Neighbours parking in our bays!!

MsMiaWallace · 07/11/2018 21:30

So we bought our property about 5 months ago. It's a newish townhouse with x3 parking bays. We own the bays they're in our deeds.
There is a particular neighbour to us who likes to park in our bays, without asking etc.
After it happening a couple of times DH requested politely that they didn't do this. We work shifts & leave & come home at all times.
They basically told him to do one & drove off.
After it happened again DH left a polite note saying these bays belong to .... number please don't Park here.
They posted a note back saying GET A LIFE on.
So we bought & fitted parking bollards.
Tonight I'm at work. A bollard was left down awaiting my return so I can park up they have parked in a bay!!
so DH speaks to them again & he received a load of abuse, threats, saying we need to get a life etc
Despite them being our property!
It is equivalent to someone parking on someones driveway.
Anyway the police were called to have a chat with them for being verbally abusive.
Is it just us BU or are they being dicks?
The bays are even marked up to the number of our house!

On a side note, I don’t suppose anyone knows what can be done about neighbours who block driveways, not with their own car, but with visitors and delivery drivers and do this at obvious peak times e.g. 8:30-9:30? And when asked to move give their reasons why they can’t move for say another hour or so? There are plenty of other places to park btw, they are just being dicks

PotteryLady · 07/11/2018 22:14

Report to the HA. They are pretty good at sorting out any issues.

Ceilingrose · 07/11/2018 22:20

I've had this precise issue. They told me they could park where they wanted, regardless of us having bought the bays. Another nasty bugger too. I think it goes with the territory of entitled ignorant shit. Thankfully the landlord down the road got rid of them.

Twistedinknots · 07/11/2018 22:23

Op do you own three cars?

Is one of your spaces always empty? this is the only reason I could see why they might feel justified to do this.

MsMiaWallace · 07/11/2018 22:30

We have x2 cars.
3 bays owned.

But they don't park in the visitor bay they park wherever.

Ninoo25 · 07/11/2018 22:33

It doesn’t matter how many cars you have, if they’re your bays, you’ve paid for them and previously asked them not to park there they are being extremely CFs. I have rude neighbours too so understand x Hopefully you’ll be able to sort them out!

GiantKitten · 07/11/2018 22:33

How many cars isn't the point.
If OP had an actual drive long enough for 3 cars, these twats would probably feel free to park on that too Hmm

Twistedinknots · 07/11/2018 22:34

So they must be feeling that you are being unnecessarily precious about one empty bay?

Is parking a big issue where you live?

It is where I do and we have to do a bit of give and take (sometimes block each other in to unload shopping etc)

MsMiaWallace · 07/11/2018 22:38

The thing is if a bay was free & they asked if they could park there of course we'd say yes.
It's a standard new build cul de sac so parking can be a pain but everyone has a bay!

Check their MOT/Insurance/Tax. CFs like that tend not to bother with trivialities like that.

You could always lock one of them into your space!

tjr1971 · 07/11/2018 22:41

Can you rent out your extra space to a commuter maybe? Or ask them if they would be interested in doing so. Many people I know that do this.

Bingowingslikeashieldofsteel · 07/11/2018 22:41

They said we were so sad & pathetic to get bollards!
Oh & need to get a life!

Please tell me your response was that they need to get a parking space more?!

Charliecatpaws · 07/11/2018 22:41

I’d be livid in your shoes OP, your neighbours are entitled CFs, what gives them the right to park on your property and then be aggressive when you ask them to move, I don’t have a solution for you sorry 😐

VisitorsEntrance · 07/11/2018 22:42

It wouldn’t matter if you didn’t own any cars.

Friend of mine had similar with HA neighbours.
They kept blocking her property and got very shouty when she picked them up on it.
She kept reporting it to the HA and wrote everything down.
They got evicted.

MsMiaWallace · 07/11/2018 22:44

I will report to HA but obviously I know it's not going to get them evicted.

OP posts:
VisitorsEntrance · 07/11/2018 22:45

Not that on its own but keep at it.

MsMiaWallace · 07/11/2018 22:47

I thought just the fact bollards where on the bays it would stop parking, even a bollard that was down act as a deterrent but CFs still parked over.
Obviously they were after a reaction.

OP posts:
MrMakersFartyParty · 07/11/2018 22:50

Why does it matter if op uses none of her spaces at all? It's ops property and these CFs can piss right off now! Speak to their HA, I had a person down the road removed by their HA after a simple email about their behaviour.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 07/11/2018 22:51

Open to being corrected on this, but my understanding was that if they parked on your property, you’re within your rights to put up the bollard and block them into the space until it’s convenient.

Bit of a scorched earth approach though.

Ninoo25 · 07/11/2018 22:53

That on its own might not get them evicted, but if they have this snotty cavalier attitude towards their neighbours over parking who knows what else they do and who else has reported them for other things and it could just be the extra ammunition the HA need to kick them out or not renew their tenancy when their current one expires. Are they houses or flats? If houses I think they can also be reported for things like leaving rubbish in garden, antisocial behaviour (like parking in your bin shed to try and go as you) and noise etc. Make sure you get proof of all of these things in future as that will help the HA build a case. Unfortunately my CF neighbours own their house as do we, so I’m stuck with my dick neighbours, but hopefully in the long term you won’t be! Good luck x

Ninoo25 · 07/11/2018 22:55

Also, if I were the HA I’d be more bothered about the anti social behaviour and visits from police. I know another poster said it’s hard to evict tenants, but I lived in a shared ownership property and the HA who owned the other 25% were extremely strict and that was with part owners, who on the whole were young professionals and not troublemakers!

MsMiaWallace · 07/11/2018 22:59

It is a nice area so I would hope the HA would do something.

OP posts:
DontWannaBeObamasElf · 07/11/2018 23:01

If there wasn’t a risk to your property/safety I’d suggest invoicing them a parking charge.

BlackandGold · 07/11/2018 23:11

Surely if you own the parking bays then it's akin to them parking on your drive?
This would be trespass and you could contact your Local Authority who might be able to tow them away?
