Cheeky neighbours?

My neighbour has just called my DP and asked if he could take his children and mother to the airport next week as they (neighbours) will already be away. It's a 120 mile round trip. However the neighbour has asked to use the 7 seater. Which is my new car I've had less than 2 weeks. It's not brand new but it's new to me and it cost me a lot of money. He agreed to this on the phone and then came to ask me and I've said no. I don't want my family car being used a taxi. My partner thinks I'm being unreasonable. Do you?

What did you decide to do in the end OP?

Your DP has put you in an awkward position and totally understand if you feel unable.to say no now. But I'd be tempted to say no and invent a pre existing plan that includes me using my car that morning. And let DP sort out lift with his own car!

You haven't got CF neighbours. They don't know the details of your financial arrangements with DP, and have reasonably assumed that the car was a joint possession. I regularly get asked by friends if they can borrow DP's van - which is entirely his and which I'm not even insured for.

However when I get asked that, I always say I'll mention it to DP and see if it's possible. The person being a CF here is your DP as you have acknowledged.

If you really have no plans to use the car at the time the neighbours need the lift, it would be nice to let DP borrow your car to do it, as long as they put the fuel in. As long as he realises he must never ever agree to lend anything of yours to anyone else ever ever again without consulting you!
