To think this tiredness isn't normal?

nattingherz · 02/11/2018 10:34

It's 10 days before my period and I'm exhausted.
I mean I can't keep my eyes open tired.
From Tuesday night I was falling asleep at 7pm.
I have zero energy to do anything today.
My eyes are heavy and I feel like I haven't been to sleep.
My doctor did blood tests last month and sent me on my way.
Il be like this now till after my period.
I'm fed up of this

I get this around ovulation which for me is about 10 days before my period. And does last until my period when I get energy back.

It’s quite debilitating. Have no idea what to do about it though. May go see a nutritionist and get detailed tests done.

Allfednonedead · 02/11/2018 10:44

I had blood tests done for fatigue recently. The only outlier was vitamin D, which was just below the (very wide) ‘normal’ range.
I have been supplementing with vitamin D and it’s like magic.
Obviously it’s not a cure-all, so may not apply, but it would be worth getting blood tests done.
Also, evening primrose oil has helped with my premenstrual RAGE. I no longer want to kill my DH 3 days a month.

serenmoon · 02/11/2018 10:46

I was going to suggest vit D too, I started taking it last year as found my levels were very low and it made an amazing difference to my energy levels.

BlankTimes · 02/11/2018 10:48

Are you taking a multivitamin and mineral supplement? Give it three months before you're sure it doesn't have any effect.
Look at your diet, try and reduce sugar and white carbs.
Google strategies for managing fatigue.
It's awful to have fatigue at a level that's debilitating for you but doesn't show up on any tests, you're far from alone on that score. Flowers

LadyRochfordsSpikedGusset · 02/11/2018 10:51

Did they test for Iron levels OP?

When I felt like that turned out I was extremely iron-deficient and anaemic due to heavy periods in general. I couldn't walk up the stairs in the end with the fatigue.

I'd go back to the docs for a second opinion.

Delatron · 02/11/2018 11:15

Not sure about the OP but I’ve tried and am on vitamin D, B vitamins, magnesium and iron supplements. I suspect as it’s a certain time of the month then it’s more hormone related. I think something to regulate hormones would be good but wouldn’t know where to start and would need to see an expert.

Delatron · 02/11/2018 11:16

Also OP do you feel better when your period starts and for about a week afterwards? I call it my ‘good time of the month’.

FingerLickingGod · 02/11/2018 11:16

I get this during ovulation as well. Lasts around 3-6 days each time and is awful. As soon as I finish ovulation I feel completely different.

nattingherz · 02/11/2018 11:19

I think I have about a week out of the month of feeling ok.
The last week I had lots of energy.
I get tired before ovulation too.
Then the first few days after my period I will be tired again (period is heavy )
Apparently all my iron /thyroid etc are in normal ranges.
I tried a multi but felt no different
I'm gonna try it again

aLilNonnyMouse · 02/11/2018 11:21

The day after ovulation I get utterly exhausted to the point I just crawl into bed and sleep for two to three days solid. I don't get up at all.

I'm not working at the moment due to long term illness and I honestly don't know how I'd cope if I had a job or other commitments to deal with during that time as I'm just totally non-functional.

It's shit but at least you are not alone OP Flowers

nattingherz · 02/11/2018 11:21

From yesterday I've had really bad backache (always before period ) and today I feel teary
How can pms start 10-12 days before period
It's depressing me.
Oh I get heart palps too and feel sick
Hot sweats etc etc

OP posts:
nattingherz · 02/11/2018 11:22

I'm sorry to hear that.
It's so awful
Last night I couldn't keep my eyes open at all.
This morning woke up exhausted.
Popped to corner shop this morning and felt hungover tired

Dragonlight · 02/11/2018 11:29

I'm like this too, for around 3/4 weeks now and it's horrid. Worst at ovulation and just before period. I get 'fluey' with it too. Low iron and Vit D are worth looking into definitely but the hormones issue I don't know how to fix.

Delatron · 02/11/2018 11:30

How old are you OP?

I’m wondering if it’s linked to peri menopause and fluctuations in hormones during the month. Oestrogen levels rise from day 1 of period then drop sharply after ovulation. I think for me this is causing the tiredness as maybe oestrogen levels are low anyway. No idea what the answer is. I eat well, I exercise, I’ve even had to change my job to a low stress job as I was too exhausted!

Delatron · 02/11/2018 11:32

Frustrating that many of us are suffering with this and it’s so debilitating yet there is no solution! (That I know of).

nattingherz · 02/11/2018 11:37

I'm 32.
So hopefully I'm not approaching menopause yet.
I've always had weird pre period symptoms over the years tho.
I get the "you've been to bed all night, how are you tired"
I wish I knew !

OP posts:
Delatron · 02/11/2018 11:39

Ah yes but still sounds hormonal.

I get that all the time ‘but why are you tired?!’ I wish I knew.

nattingherz · 02/11/2018 15:40

Ah the joys of being a woman

TheFifthKey · 02/11/2018 15:42

Vitamin D tablets cleared this up for me. I got Solgar ones off amazon - £12ish for two months worth. I still get tired but a normal amount, not a can’t keep my eyes open amount.

Misty9 · 02/11/2018 15:46

I've just posted a thread about tiredness then saw yours! I'm tired all the bloody time and have had bloods galore. What was your vit D level? The nhs uses

wallowinwater · 02/11/2018 16:00

Any other symptoms? Mood related ?

nattingherz · 02/11/2018 16:40

Angry so very angry
And today it's like a button has been pressed I can't stop crying and I mean hysterically crying

OP posts:
nattingherz · 02/11/2018 17:23

I have no idea what my levels are as they wouldn't tell me.
She said it would mean nothing to me so was pointless.
Where would I go for private tests ?

OP posts:
nattingherz · 02/11/2018 17:24

Misty - I'm actually on the waiting list for a laparoscopy as I think I have endo.

OP posts:
Misty9 · 02/11/2018 18:06

You have a right to get your blood results printed - ask at reception and don't take no for an answer! Thyroid UK website has some links to private blood testing. Thriva I think it is do a full thyroid antibodies and vit D B12 etc.
