My ds is on antibiotics i took him to nursery after 4 days and completed a form for them to continue the medicine until the course is done . They havent given him his dose today !! My husband pick him up so i didnt speak with the lady there but she said that he was asleep and when he woke up it was tea time so they thought is too late ?? He only started a week ago and this just rings alarm bells for me ! Am i being too harsh ?

I am thinking of talking to the manager tomorrow would that be too much?

Did you say a specific time? If u did and he was asleep then I'd say your ott.

anxiousmotherof1 · 20/11/2018 19:57

It was at 3 their log says he wokr up at 14:20 . Even if he was asleep they should have given it to him when he woke up ! Am i being unresoable to expect them to give the medication ??

Massively OTT! Nurseries can't do right for doing wrong.
Just carry on the course until done. One missed dose is ok. I've done it with my own kids when they've been asleep.

Strongmummy · 20/11/2018 19:58

I wouldn’t change nursery , but I’d leave clearer instructions with the manager on when to administer the medicine and then follow up.

anxiousmotherof1 · 20/11/2018 19:58

Really ?? I would thing if they cannot get medications right what happend with other staff

vandrew4 · 20/11/2018 20:00

massive over reaction

LordPickle · 20/11/2018 20:00

Where do you live that you can just change nurseries so quickly?

Sunhill4 · 20/11/2018 20:02

Definitely speak to the manager tomorrow. It's not good enough and i don't think you are being OTT expecting your child to receive prescribed medication. I know it's not the end of the world but it is a little lacklustre.

Strongmummy · 20/11/2018 20:04

We’re telling you we think you’re being OTT and you’re disagreeing. You know the answer you want.

Pinky333777 · 20/11/2018 20:04

The nursery should perhaps have contacted you to ask what to do, but I don't think it's a valid enough reason to leave.
Have a chat with the manager about your feelings.
Some childcare settings, schools especially won't even administer medication, parents need to come in to give it themselves.
Things aren't so bad x

anxiousmotherof1 · 20/11/2018 20:05

I really didnt thibk i was ott ! Its not the fact that missed a dose is the fact that the nursery are so relax about it . It just makes me thing they are not taking these things seriously

OP posts:
anxiousmotherof1 · 20/11/2018 20:06

@Strongmummy this is my first child i have no experience of nurseries this is why am asking here . With so high fees i was expecting more

Sirzy · 20/11/2018 20:07

Your lucky they agreed to give them. Many nurseries (and schools) won’t

Strongmummy · 20/11/2018 20:08

They’re relaxed about it because they deal with ill kids alot and missing one dose of antibiotic isn’t serious perhaps? If it were my son’s old nursery I would not be too concerned , but would speak to the manager. However, I was happy with my son’s nursery. It sounds as though you don’t like the nursery or (like your name suggests) you’re being anxious

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 20/11/2018 20:10

I wouldn't be impressed but I certainly wouldn't uproot my child if he were settled and happy - that wouldn't be in his best interests would it? I think you would be justified to put a complaint in, absolutely, and state that you want him woken regardless for medication.
As an aside, antibiotics are best as spread out as possible over 24 hours so you probably could have adjusted the timings and he wouldn't have missed one.

Jent13c · 20/11/2018 20:12

I understand that it was probably the end of the course of antibiotics but they cannot just decide not to give it. That is crazy and very high risk to miss giving that. What would happen if it was a child with epilepsy? Or diabetes???! They are not trained enough to discern which medications can wait or which need to be given within a time frame (and rightly so, that is not within their job remit) so they should be following the instructions that you provided when you dropped him off/the label on the medication.
Not good enough in my opinion, not sure whether I would jump to change nursery if he is settled otherwise but I would raise to manager and ask them to have their policy checked. Not sure how they could possibly get away with that.

anxiousmotherof1 · 20/11/2018 20:13

@AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen he has them at 7 3 nad 11 . I only knew they didnt give it to him at 6 .
He has only been there for a week now most of which he was home sick .
Maybe the guilt i feel for leaving him is making me ott . And this isnt helping

OP posts:
anxiousmotherof1 · 20/11/2018 20:14

@Jent13c that is excactly what i am feeling how can they know is ok not to give it ? They could at least asked me . I will definately speak to the manager tomorrow i think even if i seem ott .

Jent13c · 20/11/2018 20:17

ps. not a service issue (ie. expecting more for your money). it's a safety issue.

I know there is a lot of press about antibiotics being prescribed unnecessarily but if your son has been given them by a GP and has a bacterial infection it is absolutely important that he doesn't miss a dose. The nursery staff are in no way qualified to make that decision.

MrsStrowman · 20/11/2018 20:18

You just need to be clearer in your instructions eg if he sleeps through medicine time could you give it to him when he wakes and let me know what time that was so I can adjust his evening dose time. You do need to calm down a bit.

anxiousmotherof1 · 20/11/2018 20:23

I was quite clear with my instructions give it to him around 3 . How specific can i be ? They do not know that u cannot skip antibiotics ??

OP posts:
SPR1107 · 20/11/2018 20:26

I know not the same, but we gave instructions to my DS nursery to not let him nap past 3pm. Recently they called me at 2.55 and said he was still sleeping, but he seemed a bit off in the morning, so shall they let him sleep longer. I think in this situation, I would expect similar.. a quick 'DS has slept through his medication, would you like us to give it to him when he awakens'.

I wouldn't change nursery over it, he's only just started, and there's bound to be a settling in period where both sides get an idea of what is expected of them.

Have a chat with his key carer, and just state in future, could they call you if they're unsure on something.

anxiousmotherof1 · 20/11/2018 20:29

Well what troubles me is that the log says he slept until 14:20 which is not the same with what she was saying so i dont know what to believe

OP posts:
MrsStrowman · 20/11/2018 20:30

They told you he was asleep why would they wake him to give antibiotics? You wouldn't at home, the only mistake was not giving it to him when he woke up
