To think this is a unisex bedroom?

Please can this not be filled with "of course it isn't, she will grow a penis" silliness. I know colours are not assigned to a sex, but there is no denying we wouldn't walk into the girls section and pick a bunch of pink babygrows for our sons.

I have attached a picture of the bedding here:
imgur.com/a/xEfSazX
I saved the image and then put it on an upload site so it doesn't look like I'm advertising. Mumsnet doesn't let me post a picture I tried that first

And then pale blue walls, so it's like a wintery theme.

My mum thinks it's a bit daft as it definitely looks like you were hoping baby is a boy and we should stay away from blue pink if we don't want to be specific.

Will it look like it's for a baby boy or unisex?

Definitely unisex bedding. Though the thought of that with blue walls makes me feel cold!

If the room is mostly blue and white then some people will think it’s a boys room, but how many people are even going to see the room, and boys don’t have exclusive rights to the colour blue, and who cares what these people think anyway?!

(The last colour I would paint my little girls room is pink!)

GlitteryFluff · 09/11/2018 10:34

Ah Fred & Noah.
Love them.
Love the bedding and totally unisex.

ZackPizzazz · 09/11/2018 10:36

That's an adorable bedding set (though what's with the cushion?) The colour scheme sounds fine.

randomsabreuse · 09/11/2018 10:40

I spent my entire childhood begging for a blue bedroom. When we redid the house we bought (carpet replacement essential) there was a room sized piece in a nice blue. My DD has blue carpet, blue walls and hot pink drona in her Kallax. She seems to like it, and I like the effect of hot pink against blue.

Butterymuffin · 09/11/2018 10:40

It's hardly trucks and dinosaurs. Front it out and just tell people you picked it because you liked it, without any gender stereotypes constraining you - which is as it should be.

Birdsgottafly · 09/11/2018 10:46

Definitely unisex.

I like monochrome on a baby girl with a yellow card, or accessories.

"(though what's with the cushion?)"

Probably just to show it off. It would help coordinate a BF chair in.

lalalemon · 09/11/2018 11:01

It's lovely and unisex, but as previous poser said, would feel get cold with blue walls, how about mustard and grey? They are penguiny colours!

TeenTimesTwo · 09/11/2018 11:05

A wintery theme sounds a bit cold.
Lovely bedding, why not have yellow walls instead?
(Yes I know you didn't ask for ideas).

snowfizz · 09/11/2018 11:06

Oh I really like the idea of yellow/mustard and grey colours to match the penguin idea instead of going for the blue for their environment. Really like that ty!!

Love the bedding! I would probably team it with warm grey walls and maybe a pop of yellow for an accent colour rather than blue. But if you love the blue, it matters not whether a little girl or boy is going to sleep in there!

itsjustmebeingme · 09/11/2018 11:10

Lovely bedding!
We did a really dark grey wall with lighter grey, black stencils (cute monsters and birds) with mustard curtains. Cosy and unisex. We ended up having 2 girls that both had the same nursery (5 and 2)

SaucyJack · 09/11/2018 11:13

Definitely unisex, but agree the blue won’t work very well all year round.

Russell19 · 09/11/2018 11:14

Definitely grey and yellow with that xx

PhilomenaButterfly · 09/11/2018 11:15

My DC share a bedroom. We went with Celtic forest walls.

LannieDuck · 09/11/2018 11:28

Lovely bedding :) I'd definitely use it for my two girls.

Bananacakes · 09/11/2018 11:31

Traditionally obviously it might be seen as ‘boyish’ but that’s clearly nonsense in this day and age. My little boy has pink bedding and accessories because he loves pink.

MyBrexitIsIll · 09/11/2018 11:32

Not a issue at all. More neutral than is hard to acheive imo.

My only comment would be that actually it’s far too neutral! I would add colour to it. Yellows and oranges, greens etc...
I have a preference for some light yellow because I think they are very warming colours that fit well to a baby/child bedroom.

But I have to say, when I was expecting my first, I didn’t know if it was a boy or a girl. So I bought things that I liked rather than what will be neutral/fitting etc..
Ds1 ended with some (very light) pink babygrow. Bedding was multicoloured etc... it worked well tbh.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 09/11/2018 11:33

It's lovely OP, love the idea of yellow and grey with it!

Snowscreen · 09/11/2018 11:34

Unisex.

DD has pale yellow walls, duck egh blue curtains & white company blue cow boy girl bedding.

RiverTam · 09/11/2018 11:35

unisex but looks completely impractical, there's no way I would choose something with a white background for a baby or child, I think it could look grubby very quickly. It also looks entirely not like something a child would choose for themselves, very unchildlike, which I don't like personally. I'm not a fan of children's bedrooms looking very 'adult'.

katand2kits · 09/11/2018 11:37

Half of penguins are female so yes, definitely unisex. I personally wouldn't match it with blue walls though, I'd go for a very light grey

Dragon3 · 09/11/2018 11:38

Gorgeous, unisex. And particularly suitable for babies because they love black and white contrast.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 09/11/2018 11:42

Love the bedding. Could you do the walls in Borrowed Light by Farrow and Ball (or the Johnstone colour match in a durable paint, which is what I do for kids rooms!), which is a blue but with a slight green touch that makes it less cold and also less obviously blue/boy? Especially if you get any natural light, it's a lovely colour.

Beachbiscuit · 09/11/2018 11:42

It’s unisex, and lets you go with a winter wonderland theme. I like it.

HugoBearsMummy · 09/11/2018 11:42

Lovely bedding, perhaps a 'minty' green/blue paint if you were concerned about it looking too 'boyish' x
