To be freaking out!!

I've just been to see the nurse practitioner about a persistent ache in my right upper arm, between my elbow and shoulder. She noticed that the skin on my breast bone was red and warm and examined my breast.

She then went to get a doctor who examined me and said he felt some swelling in my breast and would put through an urgent referral to the breast clinic for a mammogram.

Has anyone else had a similar experience??

I'm really scared now. I was expecting the nurse practitioner to tell me to take some ibuprofen and do some stretches or something!!

The breast clinic is a specialist one-stop service. You'll have a mamogram, a breast ultra sound & a consultant examination (not necessarily in that order), & possibly a biopsy. Scan results are usually given the same day. All referrals are urgent as an examination alone doesn't give enough information. Good luck

could i just ask, was the pain in your arm connected to the referral or was it just because they noticed the red and warm skin on your breast?

The doctor said that the pain in my arm is not connected to the breast referral and I have an appointment a week on Friday for a cortisone injection in my shoulder.

The referral to the breast clinic was due to the nurse practitioner noticing the redness and then examining my breast.

Apparently I have to wait until after my results from the clinic before I have the injection incase I need something is found.
