/2018 22:25

Simply Be have lovely stuff online OP.

Maelstrop · 23/11/2018 22:30

Emphasize legs and boobs, get a knee length swingy dress. Put on a necklace that drips into your cleavage. Bet you'll be amazing.

showgirl · 23/11/2018 22:31

I am a good size 16 and have just bought this for some christmas parties. It's from Little Mistress. It's very flattering.

glueandstick · 23/11/2018 22:31

I’m wondering if trousers and a top would be a better way to go.

Ordered a couple of black dresses. Hopefully I’ll find something before I have a whole mail van of stuff ordered!

Hellohah · 23/11/2018 22:41

@showgirl what is that dress called? I've just looked on the Little Mistress website and I can't see it. I love it

Mishappening · 23/11/2018 22:44

Larger women can look deliciously voluptuous - I see it all the time. The problem is not with your body, but with your mind. You think you look "shitty" - why not tell yourself you look gorgeous. I am sure you do.

And in any event, a size 18 on a 5'7'' lady is not fat!!
