Which would you recommend?! I'm having a nightmare...

We found Sainsburys to be the best for DS.

MulderitsmeX · 18/11/2018 18:06

I had this too. One "theory" i read online is that boys have snaller hips and leak for the first 3 months then it suddenly gets better, this is my experience.
Saying that this is my ranking of akk the nappies I have tried (best - worst)
Sainsburys (by far the best)
Waitrose
Pampers
Boots (v leaky)

Mumof1DS · 18/11/2018 18:07

Cloth nappies all the way :)

Annajohnsdottir · 18/11/2018 18:08

What aspect are you having a nightmare with? Leaks, their general fit, rashes etc.? Also how old is he and what size would you say he's currently in?

BlueRobyn · 18/11/2018 18:09

I'm using ALDI at the mo as we were told they're best. They leak all the time...

Anyone used these and Sainsbury's to compare?

Thanks all!

We've found the Sainsbury's and Lidl ones to be the best. Pampers are useless, leak every time.

BlueRobyn · 18/11/2018 18:09

He's 4 weeks old. Quite small (just over 6lbs now). And leaks all the time! He was 5lb2 when born.

Every baby is a different shape. My little boy is a big baby and Pampers always fitted him best. But what works some months might not work others - he used to have horrible leaks with Lidl and now they can keep him dry for hours.

I would be astounded if Pampers baby dry in the correct size didn't keep your baby dry.

ElfridaEtAl · 18/11/2018 18:12

We've found Tesco's to be fantastic, the ultra dry ones. We rarely have a leak unless he's drank a lot in a short space of time. They've recently rebranded them as Fred & Flo incase you do have a look at them.

mayhew · 18/11/2018 18:12

Point his willy to the gusset of the nappy. Make a good leg seal by angling the tabs snugly towards the groin. Most leakage is caused by parents not fitting the nappy tightly enough.

sewinginmyfreetime · 18/11/2018 18:13

I also second the cloth option. Basic terry towels and bamboo boosters with a waterproof wrap for us (recommend Blueberry), have never ever had a leak, explosion, escape of horrors of any kind, no nappy rash ever (20 months now), and he is already using the potty for poos because he knows when he is going. I cannot recommend cloth highly enough. www.thenappylady.co.uk/

BlueRobyn · 18/11/2018 18:13

I am probably fitting the nappy completely wrong. Nobody ever showed me. I kinda just winged it!

I've used Sainsbury's, Lidl, Aldi, pampers, Tesco, Asda and Mum&Me. The only ones my little boy doesn't leak in is Tesco.

He has a tiny waist and bum and the Tesco ones have so much stretch in the tabs that you can do it up tight enough that the nappy does its job. Sainsbury's nappy tabs are really short and were one of the worst for him.

Politelygiveszerofucks · 18/11/2018 18:14

Mum of 5: 4 girls and a boy. Never had any problem with Pampers. One of my DDs was very small, 5lbs 2, compared to the others who were all hulking 9 pounders. We found the Pampers prem nappies best. It might be that your size 1s are just too big.

sewinginmyfreetime · 18/11/2018 18:15

Just to add, he has pooed in the potty or the toilet since 6 months as we learnt to recognise his poo face, but now he actively tells us he wants to go so he can be helped to undress.

LucyAutumn · 18/11/2018 18:16

We had a terrible time with pampers but have found (and stuck to) Morrison's nutmeg very good!

CandyCreeper · 18/11/2018 18:17

i only use
pampers, never had a
problem

FairfaxAikman · 18/11/2018 18:18

Different ones suit different babies. DS was awful in Aldi when smaller but now he's in size 4 they've worked out to be the best for him.

Poodles1980 · 18/11/2018 18:18

Aldi ones or pampers but again are you sure you are pointing his bits down before you put the nappy on. You also need to make sure the nappy is fairly up high past the belly button and fastened nice and tight. For new Babies the tabs should nearly be over each other if that makes sense.

BlueRobyn · 18/11/2018 18:19

I feel stupid for not pointing his willy down... I didn't even think of this...

OP posts:
HermioneWaslib · 18/11/2018 18:21

Are you putting the frilly bits outside?

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 18/11/2018 18:22

Boots own brand were best for us

BlueRobyn · 18/11/2018 18:22

@HermioneWaslib frilly bits? Around his legs? I think so! I'm going to change his nappy now....

OP posts:
CatchIt · 18/11/2018 18:22

Don't worry! I had no idea either having had a girl first, my friend had to tell me!

I've also found different nappies fit different babies. Dd was always in Naty but ds lasted 4 months before he leaked, Pampers now work best for him. He wees ALOT!!

Annajohnsdottir · 18/11/2018 18:23

Congratulations OP! I had never changed a nappy before my son came along and it's just another part of the learning curve Smile

As a PP, always make sure his penis is pointing down when you do his nappy up or he'll leak out of the top. The nappy should come to around the height of his belly button. Make sure both sides of the nappy (the tabs and sticky tabs) overlap each other over his hips - a gap between the two can cause leaks. Make sure the frilly cuffs around his legs are pulled out once it's done up too. Don't leave them tucked in.

Hope that helps but sorry if you knew all that already. Either way you're doing great!
