To think that Asda shelves are empty?

Is it just my local Asda that seems to have a poor grip of stock control and shelf replenishment?
It's not just an odd item on my list that isn't there: there are empty shelves throughout the store.
Thinking of changing my loyalty and trying another supermarket for my regular shop.

There’s a similar thread on Tesco and I have definitely noticed a lack of stock in my local one.

minisoksmakehardwork · 09/11/2018 10:13

Out local Asda is undergoing various refits at the moment and I can only assume this is the cause. They run down stock in the area about to be done.

scaredofthecity · 09/11/2018 10:17

Ours is, I've stopped going as its just infuriating. Whole sections empty, they're obviously got some serious supply problems.

LouiseEH · 09/11/2018 10:31

My local Asda is being refitted right now and haven’t noticed anything but in the last 3 (almost 4) years I’ve been shopping there I can NEVER get the correct size nappies and yet all the sizes I don’t need are well stocked 😡

Etino · 09/11/2018 10:32

I’ve noticed several shops are often low on stock recently. Tesco, Lidl and Sainsburys. M&S seems well stocked.

Childminder · 09/11/2018 10:33

Morrisons is just the same, after their fancy refurb, the food is either out of date, or empty shelves, it is the pits.

Muddlingalongalone · 09/11/2018 10:34

Sainsbury's is like that here. Shorter shelf lives & lots of missing lines

frogintheTyne · 09/11/2018 10:35

Morrisons is the absolute worst for empty shelves.

Unfortunately its my local shop, but now when I go I am wearily resigned to the soviet style shopping experience of empty shelves.

tillytrotter21 · 09/11/2018 10:36

Our local Morrisions had, among other things, no mushrooms the other day!

BillywigSting · 09/11/2018 10:36

My Asda is fine but it is a huge two storey superstore flagship type affair. It's appallingly badly laid out though.

Local lidl only had about half of what I needed the other day and I can usually almost everything from there (barring a particular type of bread, a particular brand of cereal and a few soap/laundry things).

They were running low on a lot of stuff too, only one or two items of each product in some cases where usually there would be a whole shelf/fridge/box full

frogintheTyne · 09/11/2018 10:38

Infact, last time I was in Morrison's I took pictures of the emptiness, with the intention of sending in a complaint - but in the end I couldn't be arsed and just showed them to DH in frustration at it all.

BrieAndChilli · 09/11/2018 10:40

i think they run down/dont restock certain things so that they can stock for christmas - they obviously know that certain things dont sell during the run up to xmas and they need to make room for the stuff that does??

mrsm43s · 09/11/2018 10:42

I've noticed this in all the supermarkets near us. This suggests that there is something about the current economic climate that is leading to a supply issue, rather than anything to with a particular supermarket chain and their own stock control/supply chain issues.

Childminder · 09/11/2018 10:58

I made a complaint to Morrison 6 times, they ignored me, so did and email letter to the CEO, they simply don't care about their customers.

M&S food hall near us was very low on stock when I went on Sunday. Maybe just because it was a Sunday but they had no cream at all among other things.

WitchesHatRim · 09/11/2018 11:17

No problems in our massive Morrisions here.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 09/11/2018 11:18

I’ve got a couple of close relatives that work in different supermarkets. They say it’s not a case of low supply, it’s just they don’t have enough staff to be able to fill the shelves with the stock they do have (particularly night workers as they do the majority of stocking up then).

Tatgalore · 09/11/2018 11:18

Our Asda is fine, because t the Sainsbury's is terrible for empty shelves.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 09/11/2018 11:19

I think it’s due to the xmas stock that’s about to fill all the shelves

SnartyFartBlast · 09/11/2018 11:20

Brexit?

Boatsnack3 · 09/11/2018 11:20

It's because they are running on skeleton staff. They have introduced new stock control procedures without adequate training and expect everyone to be able to do the job of 6 people. We used to run a Saturday night shift with 6 fresh colleagues and 6 grocery now if we have 6 people all in its a good night. Even when we recruit we cant keep the people because the expectations are totally unrealistic.

Half the stock will be in the warehouse going out of date.

My advice would be to complain every time you go, nothing will change if customers don't force the issue.

janisposh · 09/11/2018 11:22

Condensing stock to make way for Christmas. Literally happens every year.

BlueBug45 · 09/11/2018 11:22

OP my local Aldis have that issue and I've complained but they are still crap. Hence I don't rely on them for any baby stuff.

My local Asdas if they don't have particular items in, if I complain they sort out their stock replenishment. Some of the individual staff are also helpful so if they have something in the back they get it for me and I mention how helpful they were.

Thymeout · 09/11/2018 11:29

Same thing in Waitrose, at lunch time on Friday. Basics, like UHT milk, cabbage, King Edward potatoes.

Seconding pp about staff shortages to fill shelves. They're all cutting back on their wages bill to rescue decline in profits. There was something about it in the press.
