To think that people shopping in Aldi shouldn’t insist on packing bags at checkout

Shell4429 · 01/11/2018 23:04

Just, this. I was shopping tonight and two customers in front of me did this and I was really annoyed. While waiting I thought that Aldi should charge a fee for people who do this. It’s not fair on customers who do it the correct way. A surcharge would work, like it did with carrier bags. If everyone insisted on doing this surely it would drive prices up.

Seriously? Charge a fee? Bugger me dead - don't advertise your services as a business consultant ffs.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 01/11/2018 23:07

I always pack my bag at the checkout if I go there.

Di11y · 01/11/2018 23:08

I pack at the till but I have a system and keep up with them throwing everything at me. though I do think they've slowed down in the last year or so. I heard they stopped being timed on how fast they go.

Kittykat93 · 01/11/2018 23:08

I pack my bag at the checkout. I'm very quick about it and it takes just as much time as if I were to put it straight in the trolley.

If they introduced a fine, I would no longer go there!

I can pack just as fast as they scan, it's all down to organising the belt and three big bags in the trolley to throw the food into. We're not all slow pokes.

AlexaShutUp · 01/11/2018 23:09

At our Aldi, they just politely ask people to pack in the packing area. Most people are happy enough to comply. If the odd one insists on packing at the cashier, I don't think it's that big a deal, is it?

Cachailleacha · 01/11/2018 23:10

If you use a basket the you don't have a choice.

Donthugmeimscared · 01/11/2018 23:10

Where else would you pack it?

BackInRed · 01/11/2018 23:11

It's annoying when people do that unless it's maybe less than 5 items.

Donthugmeimscared · 01/11/2018 23:11

Just to note we don't have an aldi near me so never been to one but thought the were like lidl

greendale17 · 01/11/2018 23:12

^The few times I have been in there I have done this. I am super quick at packing- the cashier bloke couldn’t keep up

PickAChew · 01/11/2018 23:12

Don't be daft.

I pack if it's feasible ie only one bag full. Aldi has a better set up for you to make your choice than lidl, at any rate.

More than one bag and I'm glad to take it to the bench so I don't end up walking lopsided.

Cachailleacha · 01/11/2018 23:12

At the packing bench

Sinead100 · 01/11/2018 23:13

I unload my trolley onto the conveyor in the order i want it to go into my bags. Im often quicker than the cashier... so no!

PipGoesPop · 01/11/2018 23:13

Eh? What difference does it make whether you put it into a bag or back into your trolley? What's so different about Aldi? Is time and space different there to Sainsburys/Tesco/Waitrose.

Why do some people (annoyingly) refer to it as 'The Aldi'?

Confuzzlediddled · 01/11/2018 23:13

I use a basket, as I'm in a mobility scooter, so if i don't pack at the checkout how am I supposed to lift everything? Should I do some sort of juggling act to the packing shelf?

BanginChoons · 01/11/2018 23:14

I hate the way they fling everything through like their lives depend on it. It wouldn't hurt them to slow down a little. Then it wouldn't matter where you bag your shopping.

JustAskingForAFriend · 01/11/2018 23:15

I pack as fast as it's thrown at me. I have my large bags open in the trolley and put it it. So it's no diff to putting it directly in trolley.?

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 01/11/2018 23:17

My local Aldi doesn't have a packing bench so it has to be done at the checkouts, it doesn't have trolleys either so it can't all be thrown into a trolley.

Donthugmeimscared · 01/11/2018 23:18

@Cachailleacha

Is that what that thing by the windows for that just seems to be a place for kids to sit on at the Lidl near me? I've never seen a single person use it they all just pack at the till.

Nearlyoldenoughtowearpurple · 01/11/2018 23:21

I always pack at the till, but I am organised and super quick. Often I am complimented by the till staff on how quickly I clear the belt. I get insanely pleased by that 😂. I have my card ready to pay and am probably quicker than a trolley loading gaffer.

SoupDragon · 01/11/2018 23:25

Yes. It's quicker at the checkouts as you aren't meant to leisurely pack your stuff whilst chatting about the weather.

GWhy do some people (annoyingly) refer to it as 'The Aldi'?*

I've never heard this. It must be a local quirk.

Shell4429 · 01/11/2018 23:26

The model Aldi use is speed during checkout. I fling everything in my trolley as quickly as possible and pack on the benches. I am happy to do this until someone flaunts the procedure and holds everyone up. People can be so entitled and it’s annoying.

I don't go to Aldi without DS, who prides himself in his speedy packing. I don't get to Waitrose that often, but when I do I find it infuriatingly slow.

PickAChew · 01/11/2018 23:29

I think The Aldi is next door too The ASDA's.
