to have absolutely no idea what to buy my 1 year old for Christmas

I have two daughters. 4 and 1.

The four year old is a dream to buy for. I really need to reign myself in.

One year old however is a different kettle of fish. She is a manic toddler who likes to run around. The only toys she likes are DD1s toys (because DD2 seems to be under the impression that she is also 4 you see).

She's getting a lovely wee doll and pram so far, and an Aquadoodle, but I'm stumped as to what else I could get for her. Worse, family are all asking for ideas and I can think of nothing but clothes and pjs. They want to buy her toys etc.

She likes Happyland but we have loads of that from DD1. I think that's the problem really. She already has a lot of DD1s stuff and isn't really interested in toys for her age group.

Does anyone else find this? I feel dead guilty about it. Like I don't know her as well or something.

It's actually embarrassing. She has the vast majority of the stuff listed above. Well, between her and DD1. Bath toys, books and classes will be the suggestions I reckon.

She'll be 18 months on Christmas Day.

Your dd sounds exactly like mine so watching for ideas! Does your dd jump off the coffee table? Or just mine...

Leonie87 · 19/11/2018 22:11

Yes she will jump off the coffee table. She's also started running laps of the corner sofa which is fairly stressful.

Just let relatives buy her what they want and then judiciously regift or donate.
I used to get a bit fretty about the welter of tat but it’s sweet that family and friends want to give her something.
Look at it as you making them happy.

Toys for her age group or girls toys for her age group? Everything you’ve mentioned is very gendered...

If she is an active child try looking in the boys aisles. Mine loved cars and vehicles at that age, also the plastic animal things.

My 18 month old is getting a kitchen and accessories, a wooden clock, a toot toot garage and vehicles (pre-loved), some Hey Duggee figures and some Spot books :)

garethsouthgatesmrs · 19/11/2018 22:35

it sounds like she doesnt need much else so like you say books and clothes, what about trying to think ahead, maybe a cd player and story/nursery rhyme CD? a scooter or scuttlebug type thing? clothes/bottles etc. for her doll

do you already have cars a car mat and a garage, all mine loved that or a brio train set?

What about books she might like for later on? Narnia, Harry Potter, Wizard of Earthsea? Or books you might read for her later if there are some her brother hasn't already got.
Or start up a savings account for her? I agree days out and classes are the way to go.

I have just bought a 'Little Tikes Activity Garden' for my one year old grandson (for xmas). I watched the video of it on Argos website and its very interactive (age geoup over 6 months). I just know he is going to love it.
