Lighthearted. This is our second Halloween in our house and last year I guessed I would need maybe 30 bags for Halloween so I made 50 just in case. We were out in about an hour. DH put a few more together on the night. This year I did about 110 and we're out again! Where will it end! How many will I do next year? Should I start making them now?!?

I do little cone shaped bags, this year they had some smarties, tiny mars bar, tiny haribo and some gummy eyes and teeth. They don't cost a lot really and it means everyone gets the same. I quite like them.

@greeenghostie maybe because different people are posting on different threads? This is the only Halloween thread I have been on this evening.

It isn't that baffling that different people on mumsnet have different opinions or experiences?

HariboLecter · 31/10/2018 19:38

Those not getting trick or treaters, do you have a pumpkin out?
My mum has bought sweets, but hasn't got a pumpkin, so no one is knocking. I reckon she does it on purpose so she can eat them all Halloween Grin

LBOCS2 · 31/10/2018 19:40

We have done pumpkins in the past, although this year we don't have one. Made absolutely no difference. It's so weird!

GemmeFatale · 31/10/2018 19:43

Our local Facebook page has a CF asking which is the best street to go and hit up for sweets.

Probably I’ll be deleted as I’ve suggested she go to the houses of people she knows rather then letting her kids harass strangers.

Butterymuffin · 31/10/2018 19:43

There is advice around that says only use wrapped sweets as then kids / parents know they haven't been tampered with. I packs of Haribo, fun size chocolate bars etc.

Caprisunorange · 31/10/2018 19:43

They’re totally telling their friends about the cool cones at your house

Notcontent · 31/10/2018 19:47

I ran out much quicker than ever before. Had huge groups coming all at once. I think some “nice” streets get targeted!

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 31/10/2018 19:47

@Butterymuffin sorry didn't make it clear, everything is wrapped individually and then in a cone bag.

OP posts:
smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 31/10/2018 19:48

@Caprisunorange haha maybe they are! I certainly like them.

I've been to the shops twice. The next lot are getting roll ups

Butterymuffin · 31/10/2018 19:50

Sorry OP! Should have guessed given your dedication to top quality treat providing Star

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 31/10/2018 19:54

I know it would be cheaper to just put sweets in a bowl but I do like the wee bags. Think I will maybe need to hit up the cash and carry next year!

I live in a road on a popular trick or treating estate. People drive in from other areas. It is annoying. However I don't decorate house so I have had none personally.

Rightsornot · 31/10/2018 19:58

Drilled into the kids round here not to knock if no pumpkin. A lady came out and asked why nobody was knocking on her door and admiring kids outfits. I had to tell her they wouldn’t knock without a pumpkin, she had no idea! Thought she could just leave the outside light on

Bimgy85 · 31/10/2018 19:59

Jesus, we only had one caller and I live in a city in a neighborhood where there is thousands of houses!

Bimgy85 · 31/10/2018 19:59

I guess that's nothing to do with my lights being off and curtains closed

PipGoesPop · 31/10/2018 20:03

Stop making bags! For the love of sweet baby jesus stop!

Bimgy85 · 31/10/2018 20:04

What's wrong with making bags? My mum and dad still do it 30 years later! Buy lots of bags of crisps, sweets and chocolate, bag them up into sandwich bags and hand them all out to trick or treaters

Racecardriver · 31/10/2018 20:07

We haven’t had any trick or treaters at all. Bliss.

puzzledlady · 31/10/2018 20:08

I don’t know about bags but we’ve had about 100 kids out tonight
-I’ve baked about 100 cookies and had about 2kg of haribo sweets, they’re all gone.

DanglyBangly · 31/10/2018 20:09

Word is out that you give out bags, that’s why you’re getting so many.

You’re making more work for yourself but if you enjoy it, then why not?!

KnittingOnEmpty · 31/10/2018 20:23

The whole concept is ridiculous. Kids dressing up, well ok as long as they're under 12, say, but the expectations of buckets of sweets is obscene. As for making up cutesy little cones and bags, haven't you got anything else to be getting on with? !

MoaningSickness · 31/10/2018 20:35

I've just moved from a 'mostly one-bedroom/young professional' type area to a 'big family-houses/near the good schools' type area. I knew we would get more trick or treaters, but we weren't quite prepared for how many! Out of sweets now so pumpkins in and porch light off, and hopefully won't have to turn anyone away.

Enigmam · 31/10/2018 20:38

It's been quiet this year. I took DD out around 5:30pm as didn't want to leave it too late. We've still got plenty of sweets left, we also give out flashing wands and rings for little ones who can't have sweets.
