Asking for advise about using abortion pills at home

Clareb12345 · 11/11/2018 13:32

Please don't judge me! I had a baby 10 months ago, after a horrific pregnancy, sickness throughout in absolute agony to a really tramatic labour. I found out two days ago I'm pregnant and I just can't do this! My OH and I are not financially stable at the moment, he's just lost his job and I'm only back to work part time, we are really struggling to make ends meet as it is! I can't believe I've been so stupid!!!! I've been in contact with women on web, I was hoping someone would have some experience with this and can give me some advise.

I've sent a message on your behalf. Just make sure to be careful no matter what you do.

dontalltalkatonce · 11/11/2018 14:20

What an utter disgrace that termination choices are not available to women in NI! I'm so sorry, OP. NO judging from me, you're making the right choice for you but I really hope you can get some help here.

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 11/11/2018 14:23

There's also this organisation who might be able to help you

www.asn.org.uk/

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 11/11/2018 14:24

Oops, cross posted, sorry

Johnnycomelately1 · 11/11/2018 14:25

Womenonweb is a legitimate organisation ( effectively a remote consultation with a doctor and they post you the medication). In fact the Uk is moving towards medical terminations being carried out at home as I understand it.

JoeyJoeyJo · 11/11/2018 14:26

I haven't taken them but have friends involved with women on Web, alliance for choice and the Abortion Support network. They are absolutely a reputable source, they have proper doctors who will prescribe the pills using telehealth.

If you absolutely can't travel, I respect that, I can understand it would be difficult with a 10 month old!

If there is a chance you can travel, do consider it. Women from NI can now get abortions free in the rest of the UK, and the Abortion Support Network can help fund your travel and accommodation if that is a concern.

If you do take the pills at home and need to seek medical attention, to keep yourself safe tell them you are having a miscarriage. Their advice and treatment will be the same.

Best of luck op, it's just so unfair that you have been put in this positron. We deserve free, safe and legal abortion access in NI so we can do this amongst our support network.

Those of you in the rest of the UK are very lucky to not need to think about this.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 11/11/2018 14:27

Don’t buy online !
Get from GP referral

If you do at home be Ready to lie
Low for a few days , lots of
Painkillers and hot water bottles . Try and have someone to help . It’s quite like having an extended miscarriage at home . Just warning you Flowers but probably better than a medical procedure FlowersFlowers

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 11/11/2018 14:28

NI ? Fuck sorry . But try and get from a reputable source

Sorry . Fucking disgrace

dontalltalkatonce · 11/11/2018 14:29

People read the thread! Her GP won't help her and she can't travel.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 11/11/2018 14:30

It looks like you probably can get the pill given above posts . Just get the painkillers and towels to hand and make sure elder kids and husband hold fort for 3-4 days

TheBabyFacedAssassin · 11/11/2018 14:31

Hi OP. I’m a member of Alliance for Choice and also live in NI. The abortion pills are perfectly safe to take at home as directed. I’ve never used them myself but from what I understand is that they will cause you some cramping and bleeding and in essence trigger a miscarriage. If you feel you need medical support you can go to a&e/gp and say that you are having a miscarriage. Do not tell them that you have taken pills.
Repeating what another poster has said about the Abortion Support Network, they are an amazing organisation who can assist you financially with travel costs to England if that’s what you would prefer. Travelling is totally legal. You can pm me if you like, I might be able to get a bit more info if you need anything specific.

Thinking of you.

JoeyJoeyJo · 11/11/2018 14:31

Just to reiterate for all those advising not to buy online, Women On Web and also Women Help Women ARE reputable suppliers, this is exactly who op should be contacting.

Fluffyears · 11/11/2018 14:31

Can you leave your baby with husband to travel if he isn’t working or are you not wanting him to know? This is a disgrace they women can have safe autonomy over their reproduction.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 11/11/2018 14:38

Some great posts on here
Bloody love MN sometimes

OP - good luck x

kaytee87 · 11/11/2018 14:42

I hope you manage to get sorted at home but if you don't and you come to Glasgow then pm if I can do anything to help Thanks

andthelightshoneonandon · 11/11/2018 14:44

I took misoprostol for a medically managed miscarriage and I believe it’s the same pill that’s used for abortions.

It was very traumatic. Heavy bleeding to the point that I was readmitted to hospital as it was a haemorrhage.

I am so sorry you’re in this position. Is there anyway you could organise a d&c on the mainland? I am so traumatised by misoprostol that I could never recommend it to anyone. I ended up with a d&c as it didn’t work.

andthelightshoneonandon · 11/11/2018 14:44

Op, like @kaytee87 I am also in Glasgow if you need anything

GrabEmByThePatriarchy · 11/11/2018 14:53

I'm so sorry you're being denied the treatment you should be entitled to as a resident of the UK OP. The current legal situation means some of us in this country are more equal than others when it comes to reproductive rights.

Clareb12345 · 11/11/2018 15:59

@Semifeatured what is the Facebook group?

OP posts:
Clareb12345 · 11/11/2018 16:01

Thank you so much to each and every person for the lovely supportive words! This is honestly the most horrible, nerve wrecking situation I've ever been in! Beings able to talk somewhere freely without feeling judged is great.... It's something that's so taboo in N.I and to alot of people you are just a horrible person if you even consider this. So thank you again

OP posts:
PiperPublickOccurrences · 11/11/2018 16:08

Much love to you OP, the situation in NI is totally shit regarding pregnancy choices.

Take care.

MachoManRandySavage · 11/11/2018 16:21

I also had the pills and had an incomplete termination, retained products and haemorrhaged. It was very traumatic and I ended up having to have surgery.

In your position OP, I would travel to the mainland and have the surgical procedure. If anything was to go wrong with the pills as it did for me, would they treat you in hospital given the circumstances?

JoeyJoeyJo · 11/11/2018 16:26

Randy Savage they will treat her in hospital in those circumstances of course, why would they not? She can say she is having a miscarriage, they would have no way to find out the truth unless she tells them. Women on Web will provide her with a lot of information, including what to watch out for and when to seek medical help, which she hopefully won't need.

Semifeatured · 11/11/2018 22:51

Hi, the facebook group was called 'Home for yes'. It was providing funding for expats to go home to vote Yes. I can't find it anymore, but I have messaged MaryLou McDonald with a link to this thread. She might not be your political choice, but she posts a lot on Facebook about NI not yet having the choice that Ireland now has.

Semifeatured · 11/11/2018 22:55

And whatever you do, don't say you've taken the pills if anything goes wrong. You don't owe anyone that honesty. But just hold on for a couple of days to see if we can find you a safer way?
