to have absolutely no idea what to buy my 1 year old for Christmas

I have two daughters. 4 and 1.

The four year old is a dream to buy for. I really need to reign myself in.

One year old however is a different kettle of fish. She is a manic toddler who likes to run around. The only toys she likes are DD1s toys (because DD2 seems to be under the impression that she is also 4 you see).

She's getting a lovely wee doll and pram so far, and an Aquadoodle, but I'm stumped as to what else I could get for her. Worse, family are all asking for ideas and I can think of nothing but clothes and pjs. They want to buy her toys etc.

She likes Happyland but we have loads of that from DD1. I think that's the problem really. She already has a lot of DD1s stuff and isn't really interested in toys for her age group.

Does anyone else find this? I feel dead guilty about it. Like I don't know her as well or something.

Indoor trampoline

Leonie87 · 19/11/2018 21:19

No space for such a thing unfortunately. She has an outdoor one

Whatever you get her make sure you have a massive cardboard box and lots of wrapping.

WakeUpSlow · 19/11/2018 21:26

Building blocks, scooter, scuttlebug, rocking horse, play tunnel, football, light up trainers, toddler slide, toddler torch.

CherryPavlova · 19/11/2018 21:27

You don’t need to buy anything much at all. A one year old doesn’t know and isn’t upset I feel they get nothing. A little teaset, a set of bricks, a wooden farm. Anything at all.

Aquamarine1029 · 19/11/2018 21:28

You've spent more than enough. She's ONE, FGS.

OhMrTumnus · 19/11/2018 21:30

We bought our two DDs things like a bag of mega blocks, some tat and a hardback book of a classic e.g. Winnie the Pooh, Beatrix Potter, the Night Before Christmas etc so they had something to remember their early Christmases by.

If you need ideas, Our 1yr old is getting a music dance centre thing as she loves dancing. A pram, Duplo, pick up ball bucket game and a game I'm already regretting where she uses a mallet to knock some balls down a maze (pretty sure her 4yo brother will be keen to play too).

MMmomDD · 19/11/2018 21:33

Get the family to buy useful things - clothes, etc...
Your list already has enough toys....
And if you don’t have a space go an indoor trampoline - do you have space for the pile of toys?
Just imagine Xmas after Xmas after bday, etc accumulating toys....
At some point one looks around the toyroom and screams (silently in my case).
And then you lock away a big chunk and no one misses them. No ONE!!
Luckily I started the process of getting rid of many of them.

bookmum08 · 19/11/2018 21:33

For suggestions from family why not ask for bits to go with the dolly. Something like a little 'change bag' that comes with a play bottle of milk and bibs etc. You can get nice simple ones from Wilkos, Tesco etc.

Justanothernameonthepage · 19/11/2018 21:34

Not all from us - but family have checked about some bits. Oh and a sponge football and a picnic set too.

Absofrigginlootly · 19/11/2018 21:34

For a one year old I would buy sensory things, musical instruments, rainbow scarves, water toys, paints, something to push around that they can put things in and take things out again, stacking cups, shape sorter, books,

But mainly I agree, a one year old doesn’t need or care for much Smile

explodingkittensexpansion · 19/11/2018 21:34

Helium balloon in a large cardboard box, wrapped.

Absofrigginlootly · 19/11/2018 21:36

Also, spade and watering can for digging in the garden and watering the flowers

Absofrigginlootly · 19/11/2018 21:38

Can you get family to buy classes? Eg swimming, messy/baby sensory or music classes?

Aworldofmyown · 19/11/2018 21:40

Honestly just stop now, it's so overwhelming for a one year old. It feels a bit mean when you have more than one but she won't notice!

Littlelambpeep · 19/11/2018 21:41

It sounds like you have loads and I wouldn't buy things for the sake of it but Melissa and Doug toys are great dressing up clothes / trolley / till

Art stuff / nice bed linen for her room / lamp (children's lamps from ikea are great)

TulipsInbloom1 · 19/11/2018 21:42

If its for others to buy her then just say "gosh Im stumped for suggestions as she doesnt need anything. Just whatever you fancy".

Stop having to think of stuff for other people.

BroomstickOfLove · 19/11/2018 21:43

I got a set of playsilks for DS when he was one and they were played with for years. He's 9 now, and they are still occasionally called into service for Halloween costumes, flags, den building etc.

EnglishRose1320 · 19/11/2018 21:44

I think it sounds like you have got her plenty, she will be totally overwhelmed otherwise.
From family if they don't want to buy clothes I would suggest, books, bath toys, tickets for days out like the zoo, swimming lessons, and maybe even a box with some toddler snacks in-organix ones etc

When my youngest was one I don't think he go much at Christmas, like you say they already have the older siblings toys. He just had a book, some socks, one toy and organic snacks in his stocking then one or two presents under the tea.

DappledThings · 19/11/2018 21:47

DC1 was 10 months at his first Xmas. We bought him a shape sorter ball. DC2 will be 1 exactly. We're buying her a couple of books.

NameChange30 · 19/11/2018 21:48

Scramblebug. Doesn't take up much space and DS enjoys scooting around on his.

NameChange30 · 19/11/2018 21:50

Play tent (indoor) or toddler slide (garden)

EmUntitled · 19/11/2018 21:51

Is she just 1 or is she 18 months + ?

My daughter is 20 months. We are getting her a play kitchen and accessories to go with it.
Family are buying her lots of books (usborne books are great, lots of variety for that age group), jigsaw puzzles and snap cards. Also some wooden toys from Aldi.

PrincessJuanita · 19/11/2018 21:56

Just leave it at that then. She sounds like she has loads, she won't really care at this age. Save your money.
