Or is dp about Xmas dinner?

Basically none of us are particularly fond of turkey.
Dp says we could have anything, we don't have to have a toast at all we could just have sausage mash and beans or pizza and chips or spag bowl with garlic bread.
Me I would prefer a roast I dont mind if it was just chicken. I wouldn't need every single trimmings though.
Idealy I would like
Meat
Stuffing
Roast potatoes
Rice
Veg (not fussed if it was frozen mixed veg)
Yorkies and gravy
Which is a lot less from other years - we would have all above plus
Pigs in blankets
Roast carrots
Roast parsnips
Cauliflower cheese
Broccoli

I understand (like every year) its just us 4. Me and dp, DC who are 1 and 3 and are obv keen eaters, plus ds who is 3 is really understanding Xmas - meals included!

How do you eat rice with a roast dinner? Doesn't it get gravy on it? My roots are Carribbean and I've never heard of putting rice with a roast.

We have chicken, beef, roast potatoes, Yorkshires, pigs in blankets, carrots, cabbage, sprouts, maybe peas and gravy.

Oh and stuffing! How could I forget stuffing!

Anniegetyourgun · 10/11/2018 16:02

I usually do lamb for Christmas, because it's my favourite meat and Christmas is supposed to be a treat. No point having something you aren't that fond of just because "it's traditional innit". That said, I'm due at DS's this year and if DIL cooks it it's guaranteed to be nice whatever it is. I bet she could even make turkey a bit interesting. But they usually do lamb too, if I'm there, bless 'em.

Rice??

cricketmum84 · 10/11/2018 16:10

@GabsAlot I read your small rolled joint as something else then and thinking you are gonna have a lovely relaxed Xmas day 😂

skippy67 · 10/11/2018 16:45

Can people stop exclaiming about rice please?

DeltaG · 10/11/2018 16:50

We will have roast wild boar with all the trimmings on the 25th. Escargots to start 🐌

On the evening of the 24th (the day the French celebrate, and DH is French), we have a seafood platter with oysters, langoustines etc.

Have all of it, we do!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/11/2018 16:59

Roast wild boar sounds amazing - can I ask where you get it, please, @DeltaG?

bofsy1 · 10/11/2018 17:05

Salmon on crutches here with lovely hollandaise sauce (M+S) on the side. (en croute lol)

Roast spuds, mash, croquette spuds, roasted veg, job done.

We love it!

Just have to have what you like, and not tons of it either, it's a meal and eat what you enjoy.

DeltaG · 10/11/2018 17:06

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius

A family friend shot it in Provence, Gorges du Verdon! He has a hunting permit so we get one most years.

DeltaG · 10/11/2018 17:08

I should say we're not eating the whole hog for Christmas dinner!

It is very nice if you like game.

GabsAlot · 10/11/2018 18:09

@cricketmum84 its a great double meaning

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/11/2018 18:12

Lucky you, @DeltaG!

Incidentally, we visited, and swam in the Gorges du Verdon, and I would love to go back there.

Slow roasted duck instead of turkey in our house. Just really simple one. Onion inside, salt, pepper and caraway rub inside and outside, cover and roast on low. Then I crisp it up and it's heaven Grin And now I am hungry.

SneakyGremlins · 10/11/2018 19:15

I get an M+S meal for Xmas Day, and Chinese takeaway Christmas Eve.
