Today I saw this

Vaginal bleaching is the latest ‘trend’ aimed at making women feel insecure

I despair. I really do.

OP posts:
Steamedbadger · 22/11/2018 10:46

I see that Huda Beauty has now removed the pages about 'vaginal' (as they put it) bleaching, but still has this piece on how to lighten your underarms. WTAF?

Helperout · 22/11/2018 11:34

It was a super article, really showed the procedure for the dangerous ridiculous thing that it is. Very well written.

halfwitpicker · 22/11/2018 12:31

Yes, bring back the bush please. Fed-up of all this nekked shit

Storm4star · 22/11/2018 14:07

The bush never went away for me Grin

FishCanFly · 22/11/2018 14:28

I actually read about penis bleaching quite a while ago. WHY would anyone do that is beyond me

businessEthics · 22/11/2018 14:37

Of course there are aesthetic pressures on men.

It's sad that some women will never simply accept that some women may simply want to change their appearance and need to find ways to compare the sexes or blame society. Toxic femininity has little to do with it.

I have had minor cosmetic surgery because I wanted it.

itsbritneybiatches · 22/11/2018 14:39

I was talking to my sister about this earlier and she is a lesbian.

She said she knows of no women at all who would want a partner to do this or consider doing it themselves.

This seems to be a thing to please men.

businessEthics · 22/11/2018 14:44

"This seems to be a thing to please men."

Because you asked your gay sister?

I suspect that if you asked 100 men about their opinions on fanny bleaching, most would look horrified / confused.

Sorry, I meant to say, 'grrrr. bluddy men and the patriarchy etc'

WeeMadArthur · 22/11/2018 14:49

Well it’s not called bumping uglies for nothing! I agree with a previous poster who said it’s an attempt to get us to look like plastic dolls. I’m so glad I’m an old gimmer who isn’t likely to ever need to venture onto the dating scene again, it is so depressing for normal women to be compared, essentially, to porn stars and sex dolls.

In fact I’ve just seen an advert for a series called Unreported World on Channel 4. The reporter says “This is a society where a woman’s power is to be beautiful, and to be beautiful you have to be fat.” So essentially the only power she has is her looks and society is telling her exactly what is acceptable, unluckily for her it’s quite an extreme version of beauty which could have a great impact on her health. It’s chilling really, how there is so much pressure from society for women to meet beauty standards, whether it be a brazilian bum lift, lip fillers, fake boobs, bleached vaginas, being too thin or too fat ( anything other than your natural body type really)

itsbritneybiatches · 22/11/2018 14:57

Well my gay sister has seen more fanny than I have

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 22/11/2018 16:07

Well my gay sister has seen more fanny than I have

So from that you have somehow drawn the conclusion that it is men who are pushing for women to have this rather odd procedure?

Seriously, how did you arrive at this conclusion?

I have yet to meet a man who insisted that he preferred women who bleached/poached/steamed/ their bits.

I imagine the only time most men hear of this type of thing is when their partners laugh and point it out in some glossy magazine or it makes it way into the mainstream media as the 'lets all laugh at the latest batshit crazy treatment' story.

Storm4star · 22/11/2018 16:19

My question is though, how can any woman say that they have their vagina or anus bleached for "themselves"? I funnily enough don't spend all that much time looking at my vagina or anus! Nor are my bits out on public display! How can something like this possibly be to a woman's benefit?

Rachelover40 · 22/11/2018 16:45

Ouch! They don't have their vaginas bleached, it's just the hair around it surely? Just the idea of putting bleach inside my vulva makes me wince. Please tell me it is just the hairy bits that they are bleaching - and that's bad enough.

I understand not wanting stray hairs around there but there are limits.

doorhandledog · 22/11/2018 16:51

My new mantra is 'Fuck you, I don't have to do what you tell me to.'

It's amazing how many opportunities I have to use it.

Rachelover40 · 22/11/2018 17:15

I don't think anyone will tell you have to bleach your hairy bits. I suppose if you were a bottle blonde you might try it so your collar and cuffs match.

ForalltheSaints · 22/11/2018 17:22

Fanjo is a word I only ever read on MN. The OP is right to despair in my opinion.

Bananalanacake · 22/11/2018 18:52

Domestos or Sainsbury's own brand thick bleach for 50p? Which I recently had to smuggle from the UK to Germany. Where they only sell Donklorix bleach and I suspect it's as thin as water, though I only use it to clean the shower.

Rachelover40 · 22/11/2018 19:16

I'd never heard 'fanjo' before either. Quite like it though.

masterandmargarita · 22/11/2018 19:23

Oh come on, of course the pressure comes from what women believe that men want, and that's fannies that don't look like they belong to fully grown women Hmm

fakeplasticbush · 22/11/2018 19:28

This thread immediately brought to mind this article from yesterday's daily mash that made me giggle. https://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/lifestyle/woman-who-wont-put-fast-food-in-her-mouth-will-put-bleach-on-her-bumhole-20181120179563

LakieLady · 22/11/2018 19:36

I just told DP that penis bleaching is now a thing. He wants to know if they can make it so white that it glows in the dark, because it would be amusing.

Birdsgottafly · 22/11/2018 20:42

Rachelover40, when you remove the hair, as you get older your skin darkens. It's the skin around your vulva, you'd bleach.

This started off as a thing for Women of Colour to do. Many reacted with horror because of the racist connotations.

So they've moved on to targeting every Woman.

starzig · 22/11/2018 20:44

Nobody needs make up but it is as common as anything so who is anyone else to judge.

LadyDeadpool · 22/11/2018 20:48

Azelia Banks sells a pussy pop soap which is designed to lighten your labia et al it was only brought in however off the back of "Bussy Boy" soap which is designed to lighten your asshole for gay men.

Shampaincharly · 23/11/2018 11:36

This happened with my pasta the other day . Is this the result you want?
