To be 60 and want a breast reduction?

NC for thread. Just that really. Hated the massive norks all my life. Now I am financially in a position to have them reduced and am wondering is it too late? Will it make a difference to my life? FWIW I am quite sporty, within the bounds of the massive norks. Blush

Your money, your boobs. I'd be doing the same if I wasn't so indecisive!

hellozzz · 21/11/2018 10:58

Go for it. 60 is not old it is just beginning!

HappySeven · 21/11/2018 11:25

Why would it be too late? I think if they're that big it could revolutionise your life. Two friends had it done (a bit younger but I can't see the difference) and resolved all sorts of issues including back pain and buying clothes easily.

Hermione35 · 21/11/2018 11:28

Go for it!! Best thing I ever did at 29, wish I'd gone even smaller...!

CMOTDibbler · 21/11/2018 11:35

A friend, aged 50, just had this done on Friday. She's hated her norks all her life, and decided enough was enough as her back and neck pain was getting worse and worse.

Its been more painful than she thought, but is looking forward to life as a c cup not J

Roastbeefandallthetrimmings · 21/11/2018 11:52

I certainly don't feel old, until I look in the mirror anyway.... I would just love to wear a T-shirt without feeling that it look like it's containing barrage balloons. I want the freedom to go to the wardrobe and put on a nice shirt, without a flowing cardigan on top or to go to the gym without the norks making a break for it over the top of my sports bra... try running again - without the jacket Confused
I just get the feeling I may have missed the boat.

Just texted, and she says they took off 4lbs of tissue, and her back feels better already.

Go for it - why would you have missed the boat?

Roastbeefandallthetrimmings · 21/11/2018 11:56

Hermoine (my favourite name) what is the best bit about it for you?

This sounds mad, but sometimes I rest my boobs on the worktop & imagine what it feels like to not have that dragging down weight.

Dibbler please send your friend my best wishes for a speedy recovery! Hope she is delighted with her results!

I have grooves in my shoulders Sad

Definitely do it but ask your GP for a private referral to an NHS consultant. You’ll be so much more comfortable and perky and no longer top heavy so you’ll be able to wear a dress in a size that fits all over. 60 is definitely not too old, not at all. Do it.

Sparklesocks · 21/11/2018 12:07

I’m a big believer in doing things that will benefit your life whatever your age.
If you were struggling financially i would say differently but it’s your body, your money - go for it! breasts get lower as we age which is difficult when they’re already big - seems like a wise investment in your comfort.

Eddie16 · 21/11/2018 12:10

Hi there,I used to work as a bra fitter in a well known department store and I once fitted a lady who had a breast reduction when when was 65. Her new boobs looked amazing when she came in 8 weeks after surgery, they had healed well and the scars hardly showed. If I had the money,I would do it in a heartbeat so go for it and enjoy life with little boobies that fit in everything. Good luck!

nowahousewife · 21/11/2018 12:12

Had mine done 2 years ago aged 50, best thing I’ve ever done for myself! Great surgeon, painless recovery and he took just over 1kg from each boob so instant weight loss, what’s not to love.
Seriously though, it has been nothing but life enhancing, I can wear dresses (before I was two sizes larger on top so dresses impossible), shopping for clothes is a breeze, exercising is much easier etc.
PM me if you have any questions.

OrcinusOrca · 21/11/2018 12:15

Oh goodness I would definitely get them done if I had the money and was 60! I expect it will have a considerable impact if you've got grooves and are sporty.

littlepeas · 21/11/2018 12:18

I had mine done last year. Don’t delay - get it done! It has made a huge difference. I also wish I’d gone even smaller!! 60 really isn’t that old - you could easily have 30/40 years with neat little boobs! Why keep them if you don’t like them?

MatildaTheCat · 21/11/2018 12:19

Find an excellent surgeon and discuss the risks and benefits. Don’t go to any outfit that consults you with a nurse or representative.

You’ve wanted this a long time? Go for it and buy the best care you can afford.

(I think I read somewhere there is a limit to how much they can reduce- worth checking if you will still be left larger than you want.)

nowahousewife · 21/11/2018 12:24

Matilda makes a good point re size. They can only take so much away before certain risks kick in so it is highly unlikely you will go able to go from a HH cup to a B cup.

I saw 2 highly recommended surgeons both of whom I met with twice before making my decision. Neither of them had me see a nurse or advisor. In fact when I told the surgeon I didn’t go with who I was going with he said I would have nothing to worry about as my chosen surgeon was excellent.

I did have a couple of consultations about 4 years ago, but I couldn't quite afford it then. Now I can, but then I thought I'm a bit older now, maybe it's a bit daft.

Previous HS consultant said my shoulders & chest is wide (as in athletic), so won't have teeny weeny ones, so I thought about a pair of Jennifer Anniston's? But a bit smaller? So you don't think a 60 year old with the sainted JA boobs would be a bit boak? Not that I intend to flash them in the High Street?

Housewife 1kg each boob? That is fantastic and kind of the territory I am in.
I'm so pleased you are pleased!

TBH I've let myself go a bit recently, I think mainly as I'm always trying to hide (no photos here please) so thought what does it matter. Maybe time to stop the self pity, get back into healthy eating and aim for next spring? Have the Jennys ready for summer?

God yes get the girls reduced.

naicepineapple · 21/11/2018 12:49

I'm 31 and I want one but I'm not yet finished my family so want to make sure I'm done with babies and breastfeeding before I do it.
Mine are 32GG, I'd love them to be a couple of sizes smaller.
Thinking of getting laser eye surgery too eek!

naicepineapple · 21/11/2018 12:49

So my point is that 60 is a great age to do it and not too late at all

nowahousewife · 21/11/2018 12:54

Yep, 1kg off each. I’m definitely don’t have teeny tiny little boobs as the original we’re pretty large but the difference has been wonderful! The other thing that’s great is that feeling at night when you take off you bra and your boobs just droop and feel incredibly heavy, almost painfully so...we’ll no more! In fact I can happily go braless but choose not to.

Excuse the random apostrophe’s above!
