am I eating too much?

I've been flicking though some threads and am slightly concerned I'm eating too much fruit!

I eat 2-3 peices a day. 90% of the time fresh. Otherwise tried or tinned.

Veg wise I'll be anywhere between 4-8 portions. Depending on what meals I'm having.

Do I need to cut down on the yummy fruit. Too much sugar?

I'm eating a sausage sandwich and had a bite of a chocolate bar before breakfast!
MN food fascists can do one!

Feefeetrixabelle · 03/11/2018 10:51

saucyjack terrible advice- are you some kind of feeder. Air that’s all you need. Tins of pure mountain air. Don’t breathe in normal air full of calories from people eating. It is quite simply @mercurial123 yummy yummy yummy in my big fat tummy.

StillGotTheTreeUp · 03/11/2018 10:54

PurpleDaisies

I didn't really want to mention the eating disorder thing in my post as I want to gauge what's 'normal'. I've started eating more fruit recently and I enjoy it very much.

're the nutrition sites, I find it a complete mindfuck and hard to relate to so I much prefer to observe normal eaters as people do it so differently.

The thread I read paniced me but I'll forget about it and eat an apple or something Wink

mercurial123 I guess saying nom nom nom is out of the question too?

Mercurial123 · 03/11/2018 10:55

Feefee LOL I have a pained expression just reading that ....

StillGotTheTreeUp · 03/11/2018 10:56

@EvangelineTheStar I hope you enjoyed every meaty bite!

I guess op in that case I would add another requirement to my list- would what I’m eating concern the people who care about me. So are you get enough protein, carbs, fat (both healthy and a little unhealthy). Is eating making you happy. It’s important that it does.

Mercurial123 · 03/11/2018 10:57

Stillgot yes that's probably worse.....

Feefeetrixabelle · 03/11/2018 10:58

Your very lucky mercurial123 I started rhyming other words ending ummy but I took it too far so I reigned it back in.

nordlac · 03/11/2018 10:58

No joke. I've just been reading people saying you shouldn't eat more then 1 piece.

Oh yeah? Where? Link us to the thread.

Feefeetrixabelle · 03/11/2018 10:59

Do you often feel the need to restrict other people’s vocab mercurial. It’s very controlling and completely unnecessary.

bourbonbiccy · 03/11/2018 11:01

I would take the majority of what is said on here with a pinch of salt with most subjects not just diet ones. On the whole Use MM for light entertainment and if some of the threads help, it's a bonus

I think what you are eating sounds great, but I have a diet of cake and biscuit so I'm not one to follow at all. Check in on some apps or sites to do with nutrition, they could help.

I did hear you should have fruit as a starter rather than dessert, due to the way it helps to break down fat....but again, take with a pinch of salt as not sure how true it is.

StillGotTheTreeUp · 03/11/2018 11:02

Mercurial123

Not food related but nothing, I repeat, nothing is worse than....

Hollibobs HmmAngry

Witchofzog · 03/11/2018 11:06

I think the op is referring to a thread yesterday where a poster was saying they couldn't afford fruit n veg. Many many posters were saying 1 piece of fruit is too much and people should eat mainly veg.

Tigger001 · 03/11/2018 11:07

@Mercurial123 I can't stand the phrase "winds me up" ... Are you a toy .. Please refrain from using that saying 😮😮😮😮

StillGotTheTreeUp · 03/11/2018 11:07

nordlac am I allowed? I don't want this to be a taat? It's about fruit and veg costing a fortune in chat.

bourbonbiccy

I believe there is truth to this. You should wait around half an hour before eating other foods after fruit. And it's best consumed on an empty stomach.

nordlac · 03/11/2018 11:12

Found it OP, thanks.

Firstly, a lot of people are saying that because veg is generally cheaper than fruit and it's a thread about money.

Secondly, the ones saying you should eat only 1 piece of fruit for health reasons are just wrong.

Lots of people on mumsnet repeat things that have no basis in fact.

Mercurial123 · 03/11/2018 11:15

Stillgot Hollibobs is just awful but as I'm controlling on vocabulary (but not food) I'm off to enjoy a KitKat.....

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/11/2018 11:17

If/when trying to lose weight or if you have diabetes etc then probably better to try and get more veg than fruit but otherwise go for what you fancy.

Bananas are really cheap in terms of fruit.

missyB1 · 03/11/2018 11:19

Oh goodness I often read total bollocks on this site regarding food. I remember quite a few posters on one thread advocating fasting for kids and saying they didn't need 3 meals a day! Honestly the ignorance out there is scary and it all gets repeated on here as if it's absolute fact.

DaysOfCurlySpencer · 03/11/2018 11:22

Eating fruit before your meal rather than after is supposed to help with digestion for people that have problems with bloating, burping etc.

Whether that would affect fat in the rest of the meal in terms of losing weight is another thing, I am not convinced about that.

Lots of fruit will keep your bowels working well, but sugar is the new 'evil' now that it is almost impossible to buy decent full fat products due to the hype about fat being bad for us.

Just eat a balanced diet and don't worry about the fads. People used to live long lives on foods with fat and natural sugar, the problems are with the sweeteners and unhealthy fats, the man made crap.

InertPotato · 03/11/2018 11:26

Were you always this impressionable? If be more worried about that.

This did make me giggle.

Your thread is straightforwardly bizarre. Surely you can see it's fine to have two pieces of fruit daily?

April2020mom · 03/11/2018 11:27

Fruit is good for you. I tell my students this. Remember that old saying a apple each day is good for you. Stop being so guillble.

StillGotTheTreeUp · 03/11/2018 11:33

I love a banana Smile

Thank you Mumsnet.

I'll put fruit consumption back on the list of things I don't give a shit about.

OP posts:
MereDintofPandiculation · 03/11/2018 11:33

I would normally eat about 5 portions of fruit a day, and have never been above the "healthy" BMI range. Over the last two months I've (deliberately) lost a stone by cutting down on bread/pasta/rice and just eating less in total, but I haven't cut down on fruit. If you're wanting to lose weight and it's not happening, fruit intake is one of many things to look at, but I wouldn't worry about it otherwise.

And remember a "portion" is 80g or about 3oz, which is quite a lot in terms of fresh fruit.
