To think that matched betting is not an easy way to make a bit of extra cash?

Not here to criticise those who do it, and I’m aware that moneysavingexpert and the like recommend it as a way to earn a bit of extra cash.

However, having looked through the process, it is clearly both incredibly complicated and involves a huge amount of work for ultimately a bit of return. Much like the surveys etc of old which were often suggested as a way to earn extra money.

I’ve done normal betting, spread betting etc, and matched betting is far far more complicated than either of those.

So although people clearly do make a bit of extra cash doing it, it also seems clear to me that they must spend hours and hours doing it in order for the small returns they make every month.

And obviously if it was that lucrative then everyone would be doing it and they’re not.

And yes, I count myself in among those as am desperate to make some extra income and due to health problems this isn’t currently possible..

Youre wrong
Its easy

greendale17 · 21/11/2018 11:12

I agree. I never made much money and yes I did do it correctly

strumpetblowingatrumpet · 21/11/2018 11:15

My dh does it to make a bit of extra money whilst I'm on mat leave. I couldn't do it, it's too complicated for me, but he's making a fair bit of cash on it. I think the setting up of it all takes a fair bit of time, but once it's up and running becomes a bit less time intensive.

SummerGems · 21/11/2018 11:16

@greendale17

I imagine it’s much like many potential money making opportunities where a few people make decent money at it and the rest just don’t have the time and make pennies.

Probably not dissimilar to mlm but with the added benefit that it doesn’t involve you having to alienate your friends into the bargain. Wink Grin

I imagine the attraction is that it’s relatively risk free so if you don’t make money you walk away and don’t have to say that it cost more than it earned iyswim.

But also ...
Do We want to feed this industry?
I don't want to see these bookies In every town. So I try not not to put my money In their direction. I think its a big unethical. For every matcher betting whizz , i'd hazard A guess there are a handful of people that sign up, realise it's all a bit hard, have a flutter in the casino instead, etc. not to mention people that incorrectly calculate odds, bet on wrong games etc.

Hushnownobodycares · 21/11/2018 11:35

It's a way for a rapacious and amoral industry to showcase their more lucrative offerings.

A proportion of those signing up will get sidetracked into the casinos and slots and a proportion of those will go on not just to spend more than they can afford and get into debt but lose peace of mind and dignity too. No-one knows if they have a propensity to become one of those sad stats until it's too late.

Hellohah · 21/11/2018 11:40

I started last week, I have never done it before and had no idea what I was doing, spent 20 minutes reading about it.

It's not so difficult. I started with £10, I am £23 up currently and it's taken me about 15 minutes in total. I know it's not a massive profit but it's £23 for 15 minutes. (Works out at £92/hour)

vandrew4 · 21/11/2018 11:44

you are very wrong. I've made close on £90K in the last 2.5 years.
It's very easy but does take a bit of time.
However, the fewer people that do it the better for the likes of me; so yeah, it's shite people

ErickBroch · 21/11/2018 11:45

Family member lives off of it - and quite reasonably! Way too complicated for me to bother with though.

belleandsnowwhite · 21/11/2018 11:46

It actually really is easy! I have made quite a lot this year from it. However you do need funds to be able to do it, so can be quite slow at start if you are only starting with £10

vandrew4 · 21/11/2018 11:48

Do We want to feed this industry
match betters rip off the bookies. They take money off them. personally I take great pleasure in profiting off the bastards

persephoneplant · 21/11/2018 11:58

vandrew4, ErickBroch, are you or your relatives able to make that sort of money without multiaccounting? Pretty much everybody I read about on other boards who does it long term seems to do that. If you have the sort of relatives who wouldn't dream of having anyone else use their personal details I get the impression it's not sustainable.

PetiteMamaNoel · 21/11/2018 12:03

I haven't done matched betting in 2 years. Made 1k in a few months.

Are there still good offers on? I have lots of old accounts and mostly made money with the sign up bonuses.

vandrew4 · 21/11/2018 12:03

persehone some multiaccounting, some just me . Moving onto casino has seen my profits really increase

PetiteMamaNoel · 21/11/2018 12:04

I've made close on £90K in the last 2.5 years

That's a deposit on a house or money for a good long term investment. Lucky!☘

PetiteMamaNoel · 21/11/2018 12:06

Do all you matched betters use moneysaving expert or one of those matched betting sites where you pay a monthly fee to access the offers?

SummerGems · 21/11/2018 12:08

I've made close on £90K in the last 2.5 years and how much did you (honestly) have to invest for that return.

Because what they will tell you is that the investment is minimal apart from your first steak (clearly not true as others have already stated on here that a lot of investment is initially required,) that it’s risk-free (again, clearly not true as one poster has already stated that her profits have increased when she moved on to casinos which are most certainly not risk-free,)

So all in all it’s the same old adage that if something sounds too good to be true it generally is.

OP posts:
Imoverthinkingit · 21/11/2018 12:10

I use a site where I pay a fee. I’ve nearly made £25k in 3 years alongside working. It has enabled me to work part time on a low wage doing what I love, and we are now debt free. There’s a bit of work involved but for the time I put in it’s well worth it.

Worth noting that the offers used to be far more lucrative than they are now so it will seem more difficult but I am making more this year than I have in previous years do still lots to be made.

Elllicam · 21/11/2018 12:11

I made a couple of grand in a few months but it was a massive amount of effort. I never got how people made money after they got past the sign in bonuses either.

vandrew4 · 21/11/2018 12:12

summer have you ever done MB'ing/ I'm guessing not as you seem to know nothing about it.
You can start with a "bank" of a tenner. Personally I started with £50.
your bank builds as your profit increases. Sports betting IS risk free but hey ho, what do I know eh?

Imoverthinkingit · 21/11/2018 12:14

Just to add, I started with £70. The more you start with the more offers you can do initially but I would recommend to start slow, one offer at a time as it is complicated at first.

vandrew4 · 21/11/2018 12:14

you really don't need to invest anything more than your first bet's worth.
it's not like buying shares etc.

vandrew4 · 21/11/2018 12:20

Because what they will tell you is that the investment is minimal apart from your first steak (clearly not true as others have already stated on here that a lot of investment is initially required
can't see anyone who said that?

southnownorth · 21/11/2018 12:25

YABU.

It has been my main source of income since 2015.

Takes a lot more time and effort now admittedly. A lot of my profits come from casino offers.
