I can’t be the only person who is simultaneously sick to the back teeth of being cornered about the “exciting opportunity” that awaits, whilst feeling sorry for those who get sucked in.

A friend is desperately trying to sell me £25 shampoo from her cosmetics “business”, and encouraging me to join in for the ride. A Mercedes SLK awaits, so I’m told Hmm

How do you handle these situations? Why are people so stupid?

‘I’m sorry I’m just not interested in these type of things so won’t be buying now or anything in the future’

I just say I’m allergic to anything other than Simple then defriend them on Facebook. I’m such a coward.

UnlikelyFinancialGuru · 17/11/2018 21:29

Teehee! Excellent @littlecaf! It’s so awkward isn’t it. Do they have no shame?!

Unlikely I’ve stopped feeling bad about checking in to their Facebook profile page after I’ve unfollowed them ..... just to laugh at the ridiculous tripe they are peddling. Seriously if you’re that stupid then I don’t feel bad.

Littlecaf · 17/11/2018 21:36

I’ve never minded Ann Summers or Neals Yard or The Body Shop parties etc which are kind of similar because they are not clamining to ‘Biohack’ your age or that Aloe Vera cures cancer etc.

UnlikelyFinancialGuru · 17/11/2018 21:37

Good for you! I think you’re right to - it’s beyind annoying.

Roxanne that’s got to be the only way they make any cash at all, right? By making people feel uncomfortable enough to shell out once or twice. My mate is a “consultant” for Arbonne too...Confused I wonder how invested she is in it to pedal such rubbish.

Sister in law has become part of one of these. We go with the no, no, no we said we won't buy so your wasting your time, then rinse and repeat every couple of weeks!
Ive resisted the temptation so far to ask when she's posting statuses about the serious cash to be earnt why she keeps borrowing off their elderly parents if it's making her so rich! #blessed #bestlife Wink

Nicknacky · 17/11/2018 21:39

I had one woman who sat beside me during our kids gym class convincing me of the benefits of MOA which included being able to cure cancer.

Despite her knowing my mum died the the week before of cancer..........

UnlikelyFinancialGuru · 17/11/2018 21:39

Little agreed! When I thought it was Avon I didn’t care, at least then I didn’t resent buying the items. But those don’t fit the - dare I say it - pyramid shape of Arbonne et el.

Nicknacky · 17/11/2018 21:40

Not to mention my police officer colleague who punts the same crap and videos herself in half uniform and uses the fact she is in the police to promote it.

UnlikelyFinancialGuru · 17/11/2018 21:40

@Nicknacky WHAT?! What an arsehole. I’m so sorry about your ma.

WeirdAndPissedOff · 17/11/2018 21:40

I think it starts as good intentions and naivety/being in a poor financial position, but soon goes into desperation.
The companies are very good at selling - they and their employees, your friends etc all tell you all about how you can rake in money, be your own boss, work in a job that fits around your kids/lifestyle etc etc.
It sounds ideal, especially to someone who may find it difficult to work in other jobs, has had a few bad experiences in employment, or is in a poor financial position.

It's like a cult, and once they have you you're desperate to convince yourself that it really is a great thing. That plus the sunk cost fallacy and the fact that you can only really make proper money if you get others working under you makes people harass anyone who will listen, I think.

Nicknacky · 17/11/2018 21:43

Unlikely Thankfully I was wise to it all and gave her a look and didn’t take offence. Just shows the levels they stoop to.

countrybunny · 17/11/2018 21:45

Someone I know has recent started and I feel very sorry for her. She's not very intelligent (have known her since school) and she does these raffles where nobody buys a ticket etc and it makes me sad for her

CS12345 · 17/11/2018 21:45

Biohack my age?

I too have an intelligent, successful friend who has got involved in this shit. Her Facebook posts make me cringe myself inside out, with the utter bollocks she spouts about vibrations and upleveling. How the fuck she's been suckered in is beyond me. I have nothing to do with her any more though, as I just don't recognise the person she's become. I have to sit on my hands to stop from commenting on her posts, as I just want to scream, WHAT THE FUCK are you banging on about????

jarhead123 · 17/11/2018 21:46

I honestly didn't think it would be as shit as it was. I was sold the dream 6 years ago, fell for it. Realised about a month in that it wasn't going to work. (forever living)

CassandraCross · 17/11/2018 21:49

A good friend in another country has recently contacted me about some products she thinks will really help dh and me, I don't know if it's an MLM but suspect it is. Friend tends to be into some of these, how can I put it, Gywneth Paltrow type 'natural' healing products, problem is neither dh or me believe in any of that stuff and I think at least half of the 'benefits' from them come from you believing wholeheartedly that they will work. I am desperately trying to word a tactful reply declining said products.

They are never cheap or even reasonably priced products are they.

BlancheM · 17/11/2018 21:51

I feel bad for them for some reason even though I would never dream of putting everyone I know in such an awkward position in order to scam money out of them.

Littlecaf · 17/11/2018 21:53

Th Biohack your age one is the biggest pile of rubbish I’ve ever read. Her timeline is full of inspirational quotes and slightly questionable medical type facts......she’s just been to Salt Lake City with whomever the company is, I’ve no idea. DP screams with laughter everytime she’s posts something. I just hope she’s not spent too much money on it. Despite going to uni, she’s not showing much intelligence!

UnlikelyFinancialGuru · 17/11/2018 21:53

@jarhead that’s their skill, isn’t it. Well done for getting out. Smile

MJ1979 · 17/11/2018 22:15

@Littlecaf is it Senegence? There seem to be a million people in Utah (Salt Lake City) that sell that crap. I occasionally watch a family YouTube vlogger that is high up in that company and the videos she does selling that crap to people are hysterical!

MJ1979 · 17/11/2018 22:21

Meanwhile I've been approached by 3 different people telling me to buy their essential oils as it could help with my child's autism Hmm

Girlicorne · 17/11/2018 22:21

There's a long running thread (over 40 threads) on the danger of these scams over in money matters, fascinating yet disturbing reading with lots of links on how to deal with close ones getting sucked in! I don't know how to link though!

naicepineapple · 17/11/2018 22:25

One of them tried to 'recruit' me 😂
I just said no thanks, I'm not interested.
