Or is dp about Xmas dinner?

Basically none of us are particularly fond of turkey.
Dp says we could have anything, we don't have to have a toast at all we could just have sausage mash and beans or pizza and chips or spag bowl with garlic bread.
Me I would prefer a roast I dont mind if it was just chicken. I wouldn't need every single trimmings though.
Idealy I would like
Meat
Stuffing
Roast potatoes
Rice
Veg (not fussed if it was frozen mixed veg)
Yorkies and gravy
Which is a lot less from other years - we would have all above plus
Pigs in blankets
Roast carrots
Roast parsnips
Cauliflower cheese
Broccoli

I understand (like every year) its just us 4. Me and dp, DC who are 1 and 3 and are obv keen eaters, plus ds who is 3 is really understanding Xmas - meals included!

We usually go to my son and he cooks roast chicken and roast beef with Yorkshire puds, roast spuds and parsnips (& other veg), pigs in blankets etc. It's gorgeous!

I often buy a small turkey or turkey breast joint for husband and I to have on another day and cook with all the trimmings.

DailyMailFail101 · 09/11/2018 14:24

Do you pour gravy on your rice? If you can’t decide why not compromise one chooses xmas eve dinner and the other Christmas dinner?

Storm4star · 09/11/2018 14:25

We all hate turkey so we always have chicken and a nice lamb joint. We also have yorkshires as my DS has always loved them, along with stuffing. Roasties and mash and various veggies.

LondonMummy1987 · 09/11/2018 14:25

If you both are happy to not have turkey, and DP doesn't really mind, I say make what you want! It's your family Christmas so crack on with what you like :) Enjoy it xx

Onestep2 · 09/11/2018 14:26

Fuck it.

Make it all. Plus whatever DP wants.

Its Xmas after all.

theDudesmummy · 09/11/2018 14:27

In South Africa, where I partially grew up, there was always both rice and potatoes with a roast...

pigsDOfly · 09/11/2018 14:28

Turkey is horrible as it's very tricky to get it right and not dry it out. Pigs in blankets are horrible.

Goose is the best Xmas meat imo.

Santaispolishinghissleigh · 09/11/2018 14:29

Christmas Dinner for you +dc
Ready meal for dh!!

EdisonLightBulb · 09/11/2018 14:29

Ha ha I knew there was a reason for the rice. DS used to have a Filipino GF and her mum always added rice to every roast dinner!

Hoppinggreen · 09/11/2018 14:31

DH family are Austrian
First time I went to his Aunties house for Sunday lunch it was full roast pork dinner - with rice!
I thought they were nuts and DH thought I was as he just thought it was part of every normal roast dinner

drivinmecrazy · 09/11/2018 14:33

We're not turkey lovers so I've never cooked a Christmas turkey.
We do however have a roast. Wether that be rack of venison (so good we're going for that again this year) , goose, five bird roast, beef fillet to name a few.
It's always a highlight of our Christmas because it's easier to justify the cost of a good bit of meat than at other times of the year.
As long as it feels indulgent and extravagant then it'll do for us.
On the other hand, DDs (17 & 13) long for the day that we can order a Chinese or even a mcdonald's for Christmas lunch Confused

ileclerc · 09/11/2018 14:37

So the rice seemed odd, but understand that now.

I don't understand what the AIBU is?

croissantmuffin · 09/11/2018 14:39

@ileclerc OP has trotted off to start a thread about their own thread bemoaning how uncultured everyone who has never heard of rice with a roast is Hmm so I doubt you'll get a response re the aibu!

SoyDora · 09/11/2018 14:41

So what’s the issue? You’ve both put forwards suggestions for the day, now you can both choose what to have? Can’t see where either of you are being unreasonable to be honest.

Grumpyoldblonde · 09/11/2018 14:41

If you haven’t tried rice with gravy before you’re missing a treat.

IHaveBrilloHair · 09/11/2018 14:42

Spag bowl?

bookmum08 · 09/11/2018 14:46

I usually have a Quorn Lasagna or Pasta Bake ready meal for Christmas Dinner. Or sometimes scampi with microwave Uncle Ben rice. I don't like any of the foods that make up a roast or Christmas Dinner. A traditional Christmas meal is the part of Christmas I have zero interest in. The rest of the family have the real thing though. My husband cooks it. I find something more interesting to do than cook. If your family will happily eat what you cook without any moaning about "don't like this" cook whatever you want.

Hogtini · 09/11/2018 14:47

Just cook it all. Who cares?!

LasMeninas · 09/11/2018 14:48

Dp says we could have anything, we don't have to have a roast at all

That is very true.

Me I would prefer a roast I dont mind if it was just chicken

That is also fine.

You're both correct. What's the question?

FortyFacedFuckers · 09/11/2018 14:49

Who is making the dinner?

pallisers · 09/11/2018 14:59

Another one not sure what the question is. Have a roast that isn't turkey. I never do turkey at christmas as we already have it for thanksgiving (and I don't like it anyway).

Willow2017 · 09/11/2018 14:59

YABVVU to have Yorkshire pudding with anything other than beef though

Nope. Yorkshire puddings go with any roast dinner, its compulsory in our house. (as are roast pottoes) Grin

Willow2017 · 09/11/2018 15:00

potatoes!!

GabsAlot · 09/11/2018 15:02

greendale17 · 09/11/2018 15:03

I know quite a few people who don’t have roast dinner on Christmas Day instead opting for different food
