To ask how long left on mortgage?

Just that really. How old are you and how long do you have left on your mortgage?

Think it's also relevant how much of your salary goes on mortgage. My DH spends a third of his salary on our mortgage. If your mortgage is only £600 a month or so then no wonder it's easy to overpay!

LoveBeingAMum555 · 04/11/2018 10:21

46 and 5.5 years, but we have quite a bit of credit card debt at the moment due to helping out kids, so our financial position is not as healthy as it might seem.

TheFivePointPalmHeartOfTafiti · 04/11/2018 10:21

45 and 23 years - had to remortgage when I divorced to buy out exH. Was worth it to keep our home.

nokidshere · 04/11/2018 10:24

I'm 57 and had my lovely mil not sadly died last year and left us enough to pay ours off, we would have still had another 8 yrs to go.

I have never had enough money to make overpayments, sometimes over the past 25yrs with small children, no pay rises, and then uni and teenagers, we struggled to make the minimum payments.

AutumnGirl78 · 04/11/2018 10:27

28 and have 20 years left on current mortgage however I'm just about to start again with a new 25 year mortgage as moving to a bigger house

Hopefully will overpay as child costs get lower bit even if I don't will be gone by the time I'm not 50s

jq28 · 04/11/2018 10:27

28 and 25 years

AnnabelleLecter · 04/11/2018 10:28

I'm 50. Approximately 2 years left with overpayments. We could cash in our premium bonds and pay it off but we can afford it and still do everything we want so leaving it be.
We paid off our first mortgage in our thirties so if we hadn't have moved to a bigger house in a nicer area we wouldn't owe anything. We also have a holiday cottage mortgage free.
Hopefully this way we can help DC.

maddiemookins16mum · 04/11/2018 10:29

54.....2 years, 9 months 😁😁😁

SockQueen · 04/11/2018 10:30

34 and 23 years. Will hopefully start overpaying soon, but then also hope to move to a bigger place at some point so I expect it'll be with us for a while yet!

oldnewbie · 04/11/2018 10:30

54, paid off 7 years ago.

Foreverexhausted · 04/11/2018 10:33

There was a thread asking the same question a little while ago.

It's only relevant today! I say this for a good reason. I took out my mortgage at 22, should've been mortgage free at 47 BUT we divorced when I was 34, 12 years in to the mortgage and neither could afford to buy the other out so property was sold. So starting again with a new mortgage in my 40's so will be closer to 70 by the time it's paid off.

Looneytune253 · 04/11/2018 10:33

I’m 35 and ours is brand new and for 15 years so is less now. It’s a rtb too so already have sizeable equity now but is taking some getting used to being a homeowner lol

Dungeondragon15 · 04/11/2018 10:35

I'm in early 50s and I think we will have paid it off in about five years. We could pay it off now but I would rather have the savings. The thing about being quite close to paying it off is that payments become quite low and personally I can think of better things to do with my money.

Bluewidow · 04/11/2018 10:38

We'll surely you should ask amt left to pay too ?

CurlsandCurves · 04/11/2018 10:39

42 and 6 years left. But hoping to reduce that to 4 years with overpayments.

PurpleRobe · 04/11/2018 10:40

I'm 37 and have 6 years left

so 43 we'll be mortgage free

We over pay
(And Don't have kids)

mimibunz · 04/11/2018 10:46

50 and 18 months

user1471426142 · 04/11/2018 10:46

I’ve done 3 years and have another 31 to go which is pretty depressing. Trying to overpay and will put any inheritance etc into the mortgage. I don’t want to have a large commitment in my 60s so we’ll need to do something to bring down the balance.

confusedofengland · 04/11/2018 10:46

We are both 41. Have 25 years left of a 30 year mortgage. House cost £230k when we bought it, is now worth at least £330k, more if we can do it up. Mortgage currently stands at just under £170k, repayments of £890/month. We are not well off so some months this is a real struggle to pay, but we always manage & I love to see the total owed going down each month & to know that we only owe about half the value of the house.

We are in South East.

Asdf12345 · 04/11/2018 10:47

30 and still trying to get suitably stable work to buy.

m0therofdragons · 04/11/2018 10:47

37 and 24 years left. We're not rushing to pay it off as I'd rather have fun money while dc are young but finances are likely to improve soon so might start paying a bit more.

Ginfizplease · 04/11/2018 10:49

35 and 19 years. We over pay though so I reckon maybe 12? Will work it out.

Dungeondragon15 · 04/11/2018 10:51

We'll surely you should ask amt left to pay too ?

Yes, that would be more relevant really. The number of years doesn't say much. e.g. someone might only have £1,000 left but choose to pay it off over 10 years because their interest rate is very low.

Whatsallthisaboutthen · 04/11/2018 10:54

35, 6 years and about £80k. We overpay quite significantly and don’t intend to move. House is tiny!

ALemonyPea · 04/11/2018 10:58

38 and technically 23 years left, but have been overpaying and have knocked a few years off so far.
