6 seats, 7 people. Who gets the floor?

Situation cropped up yesterday: 6 seats, 7 people. The 6 seats are 5 on sofas and 1 arm chair.

The 7 people (family members so know each other well and know each others health issues so no 'hidden' issues) are: an elderly person with mobility difficulties. A middle aged person with mobility problems. A middle aged person who is healthy and well. 3 healthy and well 30 something's and a 7 month pregnant woman with sciatica and PGP.

Who should sit on the floor? And who do you think sat on the floor?

One of the healthy 30 somethings.

I am a healthy 30 something and I’d always volunteer to sit on the floor

This is all very strange. Does the pregnant woman not have a backbone? Can she not speak up for herself and say no?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 05/11/2018 11:01

If I was the pregnant woman, I'd have sat on someones lap. I had a horrendous pregnancy and like fuck would I have sat on the floor.

No, uncle bob is her dad. And a total wanker. Her partner wasn't present (the others were her mum, her brother, her cousin and sister in law). She is my cousin and the elderly relative my grandparent. Uncle Bob is a abusive wanker who I only see at weddings and funerals. Had I known he'd be there I wouldn't have visited and is why I left so early. I don't know why she was there to be honest.

What a load of inconsiderate arseholes.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue Not against her father. We suspect he was emotionally abusive during childhood. She's usually very low contact, not sure why they were visiting together that day.

All very odd but fool be her. She should have just said no to sitting on the floor. He’ll sit on someone’s lap if need be, that will shift them quick smart to get their seat.

As for getting up and down to get cuppa’s ? Again fool be her if she was doing this UNLESS no one else wanted one so she was just making it for herself. Even then you would think someone else would offer but maybe she felt odd if she was the only person that wanted one and insisted? If that is not the case she’s a fool.

HoppingPavlova · 05/11/2018 11:15

Hell, sit on someone’s lap .......

Quipsandquotes · 05/11/2018 11:18

Definitely one of the healthy 30 somethings. And if none of them offered then the healthy middle aged person should have done so. (But would be entitled to think the 30 somethings were bloody rude and entitled).

JessieMcJessie · 05/11/2018 11:23

Her brother and other cousins are also twats then.

dancinfeet · 05/11/2018 23:29

In the case of my family it was me - 2 days post birth. Everyone came to visit the new baby and left me (with episiotomy stitches) to sit on the floor. No grounds for argument, I was living with my mum at the time. It wasn't my house, therefore I had no say over the matter, but still. Selfish twats.

Who hosts the party? Probs one of the hosts, whoever is more able. Unless it's elderly people who host, in which case it's one of the children who have to take over. Pregnant women and otherwise fragile get the seat first.
