Second hand xmas present

Hi, my DS2 is obsessed with garbage trucks and bins. He already has 5 trucks and really enjoys playing with them. I've just bought a Bruder type truck on eBay for £15 second hand as part of his xmas presents. They sell for £50 in the shops with £15 delivery as they are from Germany.

I discussed this today with my sister who said she is disgusted that I've bought second hand for xmas. AIBU or is she? The way I see it, is that's he's only 2 and won't know any difference but after our conversation I'm now doubting myself.

YANBU. I’ve bought lots of things second hand for Christmas over the years for my DC. Sometimes they’re new in packaging so not really second hand at all. I’m an eBay addict so anything I can get cheaper, I will. I just bought a beautiful vintage dolls house for my DD’s for Christmas in fact on eBay, £15!! I’m chuffed with it.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with second hand, it’s better for the planet too.

I don't see the problem with second hand toys as long as they are in good condition and won't fall apart or anything. Let's face it an hour with a rambunctious 2 year old and it'll certainly have it's fair share of 'wear and tear'. Buying brand new isn't practical for small kids

hennaoj I have a huge 20 years old set of wooden tracks taking up space in the loft. For potential grandchildren.

I love buying second hand toys! We’ve got an amazing charity shop just down the road. They almost always have Orchard Toys games and jigsaws in for 99p, some of which we’ve got home to find still sealed. I’ve got DS one of the big hardback Lego ideas books from there for Christmas. It looks brand new and cost me 30p. He’s also got three still sealed science-y sets and a bingo game (with the £19.99 price still on it). £8 for the lot!
When he’s finished with things we donate them back. It saves a fortune and he gets so much more than he would if we bought everything brand new.

Nothing wrong with buying second hand at all. I think there's a certain amount of pressure on some people to feel they have to buy new. Then they kick themselves later for it.

You are doing the right thing! Tell your sister she is out of touch - second hand is the way to go for lots of different reasons!!!!

My 12 year old dd has always had lots of second hand stuff.
