I've just been to see the nurse practitioner about a persistent ache in my right upper arm, between my elbow and shoulder. She noticed that the skin on my breast bone was red and warm and examined my breast.

She then went to get a doctor who examined me and said he felt some swelling in my breast and would put through an urgent referral to the breast clinic for a mammogram.

Has anyone else had a similar experience??

I'm really scared now. I was expecting the nurse practitioner to tell me to take some ibuprofen and do some stretches or something!!

Good luck OP, we have a Nurse Practitioner at our clinic and she's fantastic, I'm glad she's picked up on this and got you referred. Best of wishes OP Flowers

Rudi44 · 19/11/2018 23:00

Really hope that it went ok and you have some positive news.

Justaboy · 19/11/2018 23:09

Look at it like you have had this picked up and something is being done about it and qucikly and thats a very good thing in itself and the docs decision was the correct one to test further.

It somehow dosent seem typical of BC but thats not to say it deffo is not.

Best bet is also to stay well away from that with doc known as Doc Google! Best of luck anyways been there though not BC but another scare all the same.

Hi OP. Person with persistently lumpy breasts here. I was recently invited to take part in a trial in my area of Hertfordshire to see if women would benefit from a mammogram in the year before regular screening kicked in at 50, I said "hell yes" to this. To start, I am not a stranger to mammograms, I am AWASH with non-benign lumps in my boobs. I went for my first trial screening, got a recall a week later. Long and horrible day in a breast screening unit. I was declared cancer free. However, I have a big, weird patch of skin on the underside of my left boob that has "tenticles". I saw it on the screen. It was treated as a "thickening" but after a gazillion mammograms, being drawn on, an ultrasound, I was declared cancer free. It is absolutely normal for referrals to be treated as urgent, so please don't panic about that. It is also normal for us all to have swelling and lumps at certain "times of the month", I have a huge one that comes up every month, and disappears every month. You have a good surgery, they are on the ball and you've been referred. Most lumps are not breast cancer and as my trial consultant said "even if they are, it's almost always a brief inconvenience" Flowers

@tequilasunset hope you are ok Flowers

tequilasunset · 24/11/2018 01:21

So sorry for taking so long to update you all!

I went to the clinic for my appointment - the staff there were absolutely amazing and couldn't have been kinder.

I had blood tests, a mammogram, an ultra sound and a tissue sample taken so it was a long day.

I haven't had any results yet but have a appointment on Tuesday to get them.

I'm feeling much calmer since the appointment funnily enough and have decided 'what will be, will be'.

I'll let you all know what happens after results day x

I'm sending you all the luck in the world for good results.

I went through this with my best friend 2 years ago, she had a similar attitude to you and believe me when I say positive mental attitude is so important what ever the result xx

Hopefully all is well for you. We are so lucky to live in a time when they can do all this for you so quickly. If it is something more serious then finding out sooner and getting treated is the best thing.

Good luck x
