To think that people shopping in Aldi shouldn’t insist on packing bags at checkout

Just, this. I was shopping tonight and two customers in front of me did this and I was really annoyed. While waiting I thought that Aldi should charge a fee for people who do this. It’s not fair on customers who do it the correct way. A surcharge would work, like it did with carrier bags. If everyone insisted on doing this surely it would drive prices up.

Ours doesn't have a packing bench so you have to do it at the till.

bawbles · 01/11/2018 23:30

I’m a shameless entitled flaunter.

KarmaStar · 01/11/2018 23:30

For goodness sake op!

StylishMummy · 01/11/2018 23:30

I pack at the till and make no bones about it, I'm always ready to pay as they finish scanning

MrsAJ27 · 01/11/2018 23:31

Get a life and stop complaining about such bullshit!

Scarymovie73 · 01/11/2018 23:31

It’s Like throwing down the gauntlet, I will not be outdone by the cashiers. I let others who have a few items ahead of me then it’s houmous, sausages , wine etc onto the belt. I hate being rushed but I will try match them item for item. I just want to bag, boot and go. It’s a faff yo stop and pack after. So I’ll never 😁

MaryJenson · 01/11/2018 23:31

I only go to stores where I can scan and pack as I shop.

vodkaredbullgirl · 01/11/2018 23:34

I used to pack at the till, now i just chuck it all back in the trolley and pack at the car.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 01/11/2018 23:34

Some Aldi's expect you to pack at the till. 2 of my local ones certainly do.

TheHobbitMum · 01/11/2018 23:35

Just to reply to the previous poster, we are still timed when serving on the tills Wink

We do slow down for those who aren't capable of packing quickly such as elderly or disabled though.

Longdistance · 01/11/2018 23:35

I chuck mine back in the trolley faster than the checkout person.

I then open my boot and pack my bags.

My shopping is stacked as:

Heavy stuff = bottles, jars, crayons, boxes

Vegetables

Fridge freezer stuff

Soft stuff = bread, eggs, crisps etc.

So these go in my car in that order.

incywincybitofa · 01/11/2018 23:36

Is this a new thing, I have shopped in Aldi, one that has trollies and there is no sign of a packing bench everyone seems to pack at the tills.

Sparklingbrook · 01/11/2018 23:36

There's always massive queues and chaos at The Aldis by me so I avoid altogether.

I only use supermarkets where you can scan as you go along and no conveyor is involved at all. You put it into the bags in the trolley once and take them out when you get to the car.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 01/11/2018 23:36

Why is there a rogue apostrophe in my post? Idiot tablet Hmm

boble1 · 01/11/2018 23:38

Oooo, I just love having a race with the cashier.

I get my kids ready with open bags.

I went yesterday and the cashier was showing her friend how to do "mouth exercises" to prevent a sagging jowl Hmm

Took bloody forever and then to top it off, she ordered fireworks. Whilst waiting for them, the cashier told her to stand in the corner and practice her mouth excerises!

sleepylittlebunnies · 01/11/2018 23:38

We always chuck it all in the trolley then pack into bags/boxes in the car. Only time I’ve packed at the checkout is with a basket.

Scarymovie73 · 01/11/2018 23:39

Totally understand that those on the tills are timed and it’s about keeping costs down but you’ll never beat me !!!! I do need a hobby on reflection.

AtSea1979 · 01/11/2018 23:40

So let me get this right. You’re supposed to put it all back in your trolley and then back out on your trolley on to a bench then in to your bags in the trolley Confused how does that save anyone time?

IlikebigbotsandIcannotlie · 01/11/2018 23:44

@atsea79

It saves the store time.

LaLoba · 01/11/2018 23:45

YABU. I don’t pack at the checkout at Aldi, but am fairly sure if I told them I have MS and therefore fatigue and coordination problems they would be accepting. The reason I don’t say it and give myself the extra work of packing afterwards is because I know some git like you would be tutting behind me. I bet you scowl at pensioners fumbling with their money too.

DarklyDreamingDexter · 01/11/2018 23:53

There's no way I'm sticking my stuff back in the trolley only to repack it again 6ft away. It takes no longer to put it in a bag inside the trolley than it does to put it into a 'bare' trolley! Aldi is being U in expecting people to do that. No one does it around where I live and Aldi staff don't ask or comment. If they did try to insist on it, I'd leave my shopping on the conveyor belt and walk out as a protest!

CeCeLaine66 · 01/11/2018 23:54

atsea no you chuck in your trolley move over to the benches pack bags on benches then lift them back down into trolley.

steff13 · 01/11/2018 23:55

At my Aldi the cashier takes the stuff off the belt, scan it, and put it in an empty cart at the end of the aisle. Then you take it to the bench to pack it. Weird how they do things differently.

wishywashy6 · 01/11/2018 23:55

I can pack just as fast as they scan, it's all down to organising the belt and three big bags in the trolley to throw the food into. We're not all slow pokes.

Just this. I always keep up with the speed they throw stuff at me. I don't have time to load and unload a trolley just to repack it into bags 🤷🏼‍♀️
