Soup is the meal of the devil

That's if you even believe it to be a meal, i don't but apart from that the noisy slurping off the spoons, the swallowing sounds that seem to accompany only soup somehow, the drips falling back into the bowl, the sucking the noodles if they unfortunate enough to be a part of this hell hole. To make things worse its eaten by those that are ill so you have all those irritating sounds of sniffling etc. AAARGGHH!

I love soup! I'm making it today, lentil and vegetable. I've spent 2 years on a campaign to make the DC's eat soup and I've finally won, so we eat it a lot at the moment. One of them even asks for it now Grin.

SummerGems · 23/11/2018 07:52

I love soup. I don’t like lumps in it and I eat it with bread. But soup is my go-to when I’m having a health blip and can’t face anything else.

Calzone · 23/11/2018 07:55

I absolutely love all soups.

xJessica · 23/11/2018 07:58

Oh crap. This has just reminded me that I made a big pan of soup yesterday and put it into 2 bowls for the fridge. They wouldn't both fit in so I put one in the dining room waiting to make space after dinner when some of the food got used but there was a change of dinner plan and we didn't use the stuff that would make space and the bowl is still sitting on the table. Almost wondering if it would still be OK - it's absolutely freezing in there!!

Alltheprettyseahorses · 23/11/2018 08:21

You clearly haven't had my apple and cashew soup have you OP?

JellySlice · 23/11/2018 09:05

Roasted parsnip soup for supper tonight, with homemade bread.

Mmmmmmm Smile

ToEarlyForDecorations · 23/11/2018 09:09

Oh brilliant, another soup thread. Fab.

BerylStreep · 23/11/2018 09:09

Spiced cauliflower soup is the absolute best.

I've got a batch of mushroom and leak to get through first though.

Notreallyhere23 · 23/11/2018 09:16

I really wish I liked soup.

It’s such a convenient way to get veg and that into you but I just can’t fucking stand the thought of it.

I am ashamed of the money and food I must have wasted trying and failing to convince myself that the benefits are worth the grimness.

PanchoBarnes · 23/11/2018 09:20

@xJessica
If it's been only overnight, I'm sure it's just fine, especially if that room is cold/not heated.
Just as long as the soup doesn't smell off, I'd definitely eat it. I (deliberately) leave food out overnight in the cold kitchen, in winter.

What kind of soup? Grin

JellySlice · 23/11/2018 12:33

I'm thinking I might make cheesy dumplings instead of bread...

JellySlice · 23/11/2018 12:34

Oh, and Jessica, your soup is probably fine. I generally leave hot soups out overnight in a cool room rather than put still-warm food in the fridge.

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 23/11/2018 12:40

Soup isn't a meal, yet is horribly over-filling. It makes me feel sweaty from in the inside out.

GnomeDePlume · 23/11/2018 12:51

YANBU - soup is horrible stuff. Why does anyone look at a collection of vegetables (and maybe meat) and think 'what these need is boiling down until they are mush then pureeing' ?

'Chunky' soups are just as bad, tasteless lumps of over-boiled vegetable.

londonmummy1966 · 23/11/2018 18:20

Good thick homemade soup is the food of the gods - the thin stuff you get in the supermarket fridge is not - nor is the tinned stuff (except Heinz cream of tomato when you have a cold).

However, all the people posting about their homemade soups are being VVVU for not passing on their recipes.

TwiceMagic · 23/11/2018 18:22

DS2 is with you on soup, OP. He does not consider it appropriate for human consumption.

I find that inconvenient and annoying.

MrsTommyBanks · 23/11/2018 18:25

Love soup! I make it around 3 times a week here.

So...i can definitely say now that MN as a collective can be wrong and i can understand why some posters cant accept they are unreasonable when being told they are unanimously, because everyone who replied except 1 or 2 are definitely the ones who are BU

Home made soups are delicious winter comfort food. I make them thick enough to almost stand the spoon up in them. A big jug in the fridge lasts several days, for very convenient lunches, along with some nice crusty bread and a hunk of cheese.
My favourites are:
Beetroot, dill leaf and pickled cucumber soup served with chopped hard boiled egg on top
Courgette and potato with cumin, turmeric, onion and garlic
Chinese leaf and petit pois with fresh mint leaves
Butternut squash with chilli, ginger and coconut
Lentil with sumac, carrot, onion and celery
But you can razz up almost any cooked veg and spice combination in the blender and produce a delicious easy lunch, that’s relatively low calorie but high in fibre and nutrients.

You’re missing out, OP!

SingingSands · 23/11/2018 18:38

"You sound like a dinosaur crossing a swamp"

Little phrase my dearly departed grandpa used to say to my brother when watching him eat soup.

SillyPsychicAcid · 23/11/2018 18:39

Not a big fan of soup. It’s just a bit meh. But I don’t object to others eating it in my presence, so YAB a bit U

bellabasset · 23/11/2018 18:41

My favourite soup us made from turkey carcass, I chop and freeze any left over ham or chicken. I make stock, add veg, cook, take some veg out, blitz the rest, add meat, dumplings, love cardamom and mild curry added.

Serve with ciabatta rubbed with olive oil and garlic, chunks of bread. Versatile and filling.

MrsHandles · 23/11/2018 18:41

OP, are you me? I could have written this exact post. I fricken loathe soup: it’s food of poorly people and tastes of ill. No one should be subjected to food you drink, it’s just not normal!
