To remind you just how delicious Viggo Mortensen was in Lord of the Rings?

Rewatching the trilogy out of pre-Xmas nostalgia.

I had totally forgotten how amazing he looked as Aragorn. I mean I kind of remembered but not the full glory.

Sort of a cross between Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones and Daryl Dixon in the Walking Dead (before he got too grubby).

I’ll just leave this here as an aide memoire.

Nice sword Viggo btw.

Hard pass on that @GrouchyKiwi, also the Mouth of Sauron (imagine the breath!).

ScreamingValenta · 12/11/2018 20:30

Don't need reminding Wink but your pic is very welcome!

flapjackfairy · 12/11/2018 20:36

Oh Eomer is gorgeous. Grumpy but v sexy.
Not as nice as Aragorn of course but a nice second choice. Though I have to say it does put me off a bit when he snogs Arwen at the end !

Darkautumn · 12/11/2018 20:43

I'm watching ROTK right now and I was literally just thinking how hot Viggo was in it!

I also have weird crushes though. I fancied the pants off Billy Boyd (Pippin) when first watched the films Blush

Happyinheels · 12/11/2018 20:45

@DesperatelySeekingSnoozing I'm with you - Orlando Bloom ooooof!!!! In Kingdom if Heaven swoon

GrouchyKiwi · 12/11/2018 20:56

Shadowfax the Mills and Boon horse is very pretty too.

AngeloMysterioso · 12/11/2018 20:57

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett would you make an exception to your no hobbits rule for Aidan Turner?

sallyedmondson · 12/11/2018 22:06

Personally I'v always had the hots for Golem.

JudasPrudy · 12/11/2018 22:07

Oh no I never liked him at all. I did like Orlando Bloom at the time but I've since gone off him too.

Holidayshopping · 12/11/2018 22:09

Definitely as Strider-mmmmm. I was so disappointed when I saw him interviewed though-I thought he was a bit odd!!

RCohle · 12/11/2018 22:10

Viggo Mortensen is super hot as Aragon but not at all in anything else. I think it's the slightly grubby thing, he's way less sexy when he's being crowned at the end and his hair's all fluffy.

I could never understand why people thought Legolas was attractive. He looked prettier than me.

Hedgehogblues · 12/11/2018 22:15

Orlando Bloom was captain cardboard in those films though

VioletWillow · 12/11/2018 22:15

Yes I have found my people! I adore Viggo as Strider, I love Eomer, I also quite like Elrond. I don't even like men with long hair in real life. I like Fili and Kili too in The Hobbit, and Bard! Phwoar.

LittleScottieDog · 12/11/2018 22:38

I remember going to see FotR with my then boyfriend and thinking 'If Legolas walked in here right now if so dump my boyfriend'. I also had (still have!) a life-size cardboard cutout of him at home Blush

But as I've got older, Aragorn has become far more appealing. As pp have said, it's the slight grubbiness and leaping around saving people that does it. And YES, when he opens that double door... fans self

When you see Viggo being interviewed with his short hair and kind of keenness, if that makes sense, he's nowhere near as attractive.

Mumsnut · 12/11/2018 22:48

New Zealand. All those hot springs. And at NO point did Peter Jackson have the sense to adjust the script to make his main characters strip off and gambol in one.

RCohle · 12/11/2018 22:49

@LittleScottieDog Keenness nails it, he's so earnest in real life

TheFirstOHN · 12/11/2018 22:54

I find the character of Aragorn attractive, as portrayed by Mortensen, but I don't find Mortensen the actor attractive.

Mortensen's Aragorn has a lot of elements of a romantic hero. He is competent without being arrogant, he has good outdoor / survival skills, he is able to protect the small & weak (e.g. hobbits) and he has integrity.

TheFatberg · 12/11/2018 22:55

He said the N word the other day which is very off putting.

cropcirclesinthefields · 12/11/2018 22:56

Aragorn in fotr definitely hot but my Lotr heart belongs to Faramir he is my man followed a close second by his brother Boromir.

RCohle · 12/11/2018 23:04

@TheFatberg Not to derail the thread, and obviously not at all excusing using hateful language but apparently, in the context of discussing race relations in the, US he said “For instance, no one says [the N-word] anymore".

So I don't think it's a situation where he's an appalling bigot, it was just very poor judgment.

Ab. So. Lutely. Glorious. I actually can’t watch the films without becoming all flustered. He’s so gorgeous.

AdultHumanFemale · 12/11/2018 23:10

Tee hee, we were living in Asia when LOTR came out, and DP was asked for his autograph several times as he was virtually a Viggo double. Damn, he was hot...

Quiltsalot · 12/11/2018 23:19

We’ve been rewatching LOTR this last week. I have been enjoying it far too much! I love Aragorn in Fellowship and Two Towers more than Return, definitely the grubby Strider look is much more attractive.

I did stalk Viggo around the Tate Modern one time many years ago but he’s not nearly as hot in real life.

Eomer - yes, he’d make the list too. Not Boromir or Legolas. Possibly Faramir although he’s a bit goody goody.

FermatsTheorem · 12/11/2018 23:20

Book Aragorn never did it for me, but I can see the appeal of Viggo in the role. Conversely book Faramir was my first (and remains my most enduring) literary crush, but I think Wenham was totally wrong in the role and Peter Jackson absolutely ruined his character. (Wenham's a great actor in modern stuff, but not in swords and sorcery type stuff where he just turns wooden).

I can see the appeal of Fili and that's the only role Aidan Turner does it for me in, whereas I've fancied Richard Armitage in just about everything he's ever done, but not as Thorin.

Pandoraslastchance · 12/11/2018 23:25

I may have to dig out my extended versions and watch them all again.

Legolas.....Aragorn......Eomer.... just can't choose!
