Wibu to make ds wear this for children in need?

11 year old ds (year 6), has got to wear spotty clothes for children in need.

He doesn't have any spotty clothes and I refuse to go and buy clothes needlessly.

I suggested a pair of charity £1 children in need spotty socks from the supermarket but he refused. The only thing he was willing to consider wearing was a spotty children in need t-shirt which was £6, tbh I'd rather just give the whole £6 to children in need than buy more tat that we don't need.

I suggested that we take on old white PE top and design a spotty t-shirt ourselves, ds is quite artistic and we did something similar years ago and it looked fantastic and we had fun doing it. He's said no way is he doing that.

Wibu to say you're doing it, and that's that.

Get the £1 socks. Send him to school with them in his bag. If he feels left out as he's the only one not in spots they he can change into them. If not, you've only spent a pound.

I don't think people should be comparing Xmas jumpers with children in need t-shirts! Christmas jumpers can be worn lots of times in December and if you buy it slightly big, should fit for a few years. As an adult, I have a Christmas jumper and it comes out every December along with the Christmas box of decorations. I've had the same one for a good 3 years now if not more! Things are only wasteful if you let it be wasteful. It's all about choosing. I chose to buy a Christmas jumper knowing that I'd be able to wear it every year in December.
I only holiday in hot countries once or twice every 2 years but I still have a bikini. I don't use it unless on holiday... is that wasteful!

What about finding something round and flat eg old cloth round a 2p coin and stamping spots of household emulsion paint on a baseball cap or old scarf.

I think with Christmas jumpers and these things it's because it's for dcs so unfortunately often can't be re-worn for years to come as it doesn't fit. For adults it's different as they can wear it again and again.

I know... It's annoying me this year seems like there's an expectation to get something children in need related...

Apparently DD is going as pudsey bear... She has a pair of the pudsey socks and 2 perfectly lovely spotted tops but apparently a onesie is required 🙄 I'm letting this one go because she just outgrew her onesie but do feel a bit "pushed" to go all out and last month I would not have had the means to do so...

Charity seems to have got a bit pushy this year, but equally I don't want her to be the odd one out at school so it's hard...

Why not get a sheet of round white stickers and stick them on his normal clothes

Kokeshi123 · 09/11/2018 14:13

A lot of people including me would not be seen dead in an Xmas jumper, quite honestly.

OPyou could always suggest he goes in in a football strip and then feigns astonishment"But I thought you said SPORTY clothes....."

For me £6 is money i cant afford to waste on a t shirt for one day. I realise other people think nothing of buying this but for us would be a waste, OP I would not buy it on principle. I would say socks for £1 or you just wear your uniform.

Is he still at primary as you could ask other mums you know and see what they are doing if they are going for homemade then he wont be the only one.

Oliversmumsarmy · 09/11/2018 20:25

For me it is not the money but another piece of tat that is going to be shipped from some distant shore to be worn once and end up in landfill
