To consider spending £300 on a hairdryer?

I’ve been debating whether to get the Dyson hairdryer for months now and Boots have a points offer on where you receive £51 worth of points when you buy it so now really is the time if any. I was brought up in a household where money wasn’t tight but my parents certainly wouldn’t have (any still wouldn’t) spend that much money on a luxury. I could afford it without taking money from elsewhere (mortgage, food shopping money, etc) but I am aware it’s JUST A HAIRDRYER. However, I have thick, wavy, long hair and blow-drying it does my head in so I’m very tempted.
Do any of you own this apparently superior gadget? Would you recommend it? The reviews online are either 5 star or 1 star.
Help!

Do it! Do it! Do it!

Seriously, it's a game changer for me. I have long, very thick, very very curly hair and it's cut drying time down massively and, because I like to wear my hair straight, it blows it straight so much better than anything else I've ever tried.

itsbritneybiatches · 10/11/2018 08:23

I bought one because my hair was really bleach damaged and was snapping off.

This is much better on my hair. It's really fast too. Total game changer.

I really want the styler for Christmas I think.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 10/11/2018 08:27

I bought one for my daughter and borrowed it recently. I have to reluctantly say it is indeed very good, so good I bought one for myself Shock. I have very thick wavy hair and the main benefit is how quick it is. Cut down drying time by half and also seems to give a smoother finish, possibly because it’s not blasting the hair for as long.

Coldilox · 10/11/2018 08:29

I adore mine.

MissCharleyP · 10/11/2018 08:36

Hmmmm.....I wanted one of these and like yourself was torn as some reviews were great and some not. My old hairdresser said not to bother - she’d tried one but didn’t think it was any different. However, seeing what pps have said, I’m now tempted again. I have very thick hair that’s difficult to manage.

ItsAndTarts · 10/11/2018 08:38

My hairdresser uses one and tbh I can't see how it's so good

Was about to say the same BUT I have fine straight hair which dries quickly anyway.

Delatron · 10/11/2018 08:46

Yes I guess if your hair is fine and dries well
anyway it wouldn’t be worth it.

My hair is curly and frizzy yet I blow dry it straight so very interested in this. Got my drying time down from 20 minutes to 10 with a parlux.

Sexnotgender · 10/11/2018 08:46

I’ve had one for a year.

I’d replace it in a heartbeat if it broke!

Love itSmile I have thick curly hair and it’s halfed my drying time.

MeredithGrey1 · 10/11/2018 08:51

My MIL has this hairdryer and I used it last Christmas when we stayed there. I loved it and would definitely buy it if it cost less. But whether it’s worth £300 really depends on how much £300 is worth to you. For example, I couldn’t have afforded it without putting less money into savings that month and we’re in the process of trying to save as much as possible to move house.

How long is the Boots offer on for, if it’s still got a while left it might be worth seeing if you can get it cheaper online when shops have Black Friday deals?

Sallycinnamum · 10/11/2018 08:52

I'm saving up for one.

I have very curly hair and have never been able to successfully dry it with a hairdryer. I borrowed mt friends dyson and it was a revelation, an absolute game changer as my hair takes hours to dry naturally.

I'm hoping to get it cheaper in the Black Friday sales.

FabulousTomatoes · 10/11/2018 08:53

I’m tempted but not because of drying time as I have thin fine hair, but because my hair is prone to frizz and I have to use straighteners nearly every day. I’ve read that it’s realy good for frizzy hair, but is it really that much of a game changer that I won’t have to use straighteners as often?

SharpLily · 10/11/2018 08:58

You are being totally unreasonable but I would definitely do it if I could! Unfortunately as we are in the middle of a house reform and I'm pregnant it's not an option. Sigh. I would LOVE to be unreasonable too in this case. Do it!

WeeSausage · 10/11/2018 09:02

I have lots of thick wavy hair and it halves the drying time. It's a lot less frizzy too.

Mine was a gift. I don't think I could bring myself to spend that much on a hairdryer. But if you can afford it, why not?

Amyerda · 10/11/2018 09:04

I have one. Got it for Xmas from do last year so had plenty if time to practice and I just cannot get the hang of it. I have fine hair which dries easily though. I thought it was going to change my life but it didn't. My teenagers love it though and keep nicking it. Smile

HotInWinter · 10/11/2018 09:06

I was gifted mine.
Love it. Not sure I could bring myself to spend it on myself tho.
Transformed my frizzy hair. Straighteners redundant on day to day drying now.

wantthenailsoffnow · 10/11/2018 09:06

What is this boots points offer and how do I get it?

WowCrabby · 10/11/2018 09:11

I LOVE mine. It's lovely and lightweight and it dries my hair beautifully

nameuseroriginal · 10/11/2018 09:49

I bought one and took it back. Absolutely NOT worth the money imo.

bluetissuepaper · 10/11/2018 11:50

I have one and wouldn't be without it

WhiteVixen · 10/11/2018 11:52

@wantthenailsoffnow it’s an event on this weekend in store or online. You don’t need to do anything, just go shopping. £10 worth of ad card points for every £60 you spend online, not sure what the instore threshold is, might be £50. It ends on Monday.

QueenofStella · 10/11/2018 15:37

Definitely get one - drying time cut in half for me (should length thick hair) and no straightening needed Smile

MrsStrowman · 10/11/2018 15:40

My best friend got one for Christmas she has very thick çurly hair as do I, I was very sceptical, it really does work. The only thing I'd say is that it's quite heavy. I haven't bought one as I tend to dry my hair naturally as much as possible and even using that I would still have to straighten after to reduce volume so I prefer to wash the night before, walk around the house like Russell Brand and straighten in the morning, or towel dry from the shower add product and let it dry into curls

Delatron · 10/11/2018 16:03

For those who have said it’s not worth the money, what hair type do you have?

Crazyladee · 10/11/2018 16:06

I couldn't justify that kind of money on just a hairdryer.

And I am the kind of girl who loves high end gadgets and has just blown £350 on a cordless Hoover.
