Toilet Accident - 6 year old having to wait to use toilet at lunchtime

My 6 year old DD, year one, was upset and embarrassed at pick up today because she had pooed herself a bit due to being made to wait to use the toilet at lunchtime. Apparently there were already two children using the toilet so she had to wait. Fair enough, they're probably understaffed and don't want lots of children messing around in the bathroom, but the result of this policy is that my DD ended up with shit in her knickers all afternoon - and she was left feeling unable to tell a staff member, no doubt as her confidence in them will have taken a hit after the accident being caused by them in the first place.

I know they're stuck in between a rock and hard place really, but would IBU to complain?
Surely they either 'find' (hard I know) someone to accompany them, year 6 prefect if need be? Or just let them go to the toilet when they need to!?
I know it's a big jump from reception to year one and she'll have to learn she'll sometimes have to hold it, but "you should have gone at break/lunchtime" is what we were always told, and it was lunchtime, so what's a kid supposed to do?

This makes me really cross. My 6 year old is also meant to wait until breaks but I've told him if he is genuinely bursting, just go and I will deal with his teacher.

Electric Monkey, ?

Be prepared to be called a troll, apparently there is a dodgy poster who posts about kids having toilet accidents for fun.

I'm not a troll and I don't want stories! I just want opinions on if I'd be unreasonable to complain.

Hmm sounds a bit odd. Who was enforcing the 2 child limit?- you could suggest that they're redeployed to supervise in the toilets

GlassTeeth · 05/11/2018 16:13

I have the gross evidence that this happened in my bathroom bin but that would perhaps make it worse!

It was a dinner lady, though I suspect she's just following policy and it'd no doubt be rules set from higher up. Unless she was just on a power trip. (Probably an unfair suggestion, I just remember what a lot of dinner ladies were like at my primary school.)

Just hopping on to confirm that the OP's a long-term member of the site.

Obviously we've had a fair few trolls on this subject in the past so we can understand why everyone's immediately suspicious, but we always ask that you report to us, rather than calling troll on the thread.

Thank you.

MoonlightMedicine · 05/11/2018 16:18

I would definitely raise this with the school OP

TwoGinScentedTears · 05/11/2018 16:19

Whatdoes FOTT mean?

PinkAvocado · 05/11/2018 16:20

Usually I say that the children should always be allowed to go and that I would complain. However if the two loos were already in use then your dad couldn’t logistically do so. I’d have still let her go to the loos so she could go in ASAP but maybe they had a supervision concern? I’d ask to clarify.

PinkAvocado · 05/11/2018 16:21

FOTT - Fuck Off Toilet Troll?

Not saying OP is as MNHQ have confirmed not.

Orlande · 05/11/2018 16:22

I think having to wait a few minutes because the toilets are in use is normal/typical and it's just unfortunate that your dd had an accident.

Orlande · 05/11/2018 16:25

Supervision is very minimal at lunch time remember, there might not be an adult for every class, so allowing multiple 5-6 year olds to be unsupervised in the toilets is also a pretty bad idea.

I think having to wait a few minutes because the toilets are in use is normal/typical and it's just unfortunate that your dd had an accident.

I was wondering this, I don't want to go in all guns blazing if it's just an unfortunate one-off and know it's not possible for them all to go at the same time, but it's possible that this one time could really shake her confidence and I think it might leave her feeling less able to approach the staff in future.

Plus, she's had problems with with-holding poo in the past and it was a nightmare, it would be shit (hah!) if she started having problems again.
