To not have realised until MN how weird people are?

So much weirdness on here. I had no idea until MN.

OP posts:
Redglitter · 02/11/2018 18:07

My parents saw my eldest niece when she was 2 hours old. By MN standards my SIL should have left my brother & gone NC with my parents.

My parents babysat regularly and had a travel cot and a high chair at their house. Again how my poor SIL coped I can't imagine

All my friends get on with their ILs

All my friends allow grandparents to take their children off their hands before the children were at high school

All my friends were delighted to show off their babies when they were born. In rl I've never heard of anyone who shuts themself off from family and friends for months to 'get used to being a family'

I let the satellite repair man use my loo the other day

By MN standards my life is appaling

Trappedin · 02/11/2018 18:11

It’s just a wAnky poo troll.some aaddo wanking at home. Ignore

Charley50 · 02/11/2018 18:18

I love reading about people's weird quirks. The washing sheets straight after sex ones get me aghast.. the LTB for smoking a spliff 5 years ago ones seem unconnected to reality.

Posts with livid or fuming in the title always seem to be about something totally trivial.

A make up one baffled me the other day, as everyone who replied seemed to be at CEO level or similar, and didn't wear any make up.

The nostalgic ones are the ones that often show we do all have something in common.

Gaspodethetalkingdog · 02/11/2018 18:19

Actually by the standards of people I used to work with, some of the posts are fairly normal (whatever that) is.

MN obsessions weddings/hen nights especially abroad/kids or not at weddings etc
MILs can’t do anything right

Genevieva · 02/11/2018 18:45

There is a broad cross section on here. Some people are lovely and helpful, but I do think that the anonymity causes some people to suffer from road rage - the ability to be unconscionably rude because they don't have to face the consequences. I have seen things people have written in good faith be twisted and picked apart for no good reason. At those times I think this platform is nothing better than a feeding ground for vampire bats. I might stay away for a month or so, but then on a slow day, I find myself drawn back in. One day I will go cold turkey and never come back.

GucciKnickers · 02/11/2018 18:53

'Its not just the delivery driver one, although that is bonkers. It is the things that people get really worked up about. I just think they must spend their lives in a permanent froth.'

But you're starting a thread about posters that you think are bonkers, you're no different! Different things annoy different people. It's the internet. MN is positively tame compared to other sites.

choli · 02/11/2018 19:14

Before Mumsnet, I had no idea that so many women expend so much time and energy on looking for ways to be offended by their in laws, and allow petty jealousies to poison their lives.

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 02/11/2018 19:16

The thing I don't understand is text messages etc. Apparently, nobody deletes them, ever and to do so is an indication that you are Up To No Good.

CarolDanvers · 02/11/2018 19:17

I knew some people were judgmental and loved thinking the worst of people; I have parents like this but I didn't realise just how many are like that. I'd thought my parents were rather toxic, difficult people but believed them to be in the minority but on here so many spout the same views. It has actually made me less trusting in RL as I don't know what people are really thinking but know that a significant number must be thinking the worst.

SilverySurfer · 02/11/2018 19:28

Apologies for multiple postings - no idea what happened there.

DrCoconut · 02/11/2018 19:28

Yes to the tons of cash. Where are all the people who earn under £20k, live in a terrace and holiday in Skegness? 🙋🏻‍♀️

PennyArcade · 02/11/2018 19:33

Own up Silvery. You are one of those weird people aren't you? 😂😂

Bonkersblond · 02/11/2018 19:36

I love the obsurdness of it all, it seems to me people say stuff on here similar to what might cross my mind, but they actually go into print about it, and maybe I am normal after all and not bonkers.

Unfinishedkitchen · 02/11/2018 19:55

BREAKING NEWS!!!

People are different shocker!!!

Redglitter · 02/11/2018 19:56

On MN every problem can be solved one of 4 days

LTB
Have a Spa Day
Get a cleaner
Call 101

LePetitPont · 02/11/2018 19:58

The biggest surprise to me is how totally joyless some people can be. Mortally offended to be invited to a wedding / christening. Shock horror someone wants to.... celebrate a birthday. That might involve enjoyment Shock

I didn’t know about zoflora til I joined mumsnet. But now I do and I like it!

Desecratedcoconut · 02/11/2018 20:04

I'm always surprised at how timid, petty and passive aggressive the average mn poster is on Aibu, outside of this board they seem like normal people I know.

ForalltheSaints · 02/11/2018 20:06

Does the OP live in a remote place? Just live in any town or city in the UK and MN does not surprise you.

Apart from the penis beaker, perhaps.

Sethis · 02/11/2018 20:07

My fave part is women talking to each other about men in ways that they'd utterly lose their shit over if the man was talking about her with other men that way.

Oh, and the feminism boards. Hilarious.

Polkasq · 02/11/2018 20:11

It's normal for people to be weird. Nowt so queer as folk.

LordPickle · 02/11/2018 20:46

God forbid someone go to the GP, according to MN. "I'm vomiting profusely and feel like my life is slipping away, should I go to GP?" MN response "No no no, don't waste NHS time, just call 111"

Redglitter · 02/11/2018 20:48

And people are never just a bit eccentric or kids badly behaved. They must have SN or be on the spectrum 🙄

Minxmumma · 02/11/2018 20:57

'I just think they must spend their lives in a permanent froth.'

Cappuccino people!! Sorry I'm over tired and need some sleep.

But it's been a pants week so I popped to AIBU to see what's ruffling feathers elsewhere in MN World - some serious weird ones alongside the usual suspects..... delivery driver poo Shock

PennyArcade · 02/11/2018 21:13

4 days is pushing it... what about if you want to buy a puppy? That takes 2 years don't you know? 😂

And the the teachers threads... Oh! 😱 Most teachers deserve to be publically hung, drawn and quartered! Because 6 year old little Billy's version of events is obviously the undisputed version.

Never mind.. we have the yearly school nativity whinges to look forward to...starting anytime now.. Love it! 😁

Redglitter · 02/11/2018 21:45

Blooming predictive messaging 😂 Never noticed it said days
