To give this woman the finger next time she beeps at me?

I’m in a car park, sitting in the passenger seat of my car. It’s city centre, and very busy.

My husband and I both had things to do so parked, went our separate ways, and agreed to meet back at the car at about 5pm. It’s a pay and display, and we’ve paid up until 5.15, but should be gone before then.

I finished what I needed to do faster than anticipated, so bought a coffee and now I’m in the car with the radio on, my coffee and a muffin, and Kindle.

A few minutes ago, a car stopped in front of where I’m parked (forward-facing space with cars driving perpendicular to the spaces) and beeped. I looked up and the driver mouthed “are you leaving?” at me. I shook my head to say no. She rolled her eyes, and drove off.

A few minutes later, another beep. I don’t look up. More beeping. I finally look up and she gestures to me so I pull down my window and she again asks if I’m moving. I say no, I’m here for another while and point to the parking ticket. She tells me the car park is for people who are shopping, and I’m taking up a space.

I laughed, and rolled up my window.

I’m now planning on reading my book whilst keeping my middle finger cocked, just to save her the hassle of beeping.

Does she have nothing better to do? I'm always perplexed by people who start stuff like this with strangers, I understand being frustrated but she could engage her brain and realise you may be waiting for someone, it isn't rocket science. And you didn't have to justify it but she kept coming back? Batshit. I'd support a middle finger if she persists

SaucyJack · 10/11/2018 16:50

Finger or anus next time.

If you’re in the passenger seat, then it’s perfectly clear that you’re waiting for the DRIVER of the vehicle to return. She’s just being twatty.

How ridiculous. Yes, it's annoying not to be able to find a space, but people are allowed to sit in their cars until their ticket expires. Especially, as a pp pointed out, you were in the passenger seat.

YANBU.

user1andonly · 10/11/2018 16:57

How strange of her to ask again. Fair enough the first time.

Are you in the passenger seat? Just wondering as I always sit there or in the back to make it obvious I'm not leaving immediately even if I'm on my own and swapping into the drivers seat when I'm ready. Not that you should have to - just wondered.

chocolatecoveredraisons · 10/11/2018 16:58

She's being an idiot but could you not explain that you're waiting for husband and will be gone by 5.15? Then she would definitely get the message

FilledSoda · 10/11/2018 16:58

She's an idiot.

user1andonly · 10/11/2018 16:58

Oops, sorry, I didn't read the OP properly (hate it when people do that too!)

BambooToothbrush · 10/11/2018 16:59

Do it. She's an idiot.

IStandWithPosie · 10/11/2018 17:02

The car park is for people who have bought a ticket. Like you.

Tell her to do one Smile

diddl · 10/11/2018 17:16

She sounds a bit daft!

Obviously the fact that you were in the passenger & were possibly waiting for the (shopping) driver eluded her!

Lockheart · 10/11/2018 17:17

I had this once, but I was the driver in that instance. I'd been out for the day with a friend but just before we left she nipped off to run one more quick errand so I went back to my car to wait.

Now I appreciate it was a busy car park and there were people looking for spaces, and that most people who stopped to ask me if I was going didn't kick up a fuss. But my god there was one woman who REALLY didn't like it. She wouldn't leave me alone - shouting, sitting on the horn. In the end, since we still had an hour left on the ticket, I got out of the car, locked it whilst giving her a pointed look, and fucked off to call my friend to join me in a cafe for a bit Grin Little victories...

SparklesAndUnicorns · 10/11/2018 17:18

For all she knows you can't even drive if you're in the passengers seat, she is clearly bored and has nothing better to do than beep her horn at strangers

Alfie190 · 10/11/2018 17:21

For people that are shopping! What on earth does she think you were there for, nobody drives to car parks to occupy a space for no reason other than to pass time.

Because people would just randomly go to a car park, pay for a ticket and then just sit in their car😂🤣😂

What a loon.

MsLexic · 10/11/2018 17:31

I was recently told to move at a garage whilst waiting for my partner to pay for our petrol... stupid thing, the pump in front of me was free and all she had to do was go round. But she was clearly convinced I was camping by the petrol pump.

RubyWho · 10/11/2018 17:46

I get this sometimes. I’ve been asked to move the car more than once, when waiting for DP to finish whatever he’s doing and meet me back at the car. Which would be fine in theory except I can’t drive.
Ignore the silly cow.

VisitorsEntrance · 10/11/2018 17:50

I’d be almost inclined to put another hour on the car just to piss her off.

I did almost that in a cafe a while ago. We were eating and a couple were hovering behind us waiting for our table. I wouldn’t have minded if we had finished but we were still eating. DH hadn’t seen them. When we finished i asked DH if he’d like another coffee and they stomped off in a huff.
Yes it was a small cafe and yes that was a bit of a dick move but they were standing there staring at every bloody mouthful.

'' I'm sat in the passenger seat love, you know, waiting for my husband who's shopping. Thanks though, Bye''

GinandGingerBeer · 10/11/2018 18:00

I get this a lot as I have to check my blood glucose level before I can drive. If it's not in range, I can't drive straight away and it pisses me off so much people honking their horns at me.

limitedperiodonly · 10/11/2018 18:08

Are there no other spaces? Not that I think you should have moved but I wonder why she craved your spot.

You get these loons in shopping centre car parks. Once, trying to leave a very busy one, I slowly edged out of my aisle onto the main circuit making eye contact with the other driver and expecting her to let me go. She speeded up and nearly took my bonnet off to cut me off. She kept screaming: 'It's my fucking right of way!' and then screeched off giving me the finger in search of a parking space.

She thought I was trying to push in, whatever pushing in in a car park where everyone is circling means. If she'd turned into my aisle she'd have got the space I'd just vacated. As it was the driver behind her realised I was leaving, flashed me and then nabbed it.
