The hottest days have become almost 1C hotter, warm spells have increased, while the coldest days are not as cold

We've suffered crap weather in UK for years. Maybe people will even fly abroad less because of this?

Yay global climate change! Absolutely no down sides i can see here!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 02/11/2018 08:31

FFS...

OpinionCat · 02/11/2018 08:31

Can't stand the heat unless I'm In a pool so I don't like this haha

customerservicenightmare · 02/11/2018 08:31

The global climate has been in a state of flux since long before humans came along though.

You can't be serious, surely?

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 02/11/2018 08:34

Okaaay..

CrookedMe · 02/11/2018 08:34

Maybe read the actual IPCC report then see if you think there's an upside?

customerservicenightmare · 02/11/2018 08:35

In the 70s, the so-called experts were all banging on about the next ice age. They do get things wrong!

OP posts:
BalloonDinosaur · 02/11/2018 08:36

Last post didn't work apparently.

But yes OP, who cares if the polar ice caps are melting and scientists think we have as little as 12 years to do something about it before we irreparably destroy the planet.

As long as it's a bit warmer in the summer it's all worth it, eh?

customerservicenightmare · 02/11/2018 08:38

www.skepticalscience.com/ice-age-predictions-in-1970s.htm

Ice age predicted in the 70s

"[M]any publications now claiming the world is on the brink of a global warming disaster said the same about an impending ice age – just 30 years ago. Several major ones, including The New York Times, Time magazine and Newsweek, have reported on three or even four different climate shifts since 1895."

We haven’t ‘suffered crap weather’ that’s what our fucking climate was meant to be. And it was still relatively mild at its worse.

customerservicenightmare · 02/11/2018 08:48

But people think it's crap hence all the sun holidays and air miles people rack up.

OP posts:
Feefeetrixabelle · 02/11/2018 08:50

They will still think it’s crap even after this summer- people go on holiday to experience something new.

SEsofty · 02/11/2018 08:52

Ok I’ll bite

Yep actually it’s possible that for our small island there may be some climate upsides

However the consequences for the vast bulk of the globe will be horrific and make much of the world uninhabitable.

Therefore the pressure on resources and space as the increasing population try and squeeze onto smaller and smaller land will be unsustainable.

customerservicenightmare · 02/11/2018 08:53

Get your point feefee but I guess unless someone does everything 100% to minimise their carbon footprint, they can't complain about global warming.

Two planets meet. The first one asks: "How are you?"
"Not so well", the second answered "I've got the Homo Sapiens."
"Don't worry," the other replied, "I had the same. That won't last long."

explodingkitten · 02/11/2018 08:56

Yeah, 1/3 of the Netherlands is already below sea level. Let's melt more ice caps to see if we can drown Amsterdam. Or let them pay more money for higher dikes. Not your problem since you have a better summer.

nornironrock · 02/11/2018 08:56

The facts are that the earth has many fluctuations in climate through history, and currently the earth sits below the long-term average for temperature. The issue is that human activity is accelerating the temperature increase at a rate at which the planet is struggling to keep up.

Weather and climate are not the same thing. For anyone living close to sea level, or in marginal farming areas, this is going to be a very big deal. "Nice weather" for the summer by comparison is neither here nor there.

Smeller89 · 02/11/2018 08:58

The following is from the guardian article on the same - food shortages and increased prices are definitely something not to like (although maybe you don't care as long as you get a bit more sun):

"this year has brought such severe droughts that many farmers have had poor harvests. Many have already had to feed their winter food stocks to their animals and face increased costs as a result. In August the government was forced to relax rules on how much groundwater farmers were allowed to use after agriculture bodies warned continued dry weather could lead to food shortages and increased prices."

marathonnotsnickerswasbetter · 02/11/2018 09:00

Is there anything we can do? Cancelling commercial Christmasses would be a start, like that's ever going to happen!

reallybadidea · 02/11/2018 09:01

Even if you don't believe that humans are the cause of global warming, it is clear that the planet is getting hotter and that this is having a terrible impact in some of the poorest countries in the world. So to say that it's a good thing that our weather is getting better, when it's causing terrible hardship to others, is pretty fatuous.

teelhing · 02/11/2018 09:05

This is just bad news all round. Why are some people obsessed with the sodding heat?

CalmDownDearest · 02/11/2018 09:06

Is that you Donald?

customerservicenightmare · 02/11/2018 09:09

I don't see the point in worrying about something we can't change. Pointless waste of energy. I will, however, be glad to help in any way I can if there are causes I can donate to.
