To serve Aunt Bessie’s Roast Potatoes with dinner instead of doing real ones?

Give it to me straight; AIBU? It’s slow roast shoulder of pork with nice veg and I even might make Yorkshire Puddings (real ones, from scratch), so it’s not as if I’m doing FA. I’ve had the Aunt Bessie’s in the freezer for a few months and am unsure as to whether they’ll be nice.
I’ve been a lazy fucker today, on my last day off work (I do six on, four off for reference, so you have all the facts to judge me properly), I’ve done the school run this morning and nipped to the shop, then I washed some rugs and fucked off for an afternoon nap, but I still can’t be properly arsed to cook.
Am I an unreasonable, lazy bastard?

I make nice roast pototatoes but for convenience of bunging in frozen is fine.

morningconstitutional2017 · 21/11/2018 17:27

You are neither unreasonable, lazy or a bastard. Aunt Bessie's are perfectly acceptable so go for it.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 21/11/2018 17:32

I like M&S fresh roasting potatoes - but I add extra butter to them!

MrsJayy · 21/11/2018 17:34

My mum got the M&S ones last christmas they were lovely

MotorcycleMayhem · 21/11/2018 17:39

Meh, tonight's dinner is a 'roast', and everything is being cooked straight from the freezer including the meat, veg and yorkie puds.

I murder Yorkshire puddings and am banned from making them from scratch.

biscuittime · 21/11/2018 17:42

Yes yes use them!
I don’t particularly like roast dinners but my kids love them, and it’s so easy for my OH to do a roast chicken with frozen roast potatoes and fresh veg as an easy mid week dinner after work which they all devour.

MrsCatE · 21/11/2018 17:43

I've never tried but YANBU. You've had them for a while and you need to try them sometime. Title today as new recipe day Wink

On a tangent, ex-MIL would always claim she made her Yorshires - she didn't even make a cursory attempt to hide the Aunt Bessie packaging in the bin!

SilentIsla · 21/11/2018 17:46

They don’t resemble the real thing. Can’t believe people buy them.

JellySlice · 21/11/2018 18:08

Sorry, Aunt Bessie' roared potatoes are rank. I tried them on e, and never again. They really are not worth the time-saving.

JellySlice · 21/11/2018 18:09

The Yorkshire puds OTOH aren't bad.

BehemothPullsThePeasantsPlough · 21/11/2018 18:42

Another person objecting to “dry, floury” interiors Confused. I spend a good deal of time and effort parboiling potatoes specifically in order to obtain dry floury interiors. It’s like objecting to spinach for being too green.

Jimjamjooney · 21/11/2018 18:47

Aunt Bessie’s rosaries are amazing, we always use them Blush

Madein1995 · 21/11/2018 18:51

Frozen roasties are awful. Nothing like the real thing, I would rather not have any than have frozen ones. Just yuck. You're better off doinf proper roasties and using frozen yorkies

MsNowtyBach · 21/11/2018 18:53

This is fine mid week, but not on the weekend.

I made this rule up myself just now.

shakethatass · 21/11/2018 18:55

Yanbu
My kids got frozen pizza and chicken nuggets 🤦‍♀️

In my defence I'm not feeling well, and they normally get a good home cooked meal

BehemothPullsThePeasantsPlough · 21/11/2018 18:56

That is indeed The Law MsNowtyBach. You have stumbled upon it spontaneously because it is so obviously correct.

HauntedPencil · 21/11/2018 18:57

Don't get me wrong if there is a short cut I'm there but I just don't like these. Which is a shame.

Titsywoo · 21/11/2018 18:58

They are horrible! Not crunchy at all on the outside. I like the McCain ones personally.

toomanycuddlytoys · 21/11/2018 19:03

If you want to use them , then go ahead

Satsumaeater · 21/11/2018 19:11

They are pretty good, so why not? Ok so they come in a plastic bag. But so do most potatoes. I do make my own roasties but my MIL used to use Aunt Bessies and they were fine.

The Yorkshire puds are great, too.

LoisEinhorn · 21/11/2018 19:17

They taste nicer if you cook them in a bit of oil. I find them a bit dry if not

MyDcAreMarvel · 21/11/2018 19:20

I love Aunt Bessie’s definitely use them.

untoldstories · 21/11/2018 19:20

I recently tried frozen Yorkshires because after years of making them I'd had enough, they were wonderful, I will never ever make another from scratch again.
Now I'm going to try frozen roast pots because I'm fed up of fannying about peeling and roasting them too.
Life is too short.

HotSauceCommittee · 21/11/2018 19:28

They were fine! Everyone ate and liked them. They are different to “real” roasties, but not bad at all.

countrygirl99 · 21/11/2018 19:59

I hate "real" roasties, horrible greasy things, whoever cooks them. Far prefer Aunt Bessies.
