To be freaked out by friends weird behaviour?

Have name changed as circumstances quite specific!

Basically I went out for a drink with a group of friends. I said I needed toilet and one of the friends said they did too so came with me. I had a wee, washed my hands and went to dry them. She did all this at approx same time. I finished drying my hands and looked at her, she just smiled and carried on drying her hands. I thought fair enough and told her I’d see her back in bar.

10 minutes later we notice she still hasn’t come back and we’re talking about moving on. I go to see if she’s still in and she’s still stood in same position drying her hands!! I tell her we’re thinking of moving on soon so she says “ok” and still stands there with her hands under dryer.

I go back to group and tell them friend A is still drying hands. We have a bit of a laugh over it and then talk about something else. 10 minutes later we’re all done with drinks and ready to move on. Friend B says she needs toilet so will tell friend A to get a move on at same time. Bare in mind she’s been in there over 20 minutes now drying her hands.

10 minutes later neither friend have returned. Getting a bit impatient now I go in to tell them we’re moving on to see them BOTH stood there drying their hands!!! Not talking or anything, just stood in silence with their hands under the dryer! We left without them in the end. Have spoken since and they’re both pissed off that we left without them.
Other friends thought it was beyond weird at the time but I can’t get over it! It was so bloody weird.

Am I over reacting??

Drugs OP.

SnuggyBuggy · 01/11/2018 18:06

Maybe it's a new drug that is absorbed through the skin but needs some heat to work

Doggorun · 01/11/2018 18:08

My first thought was drugs. They're in on it together, i.e "meet me in the toilets in 10min" which is why she hung on in there after you left. Said friend then joined her and got the smack out.

Either that, or they're talking about you lot hence going quiet when you walked in Wink

bobstersmum · 01/11/2018 18:09

She's gonna need some handcream today that's for sure.

7salmonswimming · 01/11/2018 18:18

Was there a mirror above the dryers to see the entrance to bathroom in? Or could she have easily seen the door from the dryer anyway?

If so, Friend A and Friend B had pre-agreed to meet in the loos for a bitch-session. Could have been about you (wait till OP goes to the loo, you go with her and I’ll come in afterwards).

Sitranced · 02/11/2018 07:36

Or she had upset stomach and went back into the stall after OP left so by the time OP came back in she was washing her hands again.

ushuaiamonamour · 02/11/2018 08:43

That dryer's name? Alfed Einstein. OP, give your friends %20$$ and a round of applause and post it on facebook.

Kittykat93 · 02/11/2018 09:04

I would honestly have just asked what the hell was going on. I reckon it was a prank, just not a very funny one. Doing a line of coke wouldn't make you stand in the mirror drying your hands for 40 minutes.

thenightsky · 02/11/2018 09:26

OP did ask what was going on. Her friend A just smiled and friend B denied the length of time.

sofato5miles · 02/11/2018 09:30

Drugs

SaucyJack · 02/11/2018 09:34

Halloween prank?

It doesn’t take 40 mins to rack up and snort a line.

Nothisispatrick · 02/11/2018 09:37

Doesn’t sound like coke behaviour at all. I would guess ecstasy and drying hands felt orgasmically amazing!

VioletCharlotte · 02/11/2018 09:43

I think it just have been some sort of wind up! How very odd

CS12345 · 02/11/2018 09:49

This is totally made up by someone with nothing better to do than post fictitious stories on Mumsnet.

SaucyJack · 02/11/2018 09:49

Or maybe there was a good view into the men’s of the urinal?

Kittykat93 · 02/11/2018 10:45

Yeah on reflection I don't think this is real.

GoatFinger · 14/11/2018 03:45

Did this really happen? Can you be sure it occurred?

1forAll74 · 14/11/2018 04:31

Oh, I don't really know what young people get up to in pub toilets these days. My first thought on this, was maybe drugs, but too easy to say that. And if they were your friends, you would surely know that they sometimes dabbled a bit. Maybe both of the girls had kind of arranged to be together at some point, as in something passionate, and if they heard someone come in the loos, they quickly kicked the hand dryer into action to conceal things.

Rachelover40 · 14/11/2018 05:50

She might have had to go back into cubicle and do more poo. People with IBS or even occasional diarrhoea often do that. Poor woman. She doesn't want to talk about it because it's awful. Just a thought but has happened to me.

FruminousBandersnatch · 14/11/2018 08:14

Mushrooms. Definitely. Or LSD. Not coke - they would be the life and soul of the party, not staring mutely into a hand dryer.
