to put a cork up my dogs bum

dogsaster · 08/11/2018 11:58

Ddog has eaten something rancid again and shit all over my lounge carpet. I have cleaned immediately and gone over it with a carpet cleaner and it is now dry and surprisingly fresh smelling unlike dog. However it has stained the carpet and now we have a beautiful smelling shit stained carpet for any potential visitors to admire, please, please can I have tried and tested tips for removing stains?
**disclaimer - I have no plans to stick a cork up her bum, it would come flying out with the foul smelling wind and probably break something

Fizzy water

nellieellie · 08/11/2018 12:02

For all dog poop, wee and kids vomit stains, I use “Simple Solution odour and stain remover” from Pets Corner shops. It’s an enzymatic cleaner and has always done the trick. You have to drench the area, wipe it after a few mins then leave to dry. However, Ive always used it pretty soon after the event occurred.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 08/11/2018 12:03

I also have used Simple Solution and can recommend it!

dogsaster · 08/11/2018 12:06

It happened yesterday - will simple solution work if I get some today and use it, the area is completely dry now? Thank you so much for the tips, I have fizzy water too if its worth putting some on while I pop out to get the other stuff?

I know it s hard but you need to monitor what your dog eats better - he will be feeling a bit ropey too after that so it’s in their best interest to not let them run off and find something rancid to eat .

Devillanelle · 08/11/2018 12:12

Soda crystals. 60p in savers.

dogsaster · 08/11/2018 12:21

Sivel - I have had extensive problems with her eating anything she finds and I have finally got it under control for the most part, we have previously had a behaviourist round due to her inability to control herself at all near food and she will now drop whatever dead animal she has found on command and can walk near people off lead finally as previously even on a short lead she would try and sniff pockets. This time she ate something left on the side of the road whilst on a lead in the dark due to me not having seen it in time and her speed of swallowing.

get a muzzle for the dog? Limit where she can go in the house ....

Theknacktoflying · 08/11/2018 12:30

Lab or terrier .... Smile

pigsDOfly · 08/11/2018 12:37

Yes, you need to muzzle her if she's making herself ill on a regular basis. Not ideal, but better than her being ill all the time.

I used to know someone who muzzled their dog when out on walks for the same reason. The dog was fine on it's walks, could sniff and explore, just didn't get to snaffle things that were going to result in him feel awful afterwards.

Would also recommend the Simple Solution. Most pet shops sell it, you might even be able to get it in your supermarket.

dogsaster · 08/11/2018 12:43

She's 8, we haven't had this situation for 4 years, she has been allowed to sit with the rest of the family on the carpet for over 3 of those years when we are at home so I feel it would be overkill to start muzzling her for walks although this advice would have been greatly received when she was younger and occasionally had to be muzzled mostly to stop people trying to feed her and making it worse

dogsaster · 08/11/2018 12:44

To clarify, the rest of the family tend to sit on sofas, the dog sits on the carpet next to the sofas in the evening - we don't all sit around in a furniture free carpeted room with the dog like my last post suggests

Enzyme shampoo from a vet

LizzieBennettDarcy · 08/11/2018 12:49

Dr Beckmann's carpet cleaner. We always have one in the cupboard and I've yet to find a stain it doesn't get out. It worked on cat pooh, if that's any help............

We had a chocolate lab. Say no more.

didyouseetheflaresinthesky · 08/11/2018 12:49

One of my labs used to have to wear a muzzle if out at night and I couldn't see what he was eating. They're like goats! Eat absolutely anything. The other can be trusted but has to wear a bell so I dont trip over her as she is black and I can't see her over the field in the dark.

Barbie222 · 08/11/2018 12:56

Oh no. Could you get a professional to quote for just the downstairs or something? They are the best with the really dodgy stains.

Yes to muzzling dog esp now that it's likely to be dark for the night time walks.

dogsaster · 08/11/2018 13:03

Barbie I will try some of the tips on here and if it fails I will do that.
I live in a really rural area so was surprised she managed to find something to make her ill, past experience has shown she is absolutely fine with long dead, rotting pheasants etc. so more likely junk food chucked out of a car or some dropped sweets as whatever it was wasn't much given I didn't see it before it disappeared

Grin well done on the 'drop the dead animal' success though Grin

dogsaster · 08/11/2018 13:11

longwayoff thank you, although I cannot take any credit at all for that success, we had a man come round to 'fix her' after DD dropped a LOT of raisins on the floor and she had scoffed enough to give her 48 hours in the vets and us a vet bill that made our eyes water before I could make it across the room to stop her.

I have a retriever and he ate something that caused the most awful, stinking, staining diarrhoea all over my carpet. I scrubbed and scrubbed it over a period of weeks, using everything in my cupboards to remove the stain. After seeing a recommendation on here for Dr Beckman's carpet stain remover, I now have a stain free carpet.

BabySharkAteMyHamster · 08/11/2018 13:54

You need bio washing powder.

Make a paste, rub it in and leave overnight.

Nowgimmeagin · 08/11/2018 14:05

For stains you can't beat Dr Beckman. The one with a scrubbing brush on top, has removed cat and dog stains not to mention numerous child related stains (playdough, ink, paint etc)

cobblett36 · 08/11/2018 14:39

Definitely agree with PPs about Dr beckmans, works on old stains as well. It's fab and one bottle goes a long way.

We have a lab, would eat his own shit... oh wait he has. Haha!
