I have mine tomorrow and am hearing mixed stories. Some say it is excruciating and others say its not painful.

I am feeling sick with worry!

@metalmidget what kind of pain was it, stomach? Did it last long?

OP posts:
Nettleskeins · 21/11/2018 11:23

The consultant did say that pregnancy does wonderful things to your fallopian tubes (ie can unblock them)

Nettleskeins · 21/11/2018 11:24

like very localised period pain shooting darts

LifesABeachCoaster · 21/11/2018 11:24

Oh gosh @Nettleskeins my anxiety is through the roof! Palms are sweating!

the thing is, I now have three teenagers.Smile so small price to pay.
tbh I think some codeine with paracetamol (I cannot remember the name of the overcounter stuff) beforehand would be worth taking and an antispasmodic that you find in Feminax perhaps? I used to get very bad period pains anyway so I think I was very sensitive to pain in that region anyway. You may be different.

Squeakyheart · 21/11/2018 11:35

Mine was uncomfortable briefly and fine afterwards but came on in the middle (first period in nine months!) so was too busy being mortified! Just remember to breathe and that it's all for a good cause and if it helps it will all be worth it!

Paperdove87 · 21/11/2018 11:37

I had mine this morning. It was a little bit sore but no worse than a smear test and it's over so quickly. I haven't got cramps now and I'm back at work. Feel fine. Hope yours goes ok. It will be over before you know it. They've put me on 5 days of antibiotics and said no unprotected sex for this month.

ValidUser · 21/11/2018 11:47

Reading with interest - having mine in an hour!

Nat6999 · 21/11/2018 11:51

I had one years ago, took Nurofen plus & paracetamol before I left home, didn't feel a thing.

LifesABeachCoaster · 21/11/2018 12:10

Can I take Ibuprofen and paracetamol together? I never ever take painkillers unless I am really bad.

Oh @ValidUser please do tell me how yours goes!

DahliaDiver · 21/11/2018 12:27

Mine was painful yes but manageable, and I’d forgotten to take paracetamol. Was really crampy for 5 days afterwards.

Don’t worry, you will be fine and it’s nothing compared to the agony of childbirth you will hopefully experience as a result of all this Grin

ValidUser · 21/11/2018 12:29

@LifesABeachCoaster let me know too! In waiting room and nervous (more about result than test).

LifesABeachCoaster · 21/11/2018 12:32

@ValidUser sending good vibes!! Hope everything goes well and you get the results you are looking for xx

MumW · 21/11/2018 12:38

Yes, you can take ibroprofen and paracetemol at the same time. Consider getting so co-codomol to add some codiene into the mix.

I did this for a hysteroscopy and it worked a treat.

MetalMidget · 21/11/2018 12:44

@LifesABeachCoaster For me it was a sharp, intense pain. It was vaguely comparable to period pain, only dialled up and hitting very suddenly.

I felt a bit rough and vaguely achey for an hour or so afterwards.

Lots of people have a better experience though, I think finding it as painful as I did isn't the norm.

littlemimosa · 21/11/2018 12:51

OP i had it in March and it was fine! No pain at all on passing the catheter into the cervix and I didn't feel the dye at all until maybe the last few seconds on one side only. It was like a sharp pull on one side but was over in a second.

I had no cramping at all afterwards and bled for a day or two lightly.
You'll be fine. It's nothing at all compared to giving birth Grin

littlemimosa · 21/11/2018 12:52

by the way forgot to say I took 2 ibuprofen an hour before but looking back it was unnecessary.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 21/11/2018 12:53

Yes and it was fine! No issues and very slight pain.

Sewrainbow · 21/11/2018 12:59

The procedure is like having a smear test, speculum in tube passed through cervix.

Period type pain is common. Blocked tubes may make it hurt a little. The actual procedure in some cases can unblock tubes which may be what happened to some pp.

hartof · 21/11/2018 13:02

Yes, mine was also horrendous. I passed out. However I was told this was because I only have one fallopian tube and there was nowhere for the pressure to go.

I was fine a couple of hours later.

Oneandoneontheway · 21/11/2018 13:03

Just had mild cramps during and after. I was pregnant the following month... After having ttc for over 2 years!!

hartof · 21/11/2018 13:05

Just to add - I had it done again a second time but with Poppy seed oil (to make the womb sticker I think it was a while ago) and had absolutely no pain during that one.

YoureMyWifeNowDave · 21/11/2018 13:08

I had one prior to being referred for IVF, I took ibuprofen 30 minutes beforehand and it wasn’t too bad at all, I had arranged to meet a friend afterwards and go for lunch/shopping and was just a little crampy afterwards but not enough to put me off lunch!

orangefolly · 21/11/2018 13:09

I had an HSG and a HyCoSy done, both in the last year. Honestly, the worst thing was the thought of it. It was much less painful than I thought it would be. Plan yourself a little treat for after and look forward to that. It will be over quickly Flowers

Eliza9917 · 21/11/2018 13:22

Good Luck. I didn't find it too painful. A bit of cramping and then over. It was very quick. I didn't really have much pain after.
