AIBU to buy nice clothes only for myself

Me, dd13 & DH.
I’ve just bought myself silk thermals and paid £100 for a set. I bought myself x2 pairs of cashmere socks. We are not rich. DH has x100 pairs of Asda socks. DD grows out of things every three months or loses them at school so I buy them basic things.

I have very few items, of good quality. Dd &Dh have masses of shitty things. Even given the explanation above, is this mean?

Thanks for all the replies. The bottom line is budget. If we set aside the same for each of us annually then that should work. Dp picks things up on the way home from work as he passes a shopping centre.

How does one calculate an annual clothing budget?

I do similar OP though I do have my own separate money. I love clothes and shoes and do indulge when I can afford it.

I tell DH he can get better clothes etc if he wants but he's not bothered and chooses to spend money on his hobby instead. DS grows out of things fast and isn't into pricy brands yet.

Have a look at what you spent in the last 12 months. Or have a think - usually I replace boots every year that cost £X, plus a winter coat or wedding outfit, plus underwear/socks, trousers/jeans etc. You’ll have an idea of what you usually spend. Times by 3. If it turns out you actually can’t afford yo times by 3 without it being extortionate then maybe you need to address what you’re spending.

iamyourequal · 15/11/2018 20:36

Now instead, I will shop only 4 times a year. My total spend is £200. I have bought x2 good things and I will have them for ten years, not ten washes.

OP are you certain you are telling the truth? I can’t imagine how anyone who spends £100 on a set of thermal underwear only spends £200 a year on clothes! £100, for everything else this year? Come on!! Fess up!!

OwlinaTree · 15/11/2018 22:33

I think she meant her total spend on those things she just bought, not over the whole year.

@Uhau @Trippingalongalong Jasmine silk on amazon sells very reasonably priced silk thermals.

bagpiss · 16/11/2018 08:19

I was going to post a link but my apologies they only have standard thermals at the moment no silk ones :(

ferntwist · 16/11/2018 08:21

YANBU. You’ll enjoy them so much and your DH wouldn’t notice, while your DC will grow out of everything too fast to appreciate it.
Treat yourself and don’t feel bad for a second.

But where did you buy your silk thermals??Smile
