Just that really. How old are you and how long do you have left on your mortgage?

OP posts:

35 and 5 years. Overpaid for the last 10 years.

flamingofridays · 04/11/2018 11:50
  1. 30 years left but we'll overpay and get it down a but if everything goes to plan. I want it paid off by the time im 50.
MrsT1983 · 04/11/2018 11:52

35 and 19 years. We’ve already reduced the term down by 2 years when we moved to a new deal. We need to move to a bigger house in next few years which will be significantly more expensive so need to maximise deposit, but I think we’ll still end up doubling monthly payments and extending term so it’s due to end when we’re 65ish. Hoping to overpay though once childcare payments go down but that won’t be for another 3-4years.

Tattletale · 04/11/2018 11:55

38 and just under 9 years

HellenaHandbasket · 04/11/2018 11:59

If we don't overpay it will be about 18 yrs. I'm 37 and dh is 44.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 04/11/2018 12:00

It’s a good job we have paid ours off. Mortgage payments aren’t taken into consideration for student finance and it would have been a lot harder to put DD through university. Her loan doesn’t even cover her rent - although it is cheaper now she isn’t in halls. Our mortgage payments WERE £700 per month (interest only) and around £50 for the endowment policy.

anniehm · 04/11/2018 12:01

45 and 8 years left but should be able to pay off in 2 as endowment (from pre marriage) pays out (unless we decide to extend or move!)

Curious2468 · 04/11/2018 12:01

36 and have 17.5 years left. Hoping to reduce this further by over paying regularly and as a minimum want it cleared by 50 really. We foolishly took a 35 year mortgage when we started out at 24 and weren’t in a position to over pay as we dropped a salary when I had kids a year later.

HelenaJustina · 04/11/2018 12:01

34 and 13 years left. But it’s under £600 a month for a 6 bed in the South East as we’d paid off the mortgage on our old house.

anniehm · 04/11/2018 12:06

Mrtrebus

Not braggy at all, not everyone lives in the south east you know! Here it's normal to buy in your 20's also common to marry and have kids younger in my observation (ons data shows this too).

Never heard of everyone having a 30 year mortgage, though max was 25 tbh

OhFlipMama · 04/11/2018 12:08

38 and 20 years. 🙄

dedicatedfolloweroffashion · 04/11/2018 12:08

Doesn't it depend though - some people will have paid off a one bed flat in the north and others paid off a 5 bed house in the south so bragging is irrelevant depending on what exactly you've paid off.

SoyDora · 04/11/2018 12:09

30 year mortgages are very common.

Lazypuppy · 04/11/2018 12:09

28 and 38 years left. Always go for the longest term to keep repayments low and then make overpayments as and when.

Not overly worried, certainly wouldn't give up eating out, family holidays etc. Life has to carry on.

Youcouldbemysilversprings · 04/11/2018 12:10

34 and 18 years left but we will be overpaying soon, hope to pay it off by the time we're 45. Although we do intend to move to a bigger property so it probably won't happen, we've spent the past 10 years in negative equity, just starting to come out of it now!

scaryteacher · 04/11/2018 12:20

52, overpaying by £2k per month, it should be gone in 11 months, just in time for dh retiring at 58. Yay.

JaceLancs · 04/11/2018 12:26

54 with 11 years left
Might get it paid off in 8-9 if I’m lucky

Mammyloveswine · 04/11/2018 12:26

We've got 20 years left on our mortgage however will be looking to move in the next few years to our forever home once both boys are in school and i go back full time.

Looking to re-mortgage tho as our fixed deal has ended and with brexit looming i anticipate an interest rate hike!

AlexaShutUp · 04/11/2018 12:45

45 and the last payment will be made next month. Grin

We weren't due to pay it off for another 12 years or so, but we have been making regular overpayments. I'll be so glad to be debt-free!

Longdistance · 04/11/2018 12:52
  1. Have about 6 years if that left. Though it’s not our forever home, we’re thinking of moving in the next few years.
Dagnabit · 04/11/2018 12:58

I'm 42 and dh is 51 - we paid off the mortgage about 6/7 years ago but it was pretty small as dh paid a huge downpayment following the sale of a property he owned with his ex. It's a nice 3 bed detached in an area we like - not huge but not tiny either but ideally we'd like to extend it to make the 3rd bedroom bigger and have another reception room. Whether that's achieved from savings or another mortgage, remains to be seen!

Minniemountain · 04/11/2018 13:00

I am 6 and have a billion years left to pay.

Why do you want to know OP? I can't see that you have shared.
