Dog poo left in plastic bags in the street / park

I used to think it was people who meant to collect it later and lost an occasional one, but there seems to be an epidemic of leaving poo in pags. Surely lifting the poo up in the bag is the unpleasant part (warm, squishy and smelly). After that, why not just take it to a bin? Keep a spare carrier bag in a rucksack for transport if you want your hands free. Obviously leaving poo lying around in bags is unreasonable and dog poo just left behind would biodegrade quicker, particularly in the park, so surely it's better to just leave the poo than bag it and leave the bag? Does anybody understand the motivations behind leaving the poo in bags?

I live in a rural mountainous area which is popular with dog walkers. The path leading up the hill is dotted with poobags. It is private land, so no bins. What do these poobag idiots think is going to happen to their little parcels of joy? Why can't they just flick the bag-free shit off the path?

Ozziewozzie · 19/11/2018 11:25

I am shocked at how many poo bags are left and dog poo!! We all know that having a dog we need to pick up poo so if people don’t like the idea, then don’t have a dog. The amount of children who suffer stepping in it, (and adults) especially this time of year when it’s darker and leafy.
People would frown on parents letting their young children or babies poop in the street, and then leave it, or just lob a poopy, wet nappy onto public areas. Also people let their dogs pee outside people’s front doors, plant pots etc. I wouldn’t let my 3 yr old take a pee outside someone’s house.
I think where I live, people feel too posh to pick up poo.

SciFiScream · 19/11/2018 11:29

Dog walkers here like to throw the poo bags into the branches of trees. 🤮

Doubletrouble99 · 19/11/2018 11:29

It is a really problem but please don't leave poo as Biredisboring suggested as it can be extremely dangerous for sheep and other animals if they ingest it.

WinkysTeatowel · 19/11/2018 11:30

This drives me mad, worse than just leaving it!

No sheep here. Not farmland.

There's a nice urban tree outside our house. Bags of dog poo often get left there and I found one in my recycling bin once! They seem to think they've done the responsible thing by picking it up in a bag and it's ok to then leave said bag. Grrrr

Arnoldthecat · 19/11/2018 11:43

I never thought we would train the British to pick up dog shit. That is a minor miracle in itself. The trouble is of course, when no ones watching, well some of them revert to past behaviour and let their dog shit anywhere and not pick it up. They also dont like bringing to poo home and so they leave the bag lying somewhere or swing it into the bushes to hang around.

What is it with the British anyway? Go to many other countries and you dont see every other person with a dog. Is this a peculiarly British thing?

I actually quite like most dogs, the friendly and non yappy ons anyway but i choose not to have one. I dont want to have to endure other peoples dogs running wild in public places and i certainly dont want their shit.

Remember this next time ou see lickle Tyson licking his ass then slobbering all over your child.

Twatforahat · 19/11/2018 11:47

Introduce a dog lisence, mandatory training classes and a higher fine for leaving dog shit.

Twatforahat · 19/11/2018 11:48

*license

AmyDowdensLeftLeftShoe · 19/11/2018 11:50

The best I've seen is someone leave it on a street sign after walking past one bin and towards another.

Bins in my area are placed near bus stops for invitations reasons and state you can put packaged dog poo in them.

Oldraver · 19/11/2018 11:52

There used to be a poo tree on my journey to DS's school. I found it by hitting my head on one dangling as I was on my bike

Fucking rank

blueskiesandforests · 19/11/2018 11:53

When I go to the UK it seems as though everyone has a dog and only a fraction of those people have made any attempt to train, control and take responsibility for their dogs.

It seems as though this is far more prevalent than when I was growing up in the UK - my parents had a dog but nobody else I knew did.

I think the change might partly be that people now take their dogs everywhere and used to leave them at home except when specifically goung on a dog walk.

It'd be interesting to know whether ownership generally has increased.

It looks as though eastern Europeans are more likely to own dogs than UK households, but UK more likely than most other western European countries. The impression of number of dogs per head of population is greater than statistics suggest I think, possibly because so many are untrained, not under control and taken everywhere. There are no real consequences in the UK for dog owners who let their dogs do damage including dog on dog attacks, or for antisocial dog ownership unless someone is very badly bitten.

JimandPam · 19/11/2018 11:54

I am a dog owner and I hate it. Never understood it myself. We have a bridal path with no bins that people use to walk their dogs in the evenings that is littered with hanging bags off trees. Clearly some below in the dog poo fairy! How hard is it to bring the bag home and dispose of it in your own bin?

Terrible habit.

Boredisboring · 19/11/2018 11:55

@Oldraver That's not even funny. I don't understand the mentality.

Wordthe · 19/11/2018 12:04

It's just so revolting isn't it
dogs and dog owners are ruining the outdoors for everyone else, it's just one big dogs toilet
I understand why people like to have pets but why can't they take their shit home with them?

Arnoldthecat · 19/11/2018 12:07

So 24% or thereabouts of UK households have a dog ..? No wonder there is so much shite around. The other thing of course is that they are fashionable,,for instance the latest seems to be dachshunds...soon they will be lobbed onto the street for the next fashion.

Wordthe · 19/11/2018 12:11

Increasingly I find the trend is to let dogs run off the lead because dogs have a right to ....erm run around and piss people off if they want to
This also means that if your dog shits you can pretend not to notice because you're looking at your phone and have no idea what your dog is doing

24% of households in the UK have at least one dog.... People these days seem to have 3 or 4 dogs, of course life is more fun for dogs when they have companions
More dogs = more shit but that's not a problem for the dog owner cos they can just leave it lying around

Arnoldthecat · 19/11/2018 13:25

I understand it is now a legal requirement to have all dogs chipped but who is policing that? Bring back the dog licence

GhostsToMonsoon · 19/11/2018 13:33

I'm a new dog owner and always pick up the poo - it really isn't difficult. I have a Dickybag which is very useful. If it's dark take a torch so you can see where your dog poos. It's disgusting seeing poo bags everywhere, especially hanging from branches. If you aren't prepared to deal with dog poo, then you shouldn't get a dog.

kaitlinktm · 19/11/2018 13:34

I live in a corner house and people used to leave their bagged dog poo stuffed in the hedge - dirty fuckers! Horrible job it was to cut that hedge. They don't seem to do it now thank God - but why would you?

MRex · 19/11/2018 13:44

Right, so seems like it's a "thing" for dog poo to be left bagged all over the place. I still don't understand why; leaving the poo entirely is at least the lazy answer. Does nobody have a suggestion about why? (Name change to admit it?)

ASilhouetteAndNothingMore · 19/11/2018 13:50

Someone actually posted a request on our local Facebook page requesting that people "stop filling the bins with litter" because she couldn't get her dog poo in there. HmmConfused

HoustonBess · 19/11/2018 13:57

I think people do it because it's easier to surreptitiously leave a dog poo baggy without being noticed than to leave the dog poo. The dog takes a while to poo, people might be watching, you bag it up and don't know who is watching, but once you have it in a bag you can have a good look around and chuck it somewhere when you're sure no one is looking. Carrying the weight of a dog turd around is pretty gross so maybe it's good to be rid of it? Maybe people also justify it to themselves that it at least won't get stepped in, and that's the main problem?

Not a dog owner myself by the way, used to walk one with an ex and I pondered this A LOT
