To think this is a unisex bedroom?

Please can this not be filled with "of course it isn't, she will grow a penis" silliness. I know colours are not assigned to a sex, but there is no denying we wouldn't walk into the girls section and pick a bunch of pink babygrows for our sons.

I have attached a picture of the bedding here:
imgur.com/a/xEfSazX
I saved the image and then put it on an upload site so it doesn't look like I'm advertising. Mumsnet doesn't let me post a picture I tried that first

And then pale blue walls, so it's like a wintery theme.

My mum thinks it's a bit daft as it definitely looks like you were hoping baby is a boy and we should stay away from blue pink if we don't want to be specific.

Will it look like it's for a baby boy or unisex?

Is it the penguin bedding? The link takes me to that.

I'm not keen. It's not very unisex. Not male. Most male teenagers wouldn't like it at all.
Does your dd?

Drogosnextwife · 09/11/2018 11:45

The bedding is lovely bit I probably wouldn't do blue walls because it can tend to look a bit cold.

RedToothBrush · 09/11/2018 11:46

Do YOU like it?

If the answer is yes, thats the end of the conversation, no need for what your mother thinks or what MN thinks.

Have a little self confidence.

Tarn it's for a baby though, they don't have any decor opinions at all, so it's as appropriate as (say) cute jungle animals or whatever people put in baby rooms. And my 6yo would love it, although she does have slightly odd taste.

OP I would agree with others that a warmer palette for the walls might be better - nothing too bright, but something warmish like the suggested mustard would be good because when you're doing the 4/5/6 am feed in the late winter and early spring and that weak sunlight comes in and hits the blue walls it'll be pretty grim. You want to feel warm at that time of the morning, psychologically at least Smile

Agree with Pp that it's more adult than childlike. We had friends who decorated the children's room as white and grey and silver. Looked stunning but not child friendly.

We went for an animal theme. Pale yellow walls. Jungle curtains. Green rugs (wooden floors). And jungle animal stickers. Was fab for our 2 boys. They added their own pictures as they got older and their room was lovely. The bright sunshine in it helped.

Also by the time they were 2 we bought bedding that they wanted - so paw patrol, fireman Sam, postman pat, Star Wars... mucks up the theme a bit Wink

Yes, I know, but I personally find baby's or children's bedrooms looking like they're straight out of an interiors magazine a bit odd. Like the baby is some kind of accessory to a lifestyle.

And I still think it's very impractical.

Definatley love the Fred & Noah stuff it would look really nice with some sage green and pale grey, I love Ammonite F&B (but mixed up£££ is extortionate) is a really warm colour grey. H&M have some cute accessories for nursery/kids room.

shearwater · 09/11/2018 12:00

Definitely. I love it!

Vegetablegarden · 09/11/2018 12:02

I love the bedding.

If you go pale blue, I’d put in some colour elsewhere? Jewel or ochre?

It doesn’t really look like a child’s room if I’m honest, also blue tends to make a room feel cold.

We have decided to move our 1 year old and 3 year old into the same room so I’ve been googling gender neutral children’s bedrooms/nursery’s a lot. I think we are going for pastel type colours so there’s some pale pink (our daughters favourite colour) but other colours in there so it doesn’t look like a girls room. You can also buy really nice ready made mosaics that you just wallpaper on one wall, there are some really nice tasteful ones that would be in keeping with your stylish look but add more colour.

Eliza9917 · 09/11/2018 12:23

If you're worried about it looking like a boys room, why not pick a lilac-grey-blue instead of baby blue? That would also age well into a teenagers room too if the right shade.

toomuchtooold · 09/11/2018 12:36

I know what you mean - the ones that make my teeth itch have like heirloom teddy bears and prints from Le Petit Prince. But then if you let the kids decide everything, you end up with an eyewatering mess

FishBulb · 09/11/2018 13:02

Love the bedding, but then I always love penguins!

I agree with a poster above who suggested a bit of lilac in the gray, then add some golden yellow accents. If you search online for lilac and yellow baby rooms, you'll see some great examples!

CountFosco · 09/11/2018 13:18

Lovely duvet and far more longevity than the likes of Paw Patrol. My kids (eldest is 11) have always had white walls and colour added by the toys and their own artwork. I refuse to redecorate every few years according to their latest TV obsession as they get older so the walls, curtains and flooring are neutral.

ivebeenwaitinginthedarkness · 09/11/2018 15:51

Lovely bedding.

We have pale yellow in my sons room. We had a surprise baby so went for unisex. Plus we have jungle theme..

starkid · 09/11/2018 17:02

Yes it's obviously unisex, it's black and white with penguins, what's boyish? (Snore)
Bit seasonal though

OneStepSideways · 09/11/2018 17:42

It's unisex but quite a hard, masculine look for a baby's room (boy or girl). Are you goIng for any warmer colours (curtains/decoration etc)?

peachgreen · 09/11/2018 17:46

I know this isn't the point but why are you buying bedding for a baby? Have I missed something?

Isadora2007 · 09/11/2018 17:51

Next also has penguin bedding. It’s definitely unisex.
