A pound.
A bloody pound, I've followed SW plan to the letter (in fact eaten less than I should of done as pretty much stopped eating breakfast)
I've walked a minimum of 3 miles a day
I'm pissed off so am AIBU to expect a bit more?

Go back to your sw instructor with a food diary of exactly what you are eating/drinking and they will see if you are not quite hitting it. It’s so easy to think “I’ve earned this” because you have worked out but it only takes one biscuit a day over your ideal calories intake to put a stone on in a year but it is very easy to over estimate calories burnt by a bit of exercise. A long ambling walk isn’t going to burn anywhere near as many calories as a brisk beneficial walk.

Still any loss is beneficial so keep going- better off than on!

"What's wrong with a pound a week?"

This. It's a good, sustainable loss.

mumsastudent · 06/11/2018 22:04

small question - when are your periods due? Sometimes just before periods you put on a little fluid & therefore your weight wont go down much. Not to put to fine a point on it - if you get/are constipated etc - & here a strange one - how are you sleeping - poor sleep decreases weight loss. If sleep is poor decrease caffeine intake have bath in the evening & unwind. (I always find poor sleep affects me like this)

Thehop · 06/11/2018 22:08

I couldn’t get on with SW at all. Swapped to WW and 17lb down in 5 weeks.

Maybe a different programme for a few months?

Or stick with it and see what happens next week?

Tinypause · 06/11/2018 22:10

You may find you lose more weight if you eat breakfast. If you don't, when you eat lunch your body assumes that it is going to have a very long gap again and is more likely to store the energy. You need to keep your blood sugar stable throughout the day by eating regular healthy meals.

Cakeandcustard123 · 06/11/2018 22:13

Im going to guess you've gained some water weight from the increase in exercise. Whenever I start a new exercise regime I gain a little weight and it's because your muscles need water to repair themselves. A lot of people will say you've gained muscle but that's extremely unlikely when you're eating in a deficit. Give it another week for your muscles to adapt and you'll lose the added water weight and see the results from your efforts x

lostpigeon · 06/11/2018 22:13

I walk at least 8 miles a day, and until winter hit us 2 weeks ago was averaging 150 miles a week cycling. Still slightly overweight for my height.

You really should eat breakfast to kick start your metabolism each morning, otherwise it's sluggish all day. Have you been eating plenty speed foods and using all your syns? Sometimes on sw you have to really fill yourself up to lose the weight.

Lindtnotlint · 06/11/2018 22:23

The science says exercise doesn’t help much. So great to do it as makes you healthier, but for weight loss it is the food that matters. It might just take a while. Sometimes nothing goes in first week then lots in second or third. Stay the course!!

Fuzzywig · 06/11/2018 22:23

I found that on SW when I worked hard and stuck to it with a minimal loss it would show the following week. Stick at it. It could also be because you only have a stone to lose and your not eating enough.

hidinginthenightgarden · 07/11/2018 06:50

I had a complete diet over hall at the beginning of September. I also now go to the gym 4 days a week. I am only losing on average 1lb a week.

The quicker you lose weight, the more likely you are to put it back on. It is disheartening and probably the reason people struggle to stick to a diet but it is the right way to do it.

donajimena · 07/11/2018 06:57

I always visualise as 0.5lb as a pack of butter..when you view it that way it seems much more significant

MaggieAndHopey · 07/11/2018 06:57

"A lot of people will say you've gained muscle but that's extremely unlikely when you're eating in a deficit."

Well, and also you wouldn't be gaining muscle from going on some walks, unless you'd never walked in your life before.

Keep at it OP, it will happen, but it's a long slog. I'm not familiar with WW but if you keep to a calorie deficit you will lose weight.

Sirzy · 07/11/2018 07:03

1lb a week is 52lb a year!

Keep going, as someone who has lost a lot of weight I am a big believer in “slow and steady wins the race” because it is about making realistic achievable lifestyle changes not crash dieting for quick unmaintainable losses

gonzo77 · 07/11/2018 07:07

I feel you. I'm underactive thyroid (diagnosed after meningitis brought it on this year) and only just getting back into running and calorie counting. On 1210 calories per day and running 3 x per week. No weight loss for 3 weeks ffs.

thismummydrinksgin · 07/11/2018 07:12

I'd give anything for a pound right now 😂

KittyWindbag · 07/11/2018 07:21

OP don’t give up! I began my most successful weight loss journey this year. I used to give up, disheartened, when weight didn’t immediately fall off.

It’s taken me about 6 months but brisk walking 6 days. Week and fastidiously tracking my calories with MFP has lead to me losing 20kg. It’s possible! I also weighed myself every day. Some people say this isn’t good but honestly it helped me to stay on track and also to be mindful of splurging. I knew I had accountability every day.

Good luck!

junebirthdaygirl · 07/11/2018 07:21

It also depends on your age. Up to 40 l could drop a half stone by cutting back for a week now in my 50s it would be one pound if l was lucky. Also depends how bad you were beforehand. If its not a dramatic change in calories one piund is good.
The more shock it is to your system the more you lose in week 1.
Keep going. You will have half a stone gone by Christmas. And the walking will make you feel fitter and in better shape.

voxnihili · 07/11/2018 07:31

I lost 2 stone by walking a couple of years ago. I've also lost all my pregnancy weight gain in under 3 months since giving birth - mostly through walking. I use my apple watch to track how far I walk. I only count walking that has been intense enough to generate 'exercise minutes'. I can walk miles a day but if it is slow mooching about it doesn't burn much (although obviously more than sitting doing nothing). Like others have said though, slow weight loss is best. When I lost weight from being overweight I lost at about 1lb a week and kept it off for the 2 years between trying to lose weight and getting pregnant. Even at 40 weeks pregnant, I weighed less than I had done prior to starting my walking.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 07/11/2018 07:36

I’ve never lost weight on Slimming World. I remember going for 3 months. The only week l lost any weight was on holiday for a week. The only week l didn’t follow their plan.

I remember the leader saying it was because of forgotten to record how much HP sauce I’d had. Despite the fact everything else was recorded in detail. This struck me as a box ticking exercise and l never went back.

Hisaishi · 07/11/2018 07:38

Have you tried the Jillian Michaels videos? She usually has a low-impact version of her exercises.

LakieLady · 07/11/2018 07:38

A weight loss of a pound a week is 3st 10 lbs over a year. I think that's pretty good.

Also bear in mind that where you are in your menstrual cycle can affect your weight. Before menopause, I weighed 3lbs or so more just before my period than just after.

If you're desperate to squeeze into a particular dress by Christmas, try doing the 5:2 thing. I lost 7 lbs in 2 weeks doing that.

QuietContraryMary · 07/11/2018 07:38

Exercise is not particularly good for losing weight. Calorie restriction is the main thing.

Intensive (sweat pouring off) exercise is best if you are going for that. Could you perhaps ride a bike?

Teacupsandtoast · 07/11/2018 07:47

Sw isn't great - it encourages over eating and is carb/sugar heavy encouraging unlimited fruit. A lb a week is great and it's sustainable - I've been doing the fitness guy programme which has mindset work as well as a diet and exercise plan and I can relax now knowing I'll never eat like I did before. And agree with the pp's, eat breakfast!!
