A pound.
A bloody pound, I've followed SW plan to the letter (in fact eaten less than I should of done as pretty much stopped eating breakfast)
I've walked a minimum of 3 miles a day
I'm pissed off so am AIBU to expect a bit more?

Agree OP so many factors - menstrual cycle, digestive health, your age etc. I used to be able to control my weight easily by eating a bit less for a few weeks. Now in late 40s and perimenopausal it makes no difference.

Keep at it, it might be more next week, and a pound a week will make a big difference longer term.

Oh and I've just checked on my Fitbit, I walk 70-90km a week but (disappointingly) I'm a 50-something porker (but with slim legs) I'm too knackered to get on my bike after all that haha

I'm not on a diet but..
.
I started a new job where I'm averaging 20,000 steps a day. I have lost a little weight, probably enough to make my clothes feel less snug

I have fecking lost weight on my feet...my feet of all places. Some Kickers boots OH has had in the wardrobe now fit.

I didnt want my feet to shrink...I have some lovely shoes/boots

It's all about consistency, not a week of dieting here or there. I know it's disappointing not to see results immediately when you've tried really hard but give it a month. Don't be too hard on yourself as negative thoughts mean you'll give up. You'll start seeing the health benefits too.

A pound is more than you think, start measuring your loss in Kg's- trick your brain into seeing the weight as more.

Also, it's proven that rapid weight loss in the beginning usually means a quick gain if you stop intense diet an exercise.
Muscle weighs more than fat and you could be gaining muscle slowly and losing fat, therefore not seeing much difference on the scales.

Focus on the diet more, it's the main factor. Walk as much as poss, do the stairs 2x every time. Good luck! 💐

To lose one pound per week you need to eat 500 calories less per day or burn 500 calories more per day (or any variation) than your basal metabolic rate - which you can calculate easily enough (see Wikihow )

500 calories per day is actually quite a big ask - so losing a pound per week is good going! If you want to lose more, try walking briskly - that burns up about twice the calories of normal walking pace.

I think it's better to not focus on a short-term goal of "losing weight" but as making a long-term lifestyle change to get more healthy.

Walking isn't exercise though, unless you are power walking, or on an incline or in the Fells or something. It's just living.

CheerfulAsEver · 07/11/2018 09:09

Walking might be just normal for those of us who are used to it in every part of daily life, but for some- increasing the amount of walking they do each day can make a big difference to a healthier plan.

Walking to the local shops instead of driving. Walking on the school run. Walking the dog twice as much as usual. These things can help make a change.

LucieMorningstar · 07/11/2018 09:11

How much water are you drinking?

KatherinaMinola · 07/11/2018 09:16

If you keep it up then a pound a week is half a stone by Christmas.

IME walking a lot makes you look fitter and more toned, even if you're just maintaining your weight. Looking more toned is just as much of a win.

Let's not discourage someone who is putting the effort in!! Walking is movement, movement is exercise. Any increase in movement, big or small, will help.

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 07/11/2018 09:29

Fair enough, but the OP states she is only a stone overweight and is only not doing higher impact exercise due to an injury.

With this in mind, it's clear to me that walking 3 miles a day is not going to make a big difference to the OP, which is what she asks.

Try Couch 2 5K - a much more efficient way to lose weight (and very easy, even for a non-active person like me!)
