To think that matched betting is not an easy way to make a bit of extra cash?

Not here to criticise those who do it, and I’m aware that moneysavingexpert and the like recommend it as a way to earn a bit of extra cash.

However, having looked through the process, it is clearly both incredibly complicated and involves a huge amount of work for ultimately a bit of return. Much like the surveys etc of old which were often suggested as a way to earn extra money.

I’ve done normal betting, spread betting etc, and matched betting is far far more complicated than either of those.

So although people clearly do make a bit of extra cash doing it, it also seems clear to me that they must spend hours and hours doing it in order for the small returns they make every month.

And obviously if it was that lucrative then everyone would be doing it and they’re not.

And yes, I count myself in among those as am desperate to make some extra income and due to health problems this isn’t currently possible..

profit accumulator.

Newmum102 · 21/11/2018 13:14

I started MB a little over a week ago and have come out with £115 in an hour or twos work. It’s incredible easy once you get your head round it. I just wish I had more time to spend.

Newtothis2017 · 21/11/2018 13:16

What is matched betting?

glenthebattleostrich · 21/11/2018 13:21

Can anyone link to an idiot's guide? Or recommend a site to learn the ropes?

thenightsky · 21/11/2018 13:27

there you go ostrich

PiperPublickOccurrences · 21/11/2018 13:27

It's not something I'm really interested in doing, but I get the concept.

For example you bet £10 on certain odds that Manchester United will beat Liverpool.

Then you find another company offering a similar bet in the opposite direction - that Liverpool will beat Manchester Utd.

Using the free offers and "invest £10 and get £50 to spend" offers that the bookies use, you make money. If you know what you're doing, the logic is undeniable.

It's not like MLM in the slightest.

glenthebattleostrich · 21/11/2018 13:44

Thanks sky! Going to give this a go on Friday when I'm off work I think.

belleandsnowwhite · 21/11/2018 13:57

Not quite, you bet would be on the exchange market that Manchester Utd does not win. A football match as 3 outcomes. If you bet on Liverpool winning you could lose money if the match is a draw.

festivedramallama · 21/11/2018 14:02

There’s a long running thread in Money - current thread is here

And a video that explains it here

Snappedandfarted1 · 21/11/2018 15:54

I’ve been doing this for 18 months with an initial investment of £300 and I’m now sitting on over £20k profit. It’s paid for holidays, a new car, and covered Christmas and birthdays in that time.

But yeah, it’s rubbish and a total scam Grin

AndThereSaw · 21/11/2018 16:06

It depends on the definition of 'easy' doesn't it?
Matched betting gives a guaranteed profit IF you do the research and do it properly.
You don't need to may tax on it
You don't need to leave the house
You don't need to pay transport/commuter costs/childcare.
You don't need special insurance or equipment.
I think in comparison to pretty much any other way of boosting your income it is easy.
Not entirely effortless though.

titchy · 21/11/2018 16:14

I'm funding my kids through uni on the back of it Grin

But yeah, it's shit and I'm losing money hand over fist...

(I do agree about the addictiveness of it though and caution anyone doing it who has a tendency to want to gamble.)

frenchknitting · 21/11/2018 16:41

There is an easy grand just waiting to be lifted. After that, you do need to invest a bit more time and money. But it's neither complicated nor risky.

BehemothPullsThePeasantsPlough · 21/11/2018 16:57

The comparison with MLM is unfair. MLMs leave a trail of people behind them who’ve done precisely everything they were told and still lost a bunch of money. The thing about MB is that if you do everything absolutely correctly then you are guaranteed a profit (unless the bookie defaults). The problem lies in having the competence and temperament to do it all perfectly

SushiMonster · 21/11/2018 16:58

match betters rip off the bookies. They take money off them. personally I take great pleasure in profiting off the bastards

Thing i, you are NOT ripping of the bookies. You are merely taking money from the poor addicted people, via the bookies. Need to be comfortable with this. You aren't enacting a great Robin Hood play here.

SushiMonster · 21/11/2018 17:01

Matched betting is super easy, although there are some right idiots on the Team Profit FB page who clearly don't 'get' it.

Like a PP said the sign up offers are easy to make loads of tax free money without leaving the house. After that I reckon the time/effort>£ pay off probably isn't there for me. But the sign up offers and a few bet clubs are totally worth it.

Aftereights91 · 21/11/2018 17:06

I'm really interested in matched betting as I desperately need cash to clear some debts. The people who've done it is it definitely risk free? I have £20 spare but can't afford to piss it away.

Ilovealexa · 21/11/2018 17:18

vandrew4

Hope you don’t mind me asking you something. I did this a few years ago and did quite well, used all the obvious offers but didn’t really know where to go once I’d used all the first customer offers. Could you possibly advise what the next step would be?

Thanks

Hezz · 21/11/2018 17:53

DH makes loads every week doing it

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 21/11/2018 17:57

I’ve tried it, and apart from the initial sign up offers I’ve not made anything. I’ve been doing it since April.

It’s wrong to think absolutely anyone can make money from it, it’s not idiot proof.

I enjoy it, but I’m treading water.

PeevedOfPortishead · 21/11/2018 18:09

Don't do it. Total scam and you don't even get to keep any Tupperware.

I make 2k a month doing it but that's mostly gambling, risk-taking and my timeless vie sales.

Frouby · 21/11/2018 18:20

Yeah its a complete con. I definitely didnt make any money whatsoever. Nowhere near 10k since Feb doing sign ups and casino offers on a very part time basis.

Stick to tupperware and candle parties.

Snappedandfarted1 · 21/11/2018 18:24

Anyone that’s not profiting from it or that’s losing money is clearly doing it wrong. Matched betting is completely risk free WHEN DONE CORRECTLY

Getoffthetableplease · 21/11/2018 18:32

Eeek finally just done my first couple of secret in case I have somehow made a twat of myself and done it wrongbets. Thanks OP, for reminding me to give this a shot Grin
