To think that Asda shelves are empty?

Is it just my local Asda that seems to have a poor grip of stock control and shelf replenishment?
It's not just an odd item on my list that isn't there: there are empty shelves throughout the store.
Thinking of changing my loyalty and trying another supermarket for my regular shop.

Absolutely not about Christmas.
The Seasonal Christmas aisle is already full. Has been since before Hallowe'en

It's basics:- Cold meats. Vegetables ( vegetables for crissakes!) Milk. Bread. And other stuff. No Ambrosia Rice pudding ( for my pensioner father) for 3 weeks.

And the general unkemptness too.

its depressing.

frog. All the supermarkets reduce their regular stocks of all those thing to create space for Christmas foods. It's not just a seasonal aisle!

ItWentInMyEye · 09/11/2018 11:48

Lidl near me have had no pasta or passata for weeks bar a few boxes of lasagne sheets

frogintheTyne · 09/11/2018 11:49

Do they reduce vegetables, milk, bread, etc for Christmas in July, for example?

This is not a seasonal moan. Its ongoing.

Sainsbury's are always running out of stuff.

All the big supermarkets are in trouble because people don't want 10 types of baked beans and a longer and more expensive shop as a result. Too much choice, too much stock to handle, prices too high.

And they don't have the flexibility to try things out and stock interesting/weird/seasonal stuff like the Laldi middle aisle.

It seems to be getting worse across all supermarkets. Lidl had no tinned tuna for a few weeks here. Worst is Morrisons - regularly have no mushrooms, no spring onions, no potatoes, no red peppers etc. They haven't had frozen sprouts for about two months now. I gave up and did a Sainsbury on line shop last week, but that was just as bad. Massive long list of substitutions. I'm doing Tesco today instead. I'm not feeling hopeful.

I work nights in one of the large supermarkets and although we are definitely running on reduced staff we are still managing just about to work the delivery that is coming in but there are still lots of gaps in shelves, it is not in our case reducing stock for Xmas just stock being unavailable to order but I don’t know why. I have actually stopped shopping in the store I work in as so many basic items I need are out of stock such as the certain yogurts, pop and crisps we would normally buy but I have been able to get them elsewhere

I've noticed this at our M&S food hall, but not at Asda.

There was a feature on the welsh news today about firms stockpiling food before brexit and local warehouses being full. Not sure if that’s relevant to empty shelves?

Right, my Tesco shop has arrived. Only one substitution (clementines instead of satsumas so no big deal). Sainsburys last week had about 10 missing items.

Next week I'll try Waitrose.

Tobebythesea · 09/11/2018 18:09

Morrisons are the worst. No onions, no leeks, no garlic....Last week no fresh bread. FFS

Dixiegirl77 · 09/11/2018 18:27

I use to work for them,it's cutting of hours that causes it! They cut hours on front end (tills) so no staff,it gets busy, they call rest of staff from other departments to open up tills, that causes other areas jobs to fall behind so shelves aren't stocked, they also have the bright idea that if stock is on top shelf no one needs to move it ,so shelf might seem empty buy the item may be right on the top.

frogintheTyne · 09/11/2018 18:38

Morrisons and leeks! Gawd yes! Tell me about it!

sparkli · 09/11/2018 19:17

Our Morrisons has had no milk the past couple of times I've been in. And very little selection of cold meats. I gave up and went across the road to Aldi.
