It's only 4 pounds less, but there's 14 pounds in a stone. Is it me?

Confused

Is it related to a FitBit? Mine doesn't seem to understand there's 14 lbs in a stone!

Oldraver · 03/11/2018 16:59

Have you used an online calculator to convert ? Some of them convert lbs or kg to a decimel of stone.

IE 10.5 stone rather than 10stone 7lb

Notacluewhatthisis · 03/11/2018 17:02

Notacluewhatthisiswhat happened when you all pointed out that 1920 had actually already gone by??

She said it was wrong. She just couldn't understand it. She was even drunk. She was totally sober. This is the same aunt who opened a bar six (which was 6 chocolate covered biscuits, if you don't remember it) and couldn't work out why the 7 kids couldn't have a biscuit each. Again she insisted the Bar Six usually had 7 pieces in. Even when we pointed out the name.

Knittedfairies · 03/11/2018 17:06

Oh dear OP....

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 03/11/2018 17:12

0.7 of 14 is 10.92. So the .7 of 9.7 equates to 10.92lbs. So essentially 9st 11lbs.

Bless you, OP - that's a proper brain fart right there! 😂

slashlover · 03/11/2018 17:22

Notacluewhatthisis

What does she think comes after 1919 then?

chrisinthesun

Did she have a name for the extra month or was it just unnamed?

eloliphant · 03/11/2018 17:48

Its 9.7stone but 9 stone and 11lbs. So 9.5stone ( nine and a half stone ) is 9stone and 7lbs.

9.7 stone is different to 9 stone 7lbs

3out · 03/11/2018 17:57

OP, it’s a bit like feet and inches. If someone is 5’5’’ it doesn’t mean they’re 5 1/2 foot tall.

Jenala · 03/11/2018 18:00

Poor op

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 03/11/2018 18:00

Don’t let her watch the episode of Dave Gorman’s modern life is goodish where he reforms the calendar, @chrisinthesun.

Obviously the 13th month is Gormanuary.

HurrahMoaningMyrtle · 03/11/2018 18:06

On Friday I commented to DH that Christmas should be easier now that our two DS are closer in age
He was very much Confused

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 03/11/2018 18:09

It's because 9.7 stone is working to base 10 (137lb) and 9 stone 7 isn't, because the base is 14 (133lb)

InfiniteVariety · 03/11/2018 18:12

chrisinthesun Did you ask her to name the 13th month?

siakcaci · 03/11/2018 18:13

Why do you think 137 pounds is 9 stone 7?

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 03/11/2018 18:16

Notacluewhatthisis

Whaaaaaaaat? I'm really trying to see the logic in that but I'm failing. I can only think that 1999 sounds a tiny bit like 1919 when you say it really fast...?

InfiniteVariety · 03/11/2018 18:20

I once had a really aggravating conversation with my cleaning lady who would not accept that 40% of £40 was £16. She insisted it was £10

Nanny0gg · 03/11/2018 18:23

Why do you think 137 pounds is 9 stone 7?

Use a calculator. It's the decimal point that's confused the OP

DistanceCall · 03/11/2018 18:31

That's why it's easier in kilos Grin

lynmilne65 · 03/11/2018 18:37

Yawn

mumsastudent · 03/11/2018 18:56

(imagines everybody counting on fingers :) )

Dontfeellikeaskeleton · 03/11/2018 20:08

So if I'm 137 pounds, how much do I weigh in old money I. E. stones?

9 and a half stones?

OP posts:
Dontfeellikeaskeleton · 03/11/2018 20:08

Thanks for all the responses BTW

OP posts:
SoyDora · 03/11/2018 20:11

No, 9 stone 11lbs. 9.7 stone.
If you weighed 9 and a half stone you’d be 133lbs.

PMSwithacockinmydress · 03/11/2018 20:12

wtf

I don't understand how some people function.

MsVestibule · 03/11/2018 20:13

Seriously?! Even after all of these responses Grin??

You're 9 stone 11 lbs.
