To have weighed myself after I went to the loo ..

Firstly: I promise I'm not a poo troll but I'm in shock and I need to ask if anyone else has every experience this!

I'm 7 weeks PP and just started a new pill on Thursday and I'm also trying to lose some baby weight so I've been doing slimming world. I weighed myself this morning and was disgusted to find out I'd actually put on 4lbs!! Was gutted thinking it was my new pill!

Cue about an hour and a half later, went to the loo and felt much better, less bloated etc afterwards so decided to weigh myself.

I was the exact same weight as I was when I weighed myself on Thursday. Why did I lose 4lbs from just going to the toilet

Note: I did weigh myself a few times this morning and afterwards to make sure the scale was working properly

Isn't it obvious that your poo/wee weighed 4lbs? Plus what you'd breathed out and, at a pinch, sweated.

KC225 · 07/11/2018 11:04

Standard to weigh - after. I go for a second punt after taking off mascara. You never know.

DwangelaForever · 07/11/2018 11:04

Well I know that's what caused the weight loss but it just seems massive 🙈🙈

Your weight can vary a lot over a day so it is best to always weigh yourself at the same time of day. I find first thing in the morning easiest to remember - it's also when you're at your lightest.

DwangelaForever · 07/11/2018 11:05

@knittingdad I did weigh myself first thing and was 4lbs heavier than after I'd gone to the loo again

No way was your poo 1.2kgs.

What kind of surface are the scales on? Were the pads resting across two different tiles? Steamy bathroom if someone took a shower in the interim (rather than a steamy shit!)

IAmRubbishAtDIY · 07/11/2018 11:09

Ha ha that's really funny!!!

knittingdad · 07/11/2018 11:11

Ah, yes. I misread your first post.

I have a Python script that calculates seven-day averages to even out the day-to-day fluctuations. This helps me to stop worrying about every daily change.

It didn't help stop me from eating too many biscuits from the biscuit factory though.

SlowlyShrinking · 07/11/2018 11:14

I think (from experience of weighing myself after a big wee, and also after a poo) that it’s more likely to be your wee that made up the bulk of the 4lbs

DwangelaForever · 07/11/2018 11:14

@ThunderInMyHeart my scales are in my kitchen and we're resting on a single tile so no overlap and wasn't steamy or anything. I'm actually shocked that it would be so big 😂 but I can't see any other reason cause I was wearing same clothes etc!

I can lose 1kg after a poo and a wee. More approaching my period. That’s why it’s normal for your weight to fluctuate by 2-4kg per day.

Perfectpeony · 07/11/2018 11:15

at 7 weeks after birth I was still losing a lot of fluid. Are you breastfeeding? My weight fluctuated a lot after I had my daughter and is still reducing.

ThunderInMyHeart · 07/11/2018 11:16

Ooh, I lie. 4lbs is 1.8kgs.

dayum!

easyandy101 · 07/11/2018 11:16

Scale variation imo

Are they digital?

I weigh myself three times on a digital and normally get a different result each time

With my sisters analog scale you can get ~5kg different results by moving it a couple of tiles across the kitchen

TemptressofWaikiki · 07/11/2018 11:17

OP, please step away from the scales. With the greatest of respect, you are obsessive and this is really counter-productive when trying to lose weight. A change in diet could affect your stool, you could have a massive fluid build-up etc. You should weigh yourself at most once a week, at the same time. Alongside of weighing you should take measurements of key areas, like your bust, waist, hips, neck, upper arm and thigh at the start and then compare that after maybe a month. This will show you far more accurately if you are seeing results. Weight can be skewered and any apparent slowing down in weight loss or even stand still could be actually due to gaining more muscles/toning up which is heavier than fat.

Olderbyaminute · 07/11/2018 11:20

I worked with heart failure patients and we advised them to weigh themselves daily first thing in morning AFTER urinating before breakfast and record their weight with parameters to know when to call doctor

MoaningSickness · 07/11/2018 11:28

Quick internet search says bladder can hold 800-900mls which is easily a couple of pounds.

I always weigh first thing in morning after using toilet and before eating anything (or putting any clothes on), and don't worry about a few pounds here or there because it's meaningless.

DoJo · 07/11/2018 11:28

You should weigh yourself at most once a week, at the same time.

Can I ask what basis you have for advising this? As I understand it, daily weighing is often recommended as a beneficial factor in weight loss.

your scale may need calibrating! My electric scale is weird - the first time I weigh it ways 2.5 ils heavier when I stand on it a minute later it goes down (do you keep your scale flat -I put my up sideways when I am not using it which is why this happens!)

mummyto1girl · 07/11/2018 11:31

Weighing your self first this in the morning after the loo is when you will get the most accurate :)

ThunderInMyHeart · 07/11/2018 11:32

Because one night you may eat a salty meal and drink water, retaining fluids...the next morning, therefore, your weight would be skewed

Not to mention the psychological effects. If you weigh yourself every day and naturally become obsessive, an increase of 0.1kg = plummeting mood and despondency.

Nothisispatrick · 07/11/2018 11:32

To be fair my post partum poos have been pretty huge.

Blobby10 · 07/11/2018 11:34

Not strange at all OP! A few years ago, I did an experiment with my weight and weighed myself morning, lunch and evening for two weeks. The variations on the scales were amazing - for some reason I put weight on overnight! I always weighed more first thing (after going for a wee) than I did last thing at night.

Whilst some may construe this as an obsessive exercise, please note 1. it was for two weeks only 2. it was just me doing it for my own information and 3. it really helped me NOT focus on the weightloss or lack thereof as it made me realise just how variable the figure on the scales can be!

Ha ha! Grin I could have written that, I am exactly the same! I weigh myself after an evening shower or bath too. That can drop a few pounds, oddly. I usually weigh myself in the morning, where I'lll take off all my pyjamas to weigh myself. I also breathe in and have been known to remove jewellery. I don't know why, but it's so disheartening if you've stuck to a plan and you haven't shifted the scales when you're trying to lose weight, so every little helps

PasswordRejection · 07/11/2018 11:38

I have to say my BMs were MASSIVE for quite a few weeks PP with both DCs Blush

I did wonder at the time if it was normal PP but embraced the fact it must have been helping me lose the baby weight Grin
